5.0 out of 5 stars exploration spatiale dantesque
Reviewed in France on June 30, 2019
Edition: GameVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantascienza, esplorazione e... Minecraft.
Reviewed in Italy on November 13, 2017
Edition: GameVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Un juego para un tipo de jugador muy específico
Reviewed in Spain on June 1, 2017
Edition: GameVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars So much a better than early reviews suggested, keeps growing & with PSVR, YOU are flying in space.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 10, 2017

I keep having to re-write this review as I play the game. If you want space flight true physics + a space shootem-up, AND ONLY THAT, then go to Elite Dangerous.

If you want a game where you charge around shooting every thing in sight then find something else.

If you want a game you can finish in 15 hours then find something else.

If you want landing on planets, repairing stuff by getting stuff yourself, feeding dinosaurs, getting eaten by dinosaurs, seeing exotic plant/creatures (huge yellow butterflies today), trading for other stuff to build stuff, have conversations with aliens (a bit limited but necessary), land/takeoff, get shot at (not managed to hit anything myself as running is a good option (also works with killer dinosaurs), build bases (decide one planet is your home or if you get rich enough have as many holiday homes as you can afford anywhere in the galaxy), travel by Stargate (yeah really), figure out what you need before you need it (this involves "Oh cripes, I should have bought that Platinum back there, now I'm stuffed) or having to fix your own mess and generally live a life out there with all the consequences & rewards then this is your game.

Real life can be tedious and NMS is a lot less tedious but boy can you still mess up with wrong decisions. As you can play this game with no consequences (Creative) you can learn what you are trying to do without pain. Normal mode lets you die (quite often really) but you can usually retrieve what you lost. Then there are 2 harder levels the last of which is one mistake and you die and you stay dead.
Since the Atlas upgrade there are some decent story lines you can follow or you could just fly off in any direction and try to make your own way.
One great option is you can have 5 separate lives going at the same time. I use creative to figure out where I went wrong but it is a separate life with its own game time. These lives are not forks in the road you must start a new one each time.

This game is fun. You will need resolve to progress but there is just so much to try on route. If this is for a child then it is not gory even though occasionaly one creature will kill another.

What is most important about NMS is that the authors keep adding stuff that makes the gameplay better and potentially more complex so adding years to its playability.

Ask yourself 1 question. "What would I do if I found myself crash landed on an alien planet with lots of deadly things around (e.g. acid rain); there is no hope of rescue but the planet has all you need to repair your ship and leave.

Actually you need to ask yourself a 2nd question. Now what? Not withstanding fuel limitations you can just do what you want and be as wrong as you want as often as you want.

Returning to Elite Dangerous for a moment, if you really want to fly in space then it has supposedly true physics but if you have ever seen a tanker try and slow & turn then you will see ED is not a realistic as it says.

Hopefully I have given a flavour of this game. Every game gets boring eventually but this one should take a whole lotta time to get that far.

AND NOW FOR PSVR.

In the space flying bit of the game it is wonderful. You have virtual hands that operate a virtual throttle and joystick (assuming you are using Moves not Dualshock). You can look anywhere your neck will twist to and then you can have a swivel chair like me. Woo Hoo!

On a planet it is a bit harder and where I got my first travel sickness. But your real world hand points your virtual world weapon when under attack (or for farming/mining etc). Yes it is a bit blurrier than perfection but hey you are on another world and jumping off a mountain is, well, jumping off a mountain. If you look down you are obeying gravity and the ground comes to meet you and you will suffer damage, but you should survive.

The controls are intuitive to use but hard to learn. If you are starting with Moves it should be easier than unlearning Dualshock. You can play in either.

Wow! Really Wow! I have an 8 metre creature that I can look up and walk through its 8 legs. I have The Creepies that scale wise are fantastic ride. You can feed, milk & get eggs and their excrement is useful. Big (4 Metre Cats) and ravenous smaller creatures that hunt in packs.

And did I mention YOU can fly in space.

The graphics may not be as good as some much more limited games but really this is the bees knees until PSVR2 & PS5.
