Editorial Reviews
Widely considered to be one of the best albums of the 90s, 1992's Automatic For the People followed R.E.M.'s breakthrough album, Out of Time, and did not disappoint. Beloved by critics, the band's eighth studio album topped charts worldwide, and was certified 4x platinum in the US. Features iconic hit singles "Nightswimming," "Man on the Moon" and 90's anthem, "Everybody Hurts." W/Download Card.

This was my initial review- Virtually unlistenable. Not even sure why I gave it two stars except it is such a great album. I bought this as a birthday present for myself as it was released on my birthday. I was excited to see it here today. It was with great anticipation that I dropped the needle. What followed was disappointing at best. The surface noise was the loudest I have ever heard from a new album. I cleaned it with a carbon brush to no avail. What I did hear wasnt impressive in respect to the sound of the recording. Bright and 2 dimensional. I have a very nice tube based system that shows the recording quality and this one wasnt impressive. The extreme amount of clicks makes this record not listenable. Perusing some other discussion groups it seems this is not an isolated incident.
The album, the atmos mix, the book everything as expected from one of the best albums of the 90's
Not really feeling it as much as I'd hoped, but it's still a good album and does sound good.
I would not have purchase it outside of the advertised "Dolby Atmos" sound due to current tech (streaming).
I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone if they are purchasing it for dynamic / spherical / dimensional sound (like in a movie with good surround, including ceiling.) It does not move around the room spherically or even surround as much as I'd expect. I wanted to feel like I was in the studio or on stage. Sadly, I did not.
