This is the rare, affordable speaker that sounds good with (almost) whatever equipment you have, but is accurate enough to reward higher quality components.

I bought these speakers when I couldn't find a pair of Excite X14s for sale anywhere. I did eventually find those X14s, but I'm glad I bought these as well. They have become the workhorses of my home studio and other applications.

    APPEARANCE
I love the Dynaudio '20s Industrial design motif. These speakers are very solidly build and exude quality. No cheap faux wood grain vinyl here. They are solid, heavy, and otherwise built like tanks, and the fit and finish are excellent.

    SOUND
Let me begin by saying I would characterize these speakers as being on the warm side of the spectrum.

I started out using these as a secondary pair of passive studio monitors for quick mix checks. At first, they were powered by a cheap Samson 120a amp in stereo, which puts out around 55W RMS at 6 Ohms. They sounded great at my preferred mix level, which is 65 to 75 dB: flatly honest with just enough refinement and willing agility. Ragged recordings sound dirty and gritty. Polished material sounds it. Garbage in, garbage out. Near-field imaging places every instrument in its proper space, and lead vocals sit right on the bridge of the nose. My only niggling complaint was scale. They sounded like the small speakers they are.

So, I plugged in a second 120a, bridged them both mono for a little over 120W RMS per channel, and the speakers immediately gained depth and authority at the same output level. Scale was incredible for their diminutive size. Perfect. They sounded great, even with inexpensive amplification.

Now curious, I moved them to my (acoustically treated) study, where they were powered by a Cambridge CXA80 in far-field configuration, where they were fed a diet of CDs (Yamaha CD-S300) and FLAC files from my PC. WOW! The better amplification enabled them to improve on everything they do well. They image well and are otherwise great performers in the far-field configuration as well. (Eventually, those X14s got the nod for permanent placement in the study.)

From there, I moved them all around the house, connected them to all kinds of sources and amplification and was pleased with their performance in every configuration. They tolerate old receivers and lifestyle systems just fine, but are happy to reward better stuff.

One word of "caution," in case you missed it above. They work with lower powered systems, but they really want 60W RMS or more. Lower power amps make them sound more lively and energetic, but somewhat thin. They really scale up with 80+ Watts of continuous power, with 80W being the sweet spot, where they sound deep and full without losing too much agility.

    CONCLUSION
My M10s are back in the studio. They deserve to be there. They are better than any consumer grade studio monitors. Sure, the X14s found a home in the study, but that is because I found them a little too polished and polite for the studio. The M10s are more honest and are serving me very well.

The Dynaudio EMIT M-10 is a remarkable little performer. They manage to combine really great resolution and detail without ever sounding harsh; the treble driver is a masterpiece. The sound stage is wide, tall, and deep, which is probably the speakers' greatest quality. Transients are handled with ease and poise, such that the attack is really sharp and crisp, yet they stay 'calm'. The tonality of the speaker is mildly euphonic, which isn't a bad thing in my book, where music from digital sources are less tiresome to the ears for long listening sessions, and music from the slightly more laid back vinyl is still very beautiful sounding and I can listen all night with zero fatigue. The midrange is amazingly good with voices and instruments of all kinds, where placement in the soundstage is spot on while the sounds are articulate and it's really easy to follow along in song lyrics. The speakers are very musical and fun, yet detailed and precise enough to possess much of an audiophile's desires. The only thing they lack is that extra bit of slam for high energy rock music, but that is easily fixed with a subwoofer for extra weight and octaves. The speaker itself has great energy down to about 55Hz.
I use the speakers together with a PS Audio Sprout 100 amplifier, digital via Audirvana/MacBookPro using the integral DAC of the amp, along with a Rega P3 with Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge. This is a really well balanced system where the components are well matched. The speakers sound best, to my ears, when about 30 inches off the floor, and tilted back about 5 degrees. My stands are made of solid maple, with a 4" square maple column, joined to 2" solid maple top and bottom plates with mortise and tenon for ultimate strength. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone who is looking for a small speaker that works well in small to medium size rooms, that are easy to drive, and wants a speaker with audiophile qualities but can still be fun to listen to less well recorded albums - the focus tends to land on the music more often than how it sounds.

I was initially disappointed with this speaker. Too bright and bit raw in upper mid-range vocals. Tried different locations, angles, distances, etc. but to no avail. Was using the PS Sprout 100 as the amplifier which I thought would be a good pairing. Wrong. I borrowed a CI Audio 100w per channel, much higher-end amplifier ($1500) and the speakers really came to life. Used my Feliks Audio all-tube headphone amp as my pre-amplifier and in combination with the solid state CI Audio amplifier the speakers were no longer too bright, vocals were now smooth and silky, bass was extended and the sound stage wider. So ... bottom line ... great speakers for a small room if you pair them with a quality amplifier.

I had a pair of Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2 speakers in my studio that is about 10' x 11'. In this small room I had trouble controlling the bass reflections, even with bass traps and sound panels.. I replaced the Elacs with the Dynaudio Emit M10 and I'm impressed. The great thing about them is they have a port in back and a foam piece is included so you can tone down the bass reflections in small rooms. The M10's also give you a wider and more clear soundstage than the Elacs. The highs and midrange are very, very good, but they need more break-in time to get a little more balanced and warmed up. Build quality excellent and binding posts easy to tighten. For the price they are hard to beat.
