Product Description

Classic OD tones in a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching. The Fulltone OCD V2 (Obsessive Compulsive Drive) overdrive pedal packs classic OD tones into a compact pedal with simple, no-fuss operation. From heavy crunch rich with overtones and feedback to spanky cleans, the OCD delivers the sounds of a great tube amp, as sell as the same sensitivity and response to your playing style. Along with standard Volume, Drive, and Tone controls, the OCD V2's HP/LP (High Peak/Low Peak) switch takes the pedal from a clean boost to manic, sustain-laden distortion. True bypass switching. Some notable V2 updates to the classic OCD: -Output buffer (when pedal is turned on in True-Bypass mode, or always when in Enhanced Bypass mode), which eliminates it from being influenced by effects that came after it. Translation: Your sound remains consistent regardless of placement in today’s more complex signal-chains, loopers and pedalboards. This buffer also had a positive effect on the sound, it reduced loading on the pedal’s hard-clipping stage, allowing more sustain of both the sound and the overtones. -Class A configured discrete 2N5457 JFET input section, raising the input impedance to 1 mega ohms (previously 330K) and increasing the dynamics. This results in significantly better interaction with both single-coil and humbuckers. -Internal switch to choose between ”Enhanced Bypass” and True-Bypass, and with no popping sound in either mode. Visual Changes The Fulltone OCD V2 has slightly smaller “OCD” and “Fulltone” logos, along with “Built in the USA” under the Fulltone logo. Next, the In and Out jacks are placed exactly at the halfway point of the left and right sides on V2, whereas with all previous versions the jacks were located more toward the bottom. Solid construction
Was needing an overdrive pedal so I figured I'd get the best one. Solid construction, I was honestly surprised how sturdy and solid the pedal felt in my hand. Naturally love the made in the usa. Pedal sounds great, not that I'm an expert guitarist so take this with a grain of salt.

I'm obsessed with Orange amps, and like many people I have spent a lot of time and money trying to find the perfect pedal to function as a boost/OD for solos/bridges. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard w/ humbuckers through a Rocker 30 or OR15 depending on my use case, and play mostly punk rock, dirty rock n roll, and some metal. I think what I've always wanted was my amp to sound like an Orange and somehow get leads to sound more like a Marshall JCM800. Tighter, more responsive, more percussive, and plenty of volume boost when engaged. The Fulltone OCD does exactly that and more, while preserving the Orange's natural character.

I mostly use it with the volume dimed out, drive at 0, and tone at 12 o clock for boosts, but there are several other usable tones in this box. Another journey entirely, but the OR15 especially hates fuzz pedals (probably due to lack of headroom). The Fulltone OCD with the gain and tone knobs dialed in just right (also with tweaks to amp controls AS WELL AS guitar tone adjustments) pretty much nails a classic Sleep or Sabbath-y fuzz tone. You can also get a wicked Marshall-like punk tone with the gain set to around 11-2 o clock on the pedal and the gain on the amp at around 10-11 o clock. It's very accommodating for the types of music I play.

If you have a similar set up and play similar genres, I'm really don't think there is anything better. I've gone through several Tube Screamer variations (Analogman modded Ibanez TS9, Maxon OD9, Maxon 808), and while the Maxon OD808 probably got the closest to what I was looking for I was still never truly happy with the way it colored my amp's natural tone. The inclusion of True Bypass on the OCD is also a win over the Maxon. I also went through a few clean boosts, like the BBE Boosta Grande and MXR Micro Amp. Both of these pedals function great for strictly volume boosts (nod to the BBE for being utterly transparent), but the option of added grit on the OCD for sustain and compression was a must for me.

Side note: If you want are going down a Fuzz pedal rabbit-hole with either of these amps, here's my advice. The OR15 lacks the proper headroom to get usable sounds out of a Fuzz pedal, but using an OD while dialing in all your knobs works wonders. The amp already has a pretty great fuzz tone built-in. The Rocker 30 is more kind to Fuzz pedals, but is still very picky. In my opinion, the search should probably end with a Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh. Lots of great tonal option with this combo.

After trying out a number of "overdrive" pedals I gave this one a shot - and it turned out to be just the right one for my setup. I like to start with a nice clean tone, and then use one or two differently voiced overdrive pedals to give me both a crunch tone and one that is more suited for leads. The Way Huge Green Rhino is perfect for my crunch sound, but once it's set I needed something that would let the leads sound full, but still cut through the mix. Tried the Pigtronix Fat Drive, but it was too bassy; the TC Electronic Mojo Mojo Drive was too edgy for my taste, as were a number of other "overdrive" pedals - most had a "jagged" or "edgy" tone quality - not a smoother, rounder tone. The Fulltone Fulldrive got close, but the boost switch just added more distortion, not more volume ... so the cost didn't justify the tone I was looking for. The OCD give me two different types of overdrive - one voiced more like an American amp that is pushed, and a higher gain setting that is more like a British Vox or Marshall tone. It does the job admirably - and again, this is just based on what I personally find pleasing to my ear. If I need to boost the volume I kick in my Pigtronix Class A Boost. And I also get different tones out of both the Class A and the OCD, depending on whether I run them at 9 volts or 18 volts. The latter gives more headroom and cleaner tones, while the 9 volts allow the crunch tones on both to kick in sooner.

I take time to read reviews and listen to as many audio samples of effects pedals as I can on websites and YouTube, and once I narrow down my choices I generally order in the ones I want to try with my own setup, do a shoot-out, keep the ones that suit me and send back the ones that don't. So I always make sure I can return these for a refund if they don't work out. What works for me may not work for you, but maybe this will give you an idea of what the pedal can do.

I have been using Fulltone pedals for over 15 years and have had numerous pedals of various functions (3 different Fulldrives, 2 different Deja-Vibes) etc. Honestly some I have not really liked and some I still use to this day and thats OK. One thing that is not disputable is the quality of ALL of the pedals has been superb. Say what you will about customer service, but as a private consumer, I have emailed Fulltone several times over the years with an inquiry and believe it or not, ALL of my emails have been answered by Mr. Fuller personally, some almost immediately. For my own personal needs, I have every intention to continue to purchase Fulltone products. As for the OCD, this is my second OCD pedal. My first one was one of the very first OCD shipments to come out of Fulltone and although it performed as advertised and described, it never really blew up my skirt and I passed it on. Recently I purchased the final issue, the V2 edition and I love it. It may look like the early versions, but to my ears, its a different pedal and has evolved into what I need now and I will not look back. I remember the very first descriptions of the pedal and what Mr. Fuller meant by an "OCD" pedal and believe me, this pedal is all that and more. I use 100 watt HiWatts, Vibro-King stack, 57 Tweed Twin, Plexi stack and even a Blues Junior and this pedal seems to have never met an amp it didn't like. My personal motto is anything worth doing is worth doing in excess and this fits right in. Enjoy, but remember, this pedal will take no prisoners and may ultimately out do the Plimsoul, which I also own.

This pedal is really nice and gives a different sound than the amp my brother uses. The only complaint was that the battery drains very quickly. He will play his guitar and the next day the pedal is dead and needs a new battery- kind of annoying.
