How do I do the initial setup of the earbuds and connect them to a device?
Once the earbuds are charged, remove from the charging cradle, enable Bluetooth on your device, and select “RZ-S500-W” for pairing. If prompted for a passkey, input “0000” (four zeros). Consult the Operating Instructions for more detail.
The earbuds are not fitting in my ears properly. How do I get a better fit?
The earbuds come with interchangeable earpieces of different sizes (2 of each of XS, S, M, L, and XL). Size M come fitted to the earphones. Make sure you try each size to achieve the best, most comfortable fit that’s straight, not at an angle.
How do I get the earbuds to make a secure seal in my ear?
Make sure you are using the right size earpiece (see question above). Insert the earbuds with Panasonic logo on the bottom and charging terminals at the top. Turn them a small amount at a time, back and forth, until the seal is secure.
How do I eliminate ambient noise?
First, the ear buds need to be snug in your ears. Try every size earpiece and make sure the seal is secure (see questions above). Touch and hold the touch sensor (R) for two seconds to rotate between noise cancelling, ambient sound, and off.
Bluetooth is having some interference. How do I keep it connected?
Bluetooth works best with less disturbance in the way, so keep tyour device close to the earbuds. Also, update the Panasonic Audio Connect app, or uninstall/reinstall the app. Use the app to update the firmware of your earbuds.

I originally left a poor review after my experience with Panasonic's front line support. After losing the charging case in a flight to Newark, NJ just 2 months into owning these, I was told I could not purchase a replacement case and would have to purchase a new set. I was directed to various departments spanning hours and did not get anywhere. That's when I left an honest review based on my experience. I was not looking for a handout, just the ability to purchase a lost charger so that I can keep using my earphones.
Shortly after leaving a review regarding my experience with customer support, Panasonic's consumer affairs division sprung into action above and beyond my expectations. Eddie Williams with Panasonic reached out to me via cell phone and email to assure me he is on the case and would make things right. He mentioned that he was contacted directly from HQ in Japan regarding my review. I offered to pay for a replacement case (I take full responsibility for the lost part) and instead he offered to exchange my buds for all the inconvenience I went through.
To me this was a 180 degree turn of events in my experience. The way Eddie handled this and his regular follow-ups takes my rating to exceptional because I do not think other companies would do this for such a premium product. Thank you Eddie for restoring my perception of Panasonic. I have purchased many Panasonic equipment over the years (even my Iron is a Panasonic multi-directional- love it). Panasonic has always produced effective quality products and these buds reinforce this.
Here's the deal with the RZ-S500W buds:
If you are looking primarily for effective noise cancellation ability and travel frequently- buy these. These are much better for air travel/flights than the Airpod pro's if you're listening to music or watching a movie in flight because it kills background noise and has better/richer mids and bass. You do not feel you are in a plane with these. The sound quality on calls is great and I like the app feature that lets you adjust the equalizer to suite your preference. The app also received a much needed facelift and has never crashed. I also like how the app updates the firmware on the buds. Other buds might be better if you are doing more intense cardio or sweating as these are a bit heavier. Also if you are making calls while doing cardio I do feel the airpods pro have the edge because of how much lighter they are and use leverage to sit in the ear versus plugs. I'm rating these 5 stars for my primary use/purpose of air travel/ air port use and the exceptional customer support provided by Eddie and Panasonic's Consumer Affairs division.
FIRST WEEK EDIT: Been doing a lot of yard work wearing these. As I sweat more and more, the earbuds lose their grip inside my ear more and more. I've had quite a few instances where the earbud just straight fell out of my ear. I'm constantly finding myself adjusting these and I've tried various sizes of the earbuds. For some reason, I mainly seem to have this problem with my left ear, which is more than likely an issue with me and not necessarily the earbuds.
The touch sensitivity. I don't know why any manufacturer ever thought that touch-capacitive buttons are the way to go. This technology should've been sent to Hell five years ago when all the car manufacturers started to realize what a dumb idea touch-capacitive buttons were. Need to readjust the fit of the earbuds? You're gonna make the earbuds think you just went through five different commands.
