A&futura SE100 introduces an 8-channel DAC chip. 8-channel DACs have previously only been available for premium home audio systems, pro-audio workstations, and recording studio equipment. It is making a debut for the first time in an Astell&Kern portable system. Your favorite tunes will now sound fundamentality different with even greater dynamic range and refined sound.

Maximum Output

It is common knowledge in the audio industry that the amplifier plays a critical role in Hi-Fi audio systems. The latest know-how and amplifier design technologies developed by Astell&Kern have brought 4.1Vrms of balanced output power with minimal noise. As the output power increases, the noise fluctuates louder as well. However, A&futura SE100 shows 123dB of SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) at 4.1Vrms of audio output. At the same time, the noise level on single-ended is even smaller, it produces 122dB of SNR. Pure sound is the result in our technical achievement allowing for powerful, yet clean sound to be delivered gracefully by the SE100.

Great Performance for the Ultimate Experience

The A&futura SE100 is equipped with an octa-core CPU which allows the player to produce the exact musical detail present in the original recording without distortion and provides a quick, lag-free operation.

The A&futura SE100 features faster booting times, speedy file transfers, lag-free processing and a new intuitive user interface for the ultimate player experience.

The A&futura SE100 supports native bit-to-bit DSD playback up to 11.2MHz for the best sound possible. The music is played back, bit-for-bit, just as the artist and engineer intended for it to be heard.

Next generation USB Type-C support allows file transfer speeds up to 10Gbps and supports both data transfer and charging from the same cable. USB 3.0 protocol transfers data twice as fast when compared to other Astell&Kern players. Charging with a fast charger (at 9V/1.67A) takes only two hours and allows up to 11 hours of continuous playback.

Simply put - AMAZING! This is wicked close to a SP1000, yet weights 1/3 less and less bulky! 3.5mm drives my AKG N5005( a pretty power demanding piece) very well already, will test balance output very soon which has a even slight greater output level than SP1000! This would drive most of the portable audio devices to their full potential for sure!P.S. Buy a 400 GB TF card and put tons of MSQ and DSD in there, 112 GB usable internal memory is just not enough.

Sound quality is excellent. Some issues with the unit, however. The graphic equalizer is totally nonfunctional. I actually returned a unit and got a replacement to be sure, but it doesn't work on either of them. The volume on the unit is excellent if listening through a cable connected iem or headphone. However, if using bluetooth, the volume is just barely adequate, even at its loudest setting. There is an "apkpure" open service feature that lets you load some apps to provide added flexibility to the unit. Downloading the TIDAL app, rather than just using the built in version, permits you to download TIDAL songs and store them on the units internal memory for listening away from the internet. However, I have not been able to get other apps to load, such as the SPOTIFY app. Also cannot get TIDAL to stream to my speakers, although allegedly that's possible. Hopefully, they will come up with some firmware update to fix those issues. Should also mention that Astell and Kern customer support is nonexistent. You can ask them questions over their website, but don't expect to ever get an answer

The sound is nice but there is a fatal imperfection. It is very hard to connect SE100 to PC and it seems to be a common problem of iriver's models. I can only succeed 1 out of 50 times and I have only succeeded for 2 times so I can't transfer the music from my laptop to it.

Maybe I expected too much. I also am a bit spoiled with a fairly high end component system, but the SE100 did not grab me. It has a pretty wide sound stage and good imaging, but I found the sound lacking, a bit thin. I just could not get engaged with the music. This may not be a fair comparison, but my Mytek Brooklyn blew it away it terms of sound quality (though not in terms of sound stage and imaging). Listening to Uchida's Mozart piano concerto, relatively little of the piano sound came through on the SE100, much fuller and detailed sound on the Mytek and much more engaging.
