2012 album from the veteran British Hard Rock band. Nothing would be easier for British rock legend UFO than to rest on their laurels. But idleness or a musical standstill have always been out of the question for Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond, Andy Parker, and Vinnie Moore. These in equal measures experienced and ambitious musicians are interested in the present, their love of creativity and the active continuation of their celebrated band history. HAVE OVER 500 CDS LOADED IN COMPUTER AND EVERYDAY LISTEN TO AT LEAST 1 SONG FROM THIS NEVER GETS OLD AND KEEPS GETTING BETTER [update nov 23,2014] !!! overall my favorite go to of all time grows on you the more you listen, seems to me that ufo freaks like me are on another planet or decibel level but what's eatible to me this material is not followed by mainstreamers and vice versa, maybe not getting the proper education has left me this way, don't know why other people don't like this is my all time favorite go to maybe i need a brain exam but i cannot stop thinking about it the moment i awake its the only thing worth listening to. i read somewhere that england recently ranked this as #18 most important music, thank you mr mogg for given us some great music for the ones that appreciate it, this record and you are here i just can't get enough another masterpiece here and sharks third favorite and walk on water # 4 i don't know what happened but for me i like newer stuff better then 70's and 80's ufo, now that phil mogg no longer sports the long hair platform shoes and star studded shirts all the stuff you shouldn't worry about he can let his hair down so to speak and his solo album is nice also
listening to ufo since 1979 and when i seen them in concert 1980 i said where is all the concert goers? but never again did i hear mention of this group while journey stones zepplin foreigner whitesnake arrowsmith etc were being played on radio but would go and always buy the ufo cds thinking to myself this is my style and kind of music i liked listening to and was i right cause everytime i popeed in their music into a player it always made a part of me come alive that no other band or group could do to me, amen i was fadding away into the old timer crusty lifestyle but since this came out i refuse to go away quietly, who cares about schenker this cd is the best yet everything the flow composition the break-ins the voice the way it flows absolutely my favorite ufo album and i have almost all of them, i get into it so much i feel like that bag o bones dude on the front cover is me and so cool the riff in burn your house down almost out of tune so screetchy over the top i like it and at the end of waving goodbye i know its reds saloon but it almost sounds like waving goodbye to the last igloo which is haunting to me wow it is igloo

I have everything recorded by Ufo. Long time fan. Actually got a chance to see them in Ft. Lauderdale in February - they sounded excellent. Been waiting a long time ! That being said - they did not play one song from "7 Deadly" in their set. They did play "Hell Driver" from "The Visitor" and a buddy I was with asked what album it was from so he could buy it ! I know their bread is buttered with the "classic" stuff but some of the new music is damn good and I think it would go over well live.

So, on with "7 Deadly". If I had to rate the "Vinnie" Ufo records it would be :
1. You are Here 2. 7 Deadly 3. The Visitor 4. Monkey Puzzle

I like Phil and I like the blues - heck - I love the "Sign of Four" album... but I prefer Ufo a little heavier. In my opinion, there are 4 strong tracks here. I put them between and "8-9" on a 10 scale: "Fight Night", "The Last Stone Rider", "Waving Good Bye" and "Other Men's Wives". Strangely, the last one is a "bonus track" that is stronger than a lot of the "non-bonus" material !

Then we have a second level of tunes - good, not great - about "7" out of 10:
"Wonderland", "Mojo Town", "Angel Station", "Bag O' Blues" (another bonus track).

The third level comes in at "5" out of 10 - you just say "ok" - : "Burn Your House Down", "Year Of The Gun" and "The Fear".

At least, in my opinion, there is only one "stinker" here - "Steal Yourself".

Thing is, the third level tunes and the "stinker" are all incarnations of the same kind of song and three of them are back to back on the disc ! If only they would have knocked out two or three of these and popped in a couple more uptempo rockers...hummmmm next time !

