Editorial Reviews

Japanese Breakfast's 'Soft Sounds From Another Planet' is less of a concept album about space exploration so much as it is a mood board come to life. Over the course of 12 tracks, Michelle Zauner explores a sonic landscape of her own design, one that's big enough to contain her influences. There are songs on this album that recall the pathos of Roy Orbison's ballads, while others could soundtrack a cinematic drive down one of Blade Runner's endless skyways. Zauner's voice is capacious; one moment she's serenading the past, the next she's robotically narrating a love story over sleek monochrome, her lyrics more pointed and personal than ever before. While 'Psychopomp' was a genre-spanning introduction to Japanese Breakfast, this visionary sophomore album launches the project to new heights.

I like to think I keep up with good music but Japanese Breakfast somehow flew under the radar with me until I started playing Sable on my Xbox (which she scored, and it was fantastic), then caught her on SNL and was sold. Great album

It puts the track "Jimmy Fallon Big" into perspective. Well deserved!

I heard the song Road Head on Sirius and it really intrigued me into hearing more. Her sound is unlike any other and I heard that she is compared to Lana Del Ray and I have to disagree. I love Lana but their sounds are different. My favorite song off this cd is Boyish and I think it’s just stunning. I am glad I added Japanese Breakfast to my pretty vast cd collection

Wasn't sure what to expect from this album, but was pleasantly surprised. Also, I appreciate that there is no wasteful jewel case.

Excellent Album! In fact, her best!!! I have Michelle Zauner's album while with Little Big League,"These Are Good People" and previous Japanese Braekfast "Psychopomp". I am a fan of all! But this is amazing! Love the lyrics, love the guitar and her vocal qualities!

What an excellant album. Spotify suggested them to me. Not 180 gram but in my opinion a great recording. Got here day after I ordered it. A pleasant surprise as I was home listening to vinyl. I cannot wait to see them live.

Found these on You Tube and firmly believe one should support bands with one's wallet not just rip the music for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music is great, but the vinyl is meh.

Love the album itself and I think the songs are fabulous, but the quality of the vinyl release leaves a lot to be desired. There's a significant amount of noise and hiss, especially as you progress towards the centre of the record. I initially thought it was dust or static, but it still remains after multiple attempts to clean the record with a brush. There are also reports online of other people encountering this as well with different copies of the vinyl.
