Technical support for M11 Pro -FAQ

Note:Added Google Play framework about new firmware for M11PRO/M11

The new firmware of M11PRO is fixed the issue where the playback would fail in the new version of Amazon Music;

1.The M11 Pro uses two AK4497 chips that consume a lot of power to achieve high sound quality. It generates more heat than other chips when it works. Therefore, the M11 Pro will also emit heat when it is working normally

2.The battery capacity of M11pro is 4370mA while M11 is 3800mA instead. However, the DAC chip AK4497 takes more power so the battery life of M11pro is shorter

What should I do if the system crashes or freezes? Please hold the power button and play button for around 10 seconds to force a reboot. If that doesn't work, please sending mail to fiio support team

1. How can I access the storage/SD card after connecting the M11 PRO to the computer?

M11 PRO uses the MTP protocol and couldn't be properly recognized until the MTP driver installed. Connect M11 PRO to computer, open the disk named "FiiO MTP Driver"; Then, for Windows computers, copy the "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1590.exe" file in the folder "Windows" to a local folder on the computer (such as the desktop) and double click to install it; For Mac computers, install the driver stored under the folder "Mac\OS MTP Client". After that, you'll be able to access the storage or SD card of the M11 PRO.

2. How can I use USB DAC function?

First switch the USB mode to USB DAC (tap the 'Storage' icon in the pull-down shortcuts menu to switch or enter Settings -> Audio -> USB mode to select). After that, connect the M11 PRO to the computer via USB and use it as USB DAC. ( Before using on Windows computers, you'll also need to install the DAC driver, which can be downloaded at fiio website; for Mac computers, there's no driver required).

3.How to use the Bluetooth receiver function of the M11 PRO?

First, please turn on Bluetooth in Settings -> Bluetooth. If the 'Bluetooth decoding amp mode' is disabled, please enable it, then turn Bluetooth off and on again. After that, you can connect the M11 PRO as a receiver to a Bluetooth transmitter device.

4.What Bluetooth codecs does the M11 PRO support? And how to switch the codec

The M11 PRO supports the HWA, LDAC, aptX-HD, aptX and SBC codec. The HWA codec needs to be switched in the FiiO Music settings, while the others can be switched in system Settings -> Audio ->Wireless playback quality. Also, kindly note that after switching the codec, you'll need to disconnect the Bluetooth and then reconnect to have the changes take effect.

5. Why I cannot connect my Bluetooth headphone to the M11 PRO?

When using the Bluetooth headphone with the M11PRO for the first time, you need pair the two devices. Please make sure that the Bluetooth headphone is in pairing mode (just like the very first time that you use the Bluetooth headphone with other devices). When the Bluetooth headphone is in pairing mode, turn on Bluetooth on the M11PRO and search for the headphone to connect.

6. Why is the sound very quiet when connecting the M11 PRO to the Apple Airpods?

You can solve this following the below steps.go to M11 PRO Settings -> General -> About device tap on the 'Build number' for 7 times to enable the Developer options return to Settings, enter Developer options and toggle on the ' Disable absolute volume' option

The FiiO M11 Pro is a self-contained dynamo. Top quality DAC. THX amplification stage. Highly musical presentation of quality sound files. Able to reach low and sparkle on top. Not as clinical and dry as an iBasso or as tame as some of FiiO’s previous generation DAPs. A step up sonically from the M11 that shortly preceded it. But I would say the HiBy R6 Pro demonstrates a bit more bloom and weight especially with jazz, orchestral and even some deeply layered R&B tracks.

Devoid of a side-by-side comparison the FiiO M11 Pro cleanly exhibits the maturation of DAPs, being the perfect vehicle for Hi-Res audio sources. Combined with WiFi access, Bluetooth 4.2, aptX HD and being able to serve as an external DAC for your PC, this thing covers all bases and does so while wrapped in a very sexy form factor.

The large screen makes everything easy on the eyes. FiiO’s music app is simply fantastic. And you can even download other players like Onkyo’s it HiBy’s without any interference from FiiO. Google Play Store is on board and ready to give access to tens of thousands of applications.

This is not a phone. Despite Android being in busted. But it is a high-end audiophile music player that easily competes with Cayin, Lotoo, Astell & Kern and other rich for the pocket esoteric brands. Having recently pitted the M11 Pro against the Lotoo PAW 6000, in a side by side comparison, the FiiO didn’t just hold its own, it clearly demonstrated why the $1200 asking price for the B-Stock Lotoo was simply not justifiable.

Pound for pound the FiiO M11 Pro is arguably the most competent, reliable, serviceable and sonically pleasing DAP currently on the market in the sub-seven hundred dollar price category. It drives IEMs with ease, and efficiently runs larger over-ear cans with impedance of up to 150 ohms without additional need for external amplifier help when in high gain.