In summary, I like 8 tunes - 3 are ok and one is poor. Not a 5 star release, but better than average.

UFO is still producing strong albums after being around for more than 40 years. The songs here range from hard rock to ZZ Top style Texas hard rock blues (lots of lyrics about Texas and Mexico) to their ballets. A breakdown of songs.

Fright Night: Great hard rock opening track. Could have easily fit on one of the Michael Schenker 2nd era albums of about 10 years ago.

Wonderland: The hardest rocking song on the album. Real heavy guitar rifts. Phil talks about wanting the monkey, not sure of what that is all about.

Mojo Town - Another heavy song with a major Texas blues flavor. ZZ Top would be proud.

Angel Station: How did a Bruce Springsteen song make it on a UFO album? You really could close your eyes and think it's the Boss except the guitar solo is a little bit heavier. The longest song on the album and much different than the 1st 3 songs.

Year of the Gun: A southern blues boogie number. Not sure how UFO went from a hard rock British band to a Texas hard blues boogie band except that drummer Andy Parker lives in Texas now.

The Last Stone Rider: Another Bruce Springsteen tune somehow made it on to here. Good foot tapping tune.

Steal Your Range: Mid tempo ballard. Lyrics sound like a message to former bass player Pete Way who has been battling alcoholism and liver disease. ZZ Top influence shows through on this one.

Burn Your House Down: Dark brooding angry ballad. A concert staple from the current tour of this album.

The Fear: 70's mid tempo southern rock tune with harmonicas mixed in.

Waiving Good Bye: Great ballad with a nice hammond organ in the background. Lyrically it sounds like it's a message to Michael Schenker and that the rest of the band is moving on with references to someone's tanterums and mad men.

Other's Men Wives: Dark blues number about a guy finding out his wife was cheating on him. Not on of the stronger tracks on the album.

Bag O' Blues: Piano driven old time style blues number. There is just the piano here, no guitar or drums.

This is the second album of the UFO lineup of original members vocalist Phil Mogg and drummer Andy Parker, long time member keyboardist/guitarist Paul Raymond and guitarist Vinnie Moore. Moore has served the longest conscecutive term of any guitarist in UFO history being in the band for 8 consecutive years. Bass duties are filled in by session musicians on the album and tour.

Im zarten Alter von 13 Jahren saß ich, der Mann der Hex, mit meinem Cassettenrecorder vor dem Mono-Fernseher, um Suzi Quatro live aufzunehmen. Das war live kein Pop, das war Hardrock - nun wußte ich, was ich wollte.

Nach ihr kamen ein paar schwitzende Irre mit nackten Oberkörpern, die mit "Rock Bottom" einen fast zehnminütigen Gitarren-Orgasmus zelebrierten - ich hatte, was ich wollte. Die UFO-LP "Phenomenon" hörte ich rauf und runter. Als die Folge-LP "Force it" rauskam, hatten sie mein Bruder und ich an dem Tag gekauft, als wir anschließend ins Konzert im Münchner Schwabinger Bräu gingen - ein damals gemütlich mit Wirtshaustischen ausgestatteter Saal. Mit der brachialen Wucht von "Mother Mary" als Opener riß es das Publikum von den Stühlen und eine viertel Stunde später tanzte alles auf den Tischen. Das hielt keiner aus und nach dem Konzert glich das Ganze einem Schlachtfeld (später war nie mehr bestuhlt bei Konzerten)und die Band hatte die Zuhörer im Sturm erobert.

In der Folge hatte ich immer ein zwiespältiges Gefühl bei neuen UFO-Platten: dieses Wahnsinnsgefühl der ersten Stunde vermißte ich, war enttäuscht,um dann zu merken, dass mir irgendwelche Melodien im Kopf rumgingen, deren Ursprung ich manchmal erst wieder ergründen mußte: es war ebendiese Band mit der unvergleichlichen Stimme von Phil Mogg, die sich mir in Herz und Hirn geschraubt hat-wie besagte Liebste eben. Dabei ist es bis heute geblieben,und mal ehrlich, Millionen-Seller wie Bon Jovi (die Favoriten meiner Frau) haben auch auf den meisten Platten nur ein paar Treffer und der Rest ist solides Handwerk. Eine "Phenomenon" macht jede Band nur einmal!

