Product Description

This album spent 97 weeks on the charts on its way to becoming the best-selling live recording of all time! Remastered from the original source tapes and compiled on one CD. This is '70s rock!

Amazon.com

If you were challenged to name five rock albums that epitomized the '70s, Frampton Comes Alive! should probably top the list. Former Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton recorded a few perfectly fine albums with his band Frampton's Camel, but it wasn't until some of those tracks were recorded at a live performance in San Francisco and released as Frampton Comes Alive! that he became a household name. Buoyant pop, sentimental ballads, arena rock--this album has it all. The LP package set sales records and contained three bona fide radio hits ("Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do?"), one of which, shockingly enough, was over 14 minutes long. No wonder that, to many, the two-and-a-half-minute songs of the Damned and the Sex Pistols felt like a breath of fresh air a year or two later. --Lorry Fleming

CD is great, case was cracked
I bought this for my mom, who has been a HUGE Peter Frampton fan since her teens. The CD is great, but the case came cracked which was a total bummer and why I gave 4 stars. Still very happy with my purchase.

Good quality reissue of this classic album. My old copy from the 70s was really worn out.

albums to come out of the '70's. Saw him on the 35th anniversary tour of this album at the old Kiel (now Peabody) Opera House in St. Louis. Wow, what a show that is also available on DVD as FCA 35 Tour: An Evening with Peter Frampton at the Beacon Theater where he does this whole album start to finish in its entirety then another hour or so of other material without taking a break. Had this on vinyl and now I have this timeless classic on compact disc. And you should too!

Not being a huge fan of " Live Album's" I must say along with Johnny Cash Live from Folsom Prison, Thin Lizzy Live & despite the controversy Humble Pie live from the Fillmore are all album's worth getting for serious collectors building Rock & Roll / Music Libraries! Frampton Comes Alive!" may be the greatest live album ever recorded. It is basically Peter Frampton performing his " Greatest Hits" Live. 1976 was the year of Frampton with out a doubt! Peter Frampton wanted to be acknowledged for his guitar skill's back when he was a teen playing in the band " The Herd". He was a shy young man who after becoming " The Face of 68" was pushed to singing as the front man for " The Herd". Both Peter Frampton & front man for the hugely successful " Small Faces" Steve Marriott felt stifled & that the bands they were in had nothing left to offer them. So when Peter Frampton began building his new band he called Steve Marriott & asked him to join! Peter had worked with " The Small Faces" & Steve wanted him in the band, Peter had already gotten a great drummer from a Small Faces cover band named Jerry Shirley...tired of the restraints Marriott had felt with " The Small Faces" he eagerly agreed to join Peter Frampton's new band & after Peter secured the Bassist every band of those days wanted Greg Ridley from " Spooky Tooth" Peter Frampton's new line up looked to be one hell of a band & " Humble Pie" was born! Needless to say " Humble Pie " was a huge success, but Peter Frampton was a very talented & still very young man who was not satisfied where " Humble Pie's" music was headed & decided to give a solo career a try. After a few mediocre album's Frampton realized it was on stage live that he really shined & in 1976 " Frampton comes Alive!" was recorded & released to faithful followers & earning Peter thousand's of new fans! 1976 was truly the year of Peter Frampton! This may be the first & only double album to go triple platinum! " Frampton Comes Alive!" is a must have album in any serious rock & roll library...not only for its historical value but also for its high energy performance & excellent guitar skills of the quite shy young man that went to school with David Bowie. Peter Frampton wanted recognition for his guitar playing skill & when you hear him playing with " The Herd" & " Humble Pie" in 1976 when this album permeated the airwaves there was no doubting Peter Frampton's guitar skill's & he was rightly considered one of Rock & Roll's greatest guitarist! Now Peter Frampton is not only recognized as a great guitarist , but also a great singer/ song writer as well as a Rock & Roll Icon of the 60's & 70's & a very important part of Rock & Roll history!

Record was dirty and wouldn't play well at first. I gave it a deep cleaning and it played fine. Brought back many memories.

It used to be I didn't like remastered works. It seems the process is better on this recording. It sounds crisp and clear without sounding shrill. I have the album and wanted to try a digital version to see if I would enjoy it. I am playing this on nice equipment so, I think I can say this sounds faithful to the original only clearer. It is very enjoyable to hear all the detail crisp and clear. It has all the impact and feel of the vinyl version and it's even better than I expected. This kind of remastered work is what's driving me to explore my old favorites in digital format. I highly recommend this CD. The previously unreleased tracks are very well selected to fit into the vibe of this live album. I was wondering if they would change the feel. I am happy to say, they augment it in a very good way and I am very happy to have this in my collection.

In my opinion, Frampton Comes Alive! is the 2nd best live album ever released next to the Allman Brothers Band's At Fillmore East. This was released during the great live album era of the mid to late 1970's. Live albums would bring excellent acts such as Bob Seger, Little Feat, and Cheap Trick to the next level and this live album made Peter Frampton a superstar. And this still holds up. You know why? Peter was (still is) a great songwriter and more importantly, he was one with his audience. He wrote great songs but the passion didn't show on the studio recordings. Here the passion shines through. Peter was a craftsman and a showman. His live shows even today (and I've seen him recently) still feel bigger than just a concert.

What is worth noting and not often acknowledged is that Peter had an excellent band that accompanied him perfectly. Bob Mayo's piano work on "Something's Happening" and "Lines on My Face", Stanley Sheldon's (still playing with Peter) funky basslines on "Doobie Wah", John Siomos' drumming throughout, especially on "(I'll Give You) Money" and "Jumping Jack Flash", often shared the spotlight and Peter was no dummy. He knew he had a top notch band and he made sure they were heard. As for the songs, all of them are great. No doubt about it. The singles released were the perfect choices. "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Show Me the Way", and "Do You Feel Like We Do" had the best hooks and the choruses that you would remember from the get go. You still hear them all the time. There's a little here for everyone whether it's the acoustic love songs ("All I Want to Be (Is By Your Side)", "Winds of Change"), the driving rockers "(I'll Give You) Money", "Shine On") or the passionate epics ("Lines on My Face", "I Wanna Go to the Sun"). "Something's Happening" was a fantastic opener that brought you in while "It's a Plain Shame" is a scorching rocker with a great lyric. And last but not least: Peter can play guitar as well as he can sing and write. He remains a fantastic and underrated player who has a very distinctive tone with or without his talk box. Frampton Comes Alive! remains a classic live album. Want to know why the classic rockers from the '70s still bring the crowds all these years later? Look no further.

Full disclosure: I bought this in 1990 on cassette as a 19 year old restless music lover. Listened to it regularly until the wear and tear kicked in and bought the CD last year. I love it as much now as I did then. Enjoy.