The 4.4mm balanced output is noose free and really lets the THX amplifiers stir their stuff. Enough already. Buy it. You won’t be returning it. It’s a keeper!

That's a turbo-charger to your daily listening experience. For me, and IEM powered by this turbocharger, I can get out-of-head experience as if you are listening to high-end speaker systems.

It supports outputs:
2.5mm balanced (utilizing full spec of the DAP)
3.5mm Phone-out, Line-Out(a very transparent tonality), Coax
4.4mm balanced (ditto)

It supports digital lowpass filters: to change how long the sound stays, how quickly attack/release hit and offsets.

When you download Fiio control app, you can even change the second and third distortions to match audiophile's taste, the less second / third harmonics, the cooler, the more the warmer.

It has a bitrate display option you can turn on in the menu, so you know what bitrate you are listening to.

It has easy shortcuts:
Output switch (PO/LO/Coax): The line out has a volume control (This is very unique as line-out are generally non-volume involved signals), so you can actually listen to pre-amped (Non THX AAA78's) pure DAC signal, even it's pre-lowpass filter sound.
Gain switch (High/Low): it's the power output control
Turbo mode (DSD mode on/off)
Music storage (USD DAC or DAP)
Airplay Switch (to use outside with your phone, android's DNLP compatible, or any Bluetooth devices)
Android/Music only mode (To turn off android smartphone functions, only dedicated to the music playing)
Screenlock
Blue-light off mode
Lowpass-filter setting

It's perfect. Nothing more nothing less.
It's rated 8.8 on highly regarded audiophile's polls, world's best is 9.4 but you have to pay $3.5k. second, the best is 9.0, you have to pay $1.7k.

For $650 with 8.8 score, this is my personal best value-to-money option. As we all know the DAP products keep evolving, we don't want to dumb our $1000+ to something that's gonna be outdated in a couple of years.

[Edit]
It does come with a glitch, like if you use BT DAC/AMP mode, and remained your smartphone in the paired memory, then turning off BT, the sampling rate on streaming gets override with 44.1kHz(but 44.1kHz to 2,822kHz DSD translation works actually very good as it’s 2^6 computational upscaling), simply remove Bluetooth paired smartphone and turn off all Bluetooth switches. Reboot. You will be able to listen with 192kHz.

44.1kHz to 2,822Khz upscaling on streaming services is not recommended, it consumes a huge amount of energy and releases extreme heat and may fly your either left or right channel by overheating, it’s a glitch so try not to overuse it. It’s an extreme turbo.

I was able to listen to streaming services with 176.5kHz =[ 44.1kHz x 2^2 (4x) ] with > 2^4(16x) > DSD (2,822kHZ). This is the best option for any streaming service with upsampling turbo.

This needs a little trick, hope FiiO lets users to chose upsampling rate in the future update.
1: Open FiiO Music App, play default songs by scanning all device
2: On FiiO Music App, while playing the default song, turn on "All to DSD"
3: While music is playing on FiiO Music, open any streaming service (Youtube Music, Amazon Music, Spotify)
4: You are good to go! All streaming music will be first upsampled from 44.1kHZ PCM to 176.4kHZ, then added 16x turbo to 2,822kHZ DSD quasi-analog sounds!

This unit sounds better than the M11 to me. It has a really clean detailed sound. The improved A/D converters are really doing the job and making a difference. One change from the M11 is it has only one card slot so that may be a problem for some. The interface works well and it seems to be slightly faster than the M11 even though it has the same processor. It works really well connecting to my NAS and playing a bunch of FLAC files. It supports both wireless G and N networks. An extremely easy player to get setup and going. I am happy with it.

I purchased this to be used primarily with my PC. I tested these along with the SMSL M500, and the headphones used were Hifi-Man Sundara and Sennheiser 660S. Both devices sound great and I honestly could not tell much difference between the two. However there were moments when the M11 Pro would lag behind at times. The price difference is about $250, so I went with the M500. If you want a portable device however, I don't think you can go wrong with these.

Comparing to the M11 and the M11pro, they are both impressive units. There are still some work that needs to be done and I presume future updates will take care of that but other than that, it is worth getting so you are not using up the resources on your phone to enjoy music. As for the sound quality for both units, you will only notice a slight quality increase if you have earphones like mine (Sennheiser ie800s) and the difference is with 24bit 352khz and up. If you have a nice pair of earphones like 1more quad driver or Sennheiser ie80s, Momentum, etc. And you mainly listen to 24 bit 192 kHz or cd quality sound than the pro version will not show any improvement over the M11 itself as the ak4493s are more than enough to handle high volume high quality sound for what I stated above. Both the M11pro and M11 are both absolutely the best on the market for HiFi playback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Den Konzertsaal zwischen den Ohren