Den Vergleich mit der Liebsten an meiner Seite lasse auch ich -impositivsten Sinne gelten: die ist zwar 50, aber wenns drauf ankommt, zeigt sie -beim Salsa wie beim Mountainbiken - den Jungen immer noch, wo der Hammer hängt.

"Fight Night" und "Wonderland" pumpen das Adrenalin hoch bis zum Limit, den Rest mag ich einfach - Laustärkeregler empfohlen auf 15 Uhr.

Just received my copy of the latest UFO offering and I'm pleased to say after 2 plays I'm right impressed! Moog's vocals can only be described as mature and soulful and the band are clearly in fine form.
I would go so far to say that if this had been released in the late 70s or early 80s it would be regarded as a classic up there with 'Lights Out'. I accept there are no really hard keyboard driven tracks in the classic vain of say 'Lights Out' or 'Doctor Doctor'.In fact I can't really detect any keyboards in the mix at all; that does'nt detract from the whole feel that this is classic UFO stuff. The majority of the tracks remind me of that classic offering the mighty 'On with the Action'which one seldoms find reference to on any greatist or best of's UFO. I for one unlike other reviews like the recent 2/3 albums after all the guys are getting older and have already proved their pedigree and have all those classics in their locker.
I have the digi pak version which offers 2 bonus tracks which I feel are the only let down on the album and are just filler or rejects but are there anyway.
I will be looking forward to hearing most of these numbers live on the upcoming tour but I'm sure only 2 or 3 will be played to make room for all those classics from the past...bet they don't play 'On With the Action'?

同時代であればＴＨＩＮ　ＬＩＺＺＹもそうだが、アルバムがでれば期待と不安が常に交錯する存在であり続けている。
２０１３年の現在も現役として現存している事もすごいと言えるだろうが、
何より私のようなファンが存在するからという事実があるという事は大きい。
なぜ今までと考えると、１つ明確な答えがある。
両グループによる大名盤というＬＩＶＥ盤があること Strangers in the Night と
 Live & Dangerous である。
この魔力の呪縛から離れられないからである。
この時代のＬＩＶＥ盤があれば、プライベート盤（ＣＤ／ＤＶＤ）にまで手をだしてしまう事実があるように、
布石は生（ＬＩＶＥ）にある。
しかし、それに至るためには心動かすスタジオ盤は必要だ！
ポール・チャップマンが在籍した メカニックス は素晴らしいアルバムである。
当時の日本公演も観ている。ポール在籍時のＬＩＶＥ盤（ＣＤ／ＤＶＤ）もとても気にいっている。

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2012! Logbuch des Raumschiffs UFO, Kapitän Phil Mogg:
Das Raumschiff UFO hebt wieder mit seiner 5 Mann starken Besatzung (Phil Mogg - Gesang, Andy Parker - Schlagzeug, Paul Raymond - Rythmusgitarre / Keyboards, Vinnie Moore - Sologitarre und Aushilfsbassist Lars Lehmann (u.a. Uli John Roth, Konstantin Wecker, Marla Glen) und einer neuen Antriebsscheibe "Seven Deadly" ab, um neue und alte Hardrockwelten zu erobern und zu beglücken. Originalbassist Pete Way zog es lieber vor sich hochprozentigen Flüssigkeiten zu widmen und ein paar Gigs mit Ex-UFO Kumpel Michael Schenker zu zocken.
UFO konnten nach 2 schwachen Alben mit der letzten Veröffentlichung "The Visitor" wieder einige Glanzlichter setzen. Das neue Album knüpft da an, wo man mit "The Visitor" aufgehört hat, wenn gleich auch nicht mehr ganz so stark. Phil Mogg singt wieder in seiner einzigartigen Art und Weise und Gitarrist Vinnie Moore spielt sich immer mehr aus den großen Schatten von Michael Schenker heraus. Die Songs bekommen durch den entdeckten Bluesanstrich eine interessante Note, ohne das der typische UFO Stil verloren geht.
Jetzt aber zum Schnelldurchlauf von "Seven Deadly":