The sound quality on these is just SPECTACULAR. I have some genuine gripes about these, regarding the fit and the light (the light issue may seem so insignificant, but you really can't understand until you see them; it's so bright. I can't imagine wearing these on a plane as I'm sure other passengers would want to rip my ears off), but in spite of those gripes, the sound quality on these is just that good that I'll deal with those issues on my own terms. Songs that I've heard hundreds of times in my life sound like NEW songs as I'm hearing details in the music I've never known were there (and I have 16 speakers in my car!!). I can't raise my three-star review yet as I'm still very much in a love/hate relationship with these. Fix the light issue and I'd raise it up.
ONE MONTH EDIT: I've ditched my wired, over-ear Sennheiser headset for Zoom meetings and have been using the Panasonic earbuds. The earbuds have full stereo for voice calls, meaning that you get sound in both earbuds. What's great about having the two earbuds with full, independent Bluetooth connection, and stereo for calls, is that you can use both earbuds, or use the right or left one by itself. I am a teacher, which means I use Zoom everyday, all day, and I'm the one mostly speaking. My students say that my voice quality with the Panasonic earbuds is great.
Light issue is still not fixed. I've resorted to placing a sticker over the light.
I've been experiencing more and more issues with connecting the earbuds to my phone. When I take the earbuds out of the case, they struggle to connect immediately, and my phone will go through 1 to 3 connection attempt cycles before they will actually connect. It's pretty annoying.
PASSIVE SOUND MODE: As I've said before, the Active Noise Cancellation on these is INCREDIBLY good. However, on the opposite end, the Passive Sound Mode (where noise cancellation is turned off and ambient noise is pumped through the earbuds so that you can speak to people without taking the earbuds out) is terrible. Even with no music playing through the earbuds and passive mode ON, I can BARELY hear people speaking and have to take the earbuds off. My previous earbuds had an incredibly good passive mode where I could carry a conversation with people while still playing music through my earbuds. Not with these.
SIX MONTHS: Still using these but most of the above issues remain the same. They're still going strong with daily use. My wife wanted some wireless earbuds; I bought her some AirPods instead.
MAY 2021: Panasonic released a firmware update that allows for customization of the touch controls (nice) and... THE ABILITY TO TURN OFF THE FLASHING LIGHTS!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Updated my review from 3 to 4 stars.
Whatever was in the last software update seems to have solved the dropped connections. I haven’t experienced any randomly dropped connections with my phone since the last update. Things are improving.
DECEMBER 2021: HEY! I'M STILL HERE! Still using these buds, a year and some months later. Sound quality is still great. Battery life has depleted a little bit but not that much. I'm probably getting 30-60min less use with the buds compared to when they were new.
One issue that has risen with extended use is that the buds are having a little bit of trouble charging when in the case. I've cleaned the charging contacts with alcohol (there's a ridiculous amount of them) but to no avail, the buds still have some issue with charging. I have to jiggle them in their case to get them to establish a good contact to charge. It's annoying, for sure.
MARCH 2021: The Panasonic buds have met their end of life. The right earbud seems to have "blown" its speaker. If you know the sound of a blown speaker, then you know what I'm talking about. If you don't, well, just think of crazy distortion and a lot of "static," particularly in the extreme lows and highs. It's disappointing that these buds have lasted only 1.5 years.
Top reviews from other countries
I got them on a wearhouse deal so I can say it's good 👍 but full price no
The sound is also fine. Again, when I switch to the Sonys I realise it's not quite as good, but also, if I'm not switching back and forth, it's fine.
The fit is also fine (for smaller ears). Profile is a little bigger than I like, but fine. Connectivity? You guessed it, fine.
In summation: these are fine.
In all I have 7 over ear headphones and 1 on ear headphones and 3 earbuds. I normally dont use in ear because my ear canal is small. Even with the smallest ends I still have a problem with them falling out. I cant fault the earbuds for my small ear canals.
The charging case does feel a little cheap but it does what its suppose to do.
I would definitely recommend them to anyone that wants to spend over 100.00.
