I ordered all five of these remasters from Amazon in July 2011. I received the 2009 corrected versions of Movement, PCL and Technique. Brotherhood and Low-Life both are the older versions with the messy second disc. I am returning those two. People say you can tell the older pressings by two external signs:

1) The older pressings have the plastic "Collectors Edition" sleeve on the outside, and the newer pressings don't.
2) The newer pressings have a second book inside with details on all five remastered albums and the older ones don't.

This is actually a little bit misleading as the "Low-Life" I received did not have the plastic sleeve and did have the second booklet. So, I assumed it was the corrected version. But the second disc is obviously the flawed version with glaring glitches and pops throughout.

Perhaps Rhino is recycling all of the defective discs that have been returned to them, hoping less informed buyers won't notice. At any rate, be wary. They should have recalled the bad copies from retailers back in 2009.

I'm glad I was able to find an original CD and not a remake. I enjoy New Order so this was a great addition to my collection as I have this album on cassette.

This was an import cd...but not from 2008. This looks like the original cd release. Which...from what I have read...is actually a good thing. But shown wrong on the listing. None the less I repurchased this because I realized that I only owned this on cassette tape and wanted the digital version. A fantastic album.

How could an album with no singles, no pictures of the band members or even mention of their names, and such a non-flashy album presentation be recognized as one of the seminal albums of the 1980's?? Well, this is one case where musical merit wins out over style. Being born a year after this release, I wouldn't know, but imagine being a fan of Joy Division and hearing about Ian Curtis' death. Then you find out about the remaining members forming New Order. You hear 'Movement' and it's got a lot of things you'd remembered from 'Closer' with a few added twists, such as more synthesizers. After a few singles (each getting increasingly more different), two years later comes 'Power Corruption & Lies', a very different sound than Joy Division and 'Movement'. It's kind of like that.
This is not to say that the album is without its flaws. A lot of the music is much more minimalist than later New Order releases, which to some people is either a curse or a blessing. The music is also somewhat positioned in-between their more dancy and their more minimalist sound, which makes this seem more like a transitional album. 'Age Of Consent' is really a sign of things to come for New Order. 'Leave Me Alone' and 'Your Silent Face' stand out as the most musically striking compositions (along with 'Age Of Consent') and make this album what it is. 'The Village' is definitely an escape from the gloom of their previous incarnation. While not the best New Order album (in this reviewers opinion) it is definitely a good album by any standards.
*** It is my guess that when Warner re-issued New Order's back catalogue in compact disc format, that 'Blue Monday' was stuck on here because the album had no singles on it and 'Blue Monday' and its b-side 'The Beach' were stuck on to make this album stand out to people who bought the original 12" or who knew this monster hit but didn't want to pay $$$ for 'Substance.'

The others being Low Life and Brotherhood (of course), I could not recommend this more as an example of what the beginnings of the electronic revolution sounded like. The production is remarkable, completely sympathetic with the music. Only "We All Stand" doesn't work for me - the rest is magic. Essential

I've owned this recording it most formats: vinyl, cassette, CD.
Now I have the digital AND Compact Disc of this masterpiece.
I was careful to purchased the UK import of the "cleaned up" Collectors' s Edition.
And it is beautiful.

Factory Records did a masterful job at giving us the entire album and the bonus 12" remixes/ B-sides in a two disc set in a pristine version.

I wont review the songs - that's been done over the last 30 years.
But if you are a New Order fan, you have to get it. PCL, Low-Life, and Brotherhood (no, I did not accidentally omit Technique) are the Triple Crown of the N.O. catalog. Essential additions.

Enjoy!

I bought this because I kind of like Joy Division and was curious as to how the non-deceased members carried on. Normally, I don't listen to electronic/dance music so I was skeptical.

Hands down this is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Over a month later I'm still listening to it constantly. Considering it was released over 30 years ago and can still hold court with modern electronic music is a testament to the song quality. Sure it's 80s flavored but not terribly so like some of their later work I've checked out.

Just a great album. Streamed it enough times over the past few years that it made sense to buy it. Plus it was AutoRip, so I can add it to my computer and still have the cd to play in the car.

El primer álbum de New Order. Se sigue sintiendo el sonido de Joy Division pero ya con ciertos atrevimientos electrónicos. Un buen álbum de música electrónica,

The 'Movement' album was a farewell to JD and all who sailed in her, Hannett and some doom laden themes dispatched we find a desire to move on, and man do they move on here!! With Bernard's talky/singy style of lyrics, his guitar hooks on fire, and a rythm section that is taking no prisioners we move into a very clear vision of what New Order will be for decades to come. Gillian adds so much more that soundscape here, and regularly lifts a tune to dramatic new harmonic heights and drama. I love that even a track list is left out and a bonkers Saville LP cover that is both rediculous and cool at the same time. 'The Village' for me is the BIG eye opener to what is to future come, sparky, dancy and loose, with a chorus of 'Oh our love is like the flowers, the rain, the sea, and the hours!! (what?) it makes no sense, and who cares...to cap it all Bernie then just whoops us away to the next bit driven by a terrific danceable rythm that is toe tappingly brilliant!! Here we see a band producing itself into a new kinda sound that is always their's, never to be anyone elses!! (Although the 'Cure' gave it a try for a while) For me '586' is the Clunker, that adds nothing and so I skip to 'Your silent Face' (sublime.... end of..) 'Age of Consent' and 'Leave me Alone' are wonderful bookends to a fascinating progression from a band that I have grown old with, and on CD this album just shines as being in a class all of it's own.

Magnifico.
