Product Description
AudioQuest JitterBug FMJ
AudioQuest JitterBug FMJ USB Data & Power Noise Filter
Many tens of thousands of music lovers are already enjoying better audio enabled by the original AudioQuest JitterBug USB Noise Filter—plugged into cars’ USB jacks, laptop computers, USB “service-only” jacks on Ethernet Streamers, and more.
Now, JitterBug FMJ, with its Full Metal Jacket raises the stakes.
Whether used in series (in-line) or in parallel, JitterBug significantly reduces contamination from RF generated by a computer, car, or other device—JitterBug FMJ also thoroughly addresses everyday RF Noise taking advantage of this vulnerable interface.
The new metal case is the most obvious change, though even the seemingly innocuous hinged “rubber” piece covering JitterBug’s output is crucial to JitterBug’s improved performance. That little black “door” is RF-proof thanks to the material being substantially RF-absorbing Carbon.
Employ one JitterBug in series between any computer, smartphone, NAS, streamer, or car audio system and a USB input. For an additional sonic improvement, use a second JitterBug in another unoccupied USB port—in parallel to the first—except with JitterBug FMJ’s front door closed.
Noise reduction and noise dissipation is AudioQuest! One can’t hear our modern world’s pervasive RF Noise itself, but the compromises it causes robs us of detail and contrast, and outright buries so much subtlety. Fight back with JitterBug FMJ.
JitterBug FMJ
Use with DragonFly
A JitterBug in series with AudioQuest DragonFlys Black or Red always helps those wonderful creatures fly higher and faster. However, it’s best to experiment when putting a JitterBug in front of a DragonFly Cobalt—which itself employs some of JitterBug’s filtering, and so the two filters in series can help or hurt performance depending on specific equipment and context.
- Regardless of which DragonFly or any other considerations, a 2nd JitterBug in parallel is always a delightful improvement as it pulls more RF Noise off the USB power bus
- A JitterBug makes just as big an improvement even when plugged into service-only or update-only USB ports on many devices
- JitterBug uses USB-A connections on both ends. When used with a computer or other device (or car) with only USB-C, AudioQuest offers a super-compact high-performance C-male to A-female adaptor

NOTE: Per the manufacturer's notes, this is only USB 2. When writing files through this device, it is really really really slow vs. without it (assuming that you have USB 3-compatible devices). So... as inconvenient as it may be, if you're doing a bulk write it would be best to temporarily remove this from the signal chain.
This solved an unstable-handshake issue I encountered with a high-end DAC (AudioGD R27-RE) connected to my PC that's physically quiet but spews electrical noise. The DAC was unable to decode any PCM streams with >48kHz sample rate until I added this to the chain. In the past solving this kind of issue would have required a full digital interface unit with galvanic isolation between the input and output ports, or changing the connection to Toslink (which can present its own issues because it adds electrical/optical conversion steps using mass-market components).
I won't share my personal opinion regarding changes this made to my music quality. If the result of suppressing noise and jitter is your DAC getting a clean digital stream that decodes more accurately to the original encoded sound, then yes, the signature can change. But there are many factors involved in this that determine whether any difference will be audible.

If you're looking for a solution to the computer noise buzzing (you can hear your mouse generating noise), try the iFi iDefender. Should be about $80-90, but it dramatically reduced the noise. There was still SOME noise, so I also used the iFi GND defender and I now have perfectly clear sound.
Now it does say it's meant for RF signal interference so that might be why. They should show examples of what exactly a user should be experiencing without it since the description seems like it could be a catch-all.
I figured the noise was caused by the poor audio circuitry on my motherboard, so I picked up a FiiO JadeAudio KA3 dongle, which is using an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC, and ran the same TRS-to-RCA cable from the dongle to my A90. When the dongle is plugged into my computer, I hear the same noise.
I plugged the dongle into my phone to test it, but I without a mouse, I could do was stream some music and change apps, but no matter what I did, there was no noise.
At this point I figured it must be some kind of interference on my USB bus. I tried using all the different USB ports, hoping that they might provide less interference, but none of the ports made a difference.
I found a few articles about USB filters, and the Jitterbug was mentioned a few times as a good USB noise/power filter, so I gave it a try.
What a disappointment. I used it inline before my dongle, in different ports, both inline and next to the dongle. The noise is still there. It didn't make any difference at all.
I also didn't hear any difference musically. It still sounded the same. I am not an "audiophile" so I might not be listening to the "right" things, but I failed a blind A/B test that my wife help me with.
While this device isn't super expensive, it didn't fix the noise issue I have, nor could I hear a difference in sound using it, so I is being returned as soon as I finish writing this review.
The dongle supports a 4.4 balanced output, so I picked up a cable to use the balanced output into my XLR inputs on the A90 to see if maybe running balanced will get the noise out. Wish me luck!
