But with the benefit of repeated listens, I slowly began to recognize the genius of this album. You see, The King of Limbs is less a collection of songs and more a summation of mood. Not unlike Miles Davis’ early ‘70s work (Big Fun for the win!) tracks like “Bloom” and “Little by Little” seep into one another not unlike movements in a larger piece.
In fact, the sonic palette remains defiantly monochromatic until the album reaches its de-facto climax, “Codex,” a haunting ballad that ranks among the band’s best. From there, the album closes with the incredibly effective one-two punch of “Give Up the Ghost” and “Separator.”
One of the many criticisms waged against The King of Limbs is the album’s thirty-seven minute run-time. And while ‘epic’ or ‘grand’ are hardly a fitting description of the band’s most concise work to date, I routinely revisit The King of Limbs as it’s the only Radiohead release that fits squarely within my morning commute.
It's far from their best work, but even a 'middle of the road' album is pretty fantastic when it comes from a band like Radiohead.
What’s the mass attraction over decades to this wiry lead singer, his quirky lyrics and these skilled, avant-garde musicians? It’s solo Thom Yorke gyrating every part of his body to the complex rhythms in the black and white video to the King of Limbs track “Lotus Flower” – while singing, “I will shape myself into your pocket, invisible, do what you want, do what you want.” (The entire album King of Limbs is on YouTube live on “From the Basement.”)
It’s a crazy love song, “Weird Fishes,” from the 2008 album In Rainbows, with Thom singing, “In the deepest ocean, the bottom of the sea; your eyes, they turn me. Why should I stay? I’d be crazy not to follow, follow where you lead. Your eyes, they turn me.” It’s the poignant vocals to “Reckoner,” with Thom singing, “You can’t take it with you, dancing for your pleasure . . . Because we all separate like ripples on a blank shore, in rainbows.” (In Rainbows is on YouTube in full, live on “From the Basement.” It opens with “Weird Fishes” and closes with “Reckoner” and “Videotape.”)
It’s the rock anthem “There There” in 2003’s Hail to the Thief (“There’s always a siren singing you to shipwreck”), and it’s the haunting melody to “Sail to the Moon” (“In the flood, you’ll build an ark, and sail us to the moon, sail us to the moon.”)
You can find full video concerts from Glastonbury 2003 and 2017, and the Lollapalooza Chicago show from 2016. See for yourself just what the attraction is to Thom Yorke and Radiohead.
I own two of each album by Radiohead. One is the "original" packaging - now scratched and used the most. The second is either the "collector's" or "limited" edition, etc. With The King of Limbs, i thought that i would try the import "Blu Spec CD" from Japan and see if this is any better than the normal cd. The artwork is awesome and it appears that they provide the lyrics for each song, but in Japanese. But the artwork is cool. The CD itself looks the same. So far, I have not been able to hear any difference between the original and the Blu Spec CD - not that it was advertised as being better sounding. I will be comparing my new Blu Spec CD with the original to see if maybe there is a little difference. So I'll update this review if i find that there is a difference. It is not a remaster. So don't buy this Blu Spec CD if you are looking for better sound. But definitely buy this album! It is for sure Radiohead's best album so far!

Vinile di ottima qualità, silenzioso e molto ben inciso, al costo pagato di 21 euro è un affare stellare, visti i prezzi dei vinili odierni.
Suggerito senza riserve a chi apprezza i Radiohead!
