First, the renewed model is like new. I've had no issues whatsoever with it and it has what it advertises.
Second, I don't care about the smart features on this box and can't say if they work or not because I'm not going to use them. Preferably I would be able to find a player without these features but that doesn't seem possible in this day and age. I just want to put a disc in and have the disc play. And the box does that, I think it only takes you to the home menu if you power it on without a disc. Hopefully I never need to see it again after my initial setup of the device.
Third, the picture is great. The 4K upscaling is pretty good for regular blu rays. Is it going to breathe new life into your DVDs? No. DVDs don't look terrible but there is no magic to suddenly make DVDs look HD here. Haven't experienced any hang ups, freezing, stuttering, etc. I'm not a sound guy and just output audio and video with the same HDMI cable and it's fine. It passes through my TV to my soundbar and I haven't noticed any sound displacement or whatever.
Fourth, the remote is ok. I don't know what half the buttons do and I don't care. It has directional buttons, play/pause, a menu button, and a button to change subtitle settings and that's all I need. From my perspective, it could be much more simple and better laid out but it does what I need it to. I'll get used to the weird layout.
