From the manufacturer
Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings

- Round wound sound
- Less finger noise
- Ernie Ball’s optimal core-to-wrap ratios ensure comfortable tension and playability.
Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings
Ernie Ball Slinky Flatwound Bass Strings bring together the smooth feel of traditional flats with the modern power of cobalt. Cobalt, a metal that Ernie Ball introduced to the electric string world, displays a very strong attraction to the magenets in guitar and bass pickups. This enhanced magnetic relationship results in a flatwound bass string with increased brightness, clarity, and output without the finger noise of a round wound string.

The only 2 drawbacks… they are expensive and they have a kind of weird stickiness. Not sure if it’s the Cobalt, or something the strings are treated with, or the way they are ground flat. Regardless, they feel odd but it’s not a game breaker. Worth the cost.
*Update: Took them off because the feel is just not great, and the tone isn’t quite a flatwound sound.