"Fight Night" - Ein trockener, wuchtiger, riffbetonter Stampfer, der gut in das Ohr geht und mit einem Weltklasse Gitarrensolo aufwartet.

"Wonderland" - Ein schneller Rocker im Stile etwa wie "Lettin` Go" oder "Pushed To The Limit".

"Mojo Town" - ist hart, schleppend, düster und bluesig angehaucht mit einem packenden Refrain und einem kurzen aber knackigen Solo.Vielleicht das beste Stück der CD.

"Angel Station" - eine Halbballade - nicht übel, aber der große Tiefgang fehlt mir etwas; das Gitarrensolo ist wiederum super.

"Year Of The Gun" - richtig cooler, bluesiger und sehr lässiger Gitarrenriff und einem guten Strophenteil. Der Refrain ist mir etwas zu verschachtelt, dabei geht die gut aufgebaute Spannung etwas verloren. Allerdings muß ich zugeben, je öfters ich das Stück höre, desto besser wird es.

"The Last Stone Rider" - leicht angefunkter Gitarrenriff auf dem sich die Gesangslinien von Phil Mogg aufbauen; melodiöser Refrain - kein Übersong aber auch nicht wirklich schlecht.

"Steal Yourself" - klasse Gesang von Phil Mogg über einen wiedermal bluesigen Riff; Vinnie Moore spielt starke Sololicks zwischen den Gesang.

"Burn Your House Down" - eine gelungene Ballade; das Tempo ist nicht allzu langsam und die Gitarren sind leicht angezerrt. Ich würde die Nummer als härteres Lagerfeuerstück bezeichnen.

"The Fear" - jetzt sind UFO endgültig beim Blues angekommen; - das ist richtiger Bluesrock mit schönen Harpeinlagen und einem Slidegitarrensolo.

"Waiting Good Bye" - zunächst wird der Gesang akustisch begleitet, später gesellen sich verzerrte Gitarren hinzu; auch das erste Stück wo mal die Keyboards richtig durchschimmern; melodiöser Refrain und wiedermal glänzt Vinnie Moore auf der Gitarre.

"Other Men`s Wives" - es wird immer bluesiger, das hört sich bald so an als wenn Stevie Ray Vaughan aus dem Grabe gestiegen wäre um mit den Jungs von UFO "Mucke" zu machen. Cool!

"Bag O` Blues" - Eine Bluesballade, begleitet nur von einem Piano. Da fühlt man sich in eine amerikanische Kneipe aus vergangenen Zeiten versetzt, wo ein Mann am Klavier sitzt und die Gäste unterhält. Geschmackssache - mir gefällt es!

Fazit: Die neue bluesige Seite von UFO, die man schon auf "The Visitor" praktizierte, wird auf "Seven Deadly" noch weiter ausgebaut, ohne das dabei die typischen UFO Trademarks verloren gehen. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger fallen die Songs insgesamt etwas schwächer aus. Allerdings hat die CD Langzeitwirkung - je öfters ich sie höre, desto besser wird sie. Songs wie "Fight Night", "Wonderland", "Mojo Town", "Year Of The Gun" und "Other Men`s Land" werden die UFO Fans nicht enttäuschen. Neueinsteigern empfehle ich doch die Klassiker wie u.a. "Walk On Water", The Wild The Willing And The Innocent, "Strangers In The Night", "Obsession", "Lights Out".
