Fender Newporter Player Highlights
|
|
|
---|---|---|
Solid Spruce TopThe soundboard provides the most important tonal element of an acoustic guitar. Spruce is the standard choice, as few woods can beat its strength, sound, and dynamic range. Solid spruce tops are known for opening up and sounding better over time. |
Fishman Preamp and TunerA Fishman pickup/preamp system includes a variety of onboard controls for amplifying your acoustic instrument without compromising its pure, rich, and resonant tone. It also features a convenient built-in tuner. |
Electric Guitar-Inspired FeaturesThe matching painted Strat-style 6-in-line headstock imparts Fender’s rock-and-roll attitude into this acoustic-electric instrument. The supremely comfortable slim-taper "C"-shaped mahogany neck will feel familiar to electric players and is also suited to acoustic players looking for a slimmer neck. |

Playability is also very good. With the included strings, the action is medium/light. The neck is slim and fast; it looks and plays very much like a Strat. I can play some barre chords on it that I cannot on other steel string acoustics. There's a little bit of fret buzz at the bottom of the neck, but I rarely play down there anyway.
Craftsmanship is good on mine with no obvious flaws. The front is solid wood, but the sides are laminate (as you would expect at this price point). The painted finish looks unique and stunning to me.
In summary, I'd recommend the Rondo player as a solid buy for $400. It's well built, very playable, and clear sounding. It would probably be most appealing to someone who favors a Fender style neck and plays a lot with amplification.

I bought this for my wife so she had a more comfortable guitar to learn on and perform with but I have not been able to keep my hands off of it, it's just a really fun guitar to play and with my 30 years experience, my preferance for bigger boomy acoustics and a collection of various high end models, I was absolutely taken back by this little beast of a guitar. So now I'm buying one for myself also and considering other higher Fender models also. I highly recommend the Fender Newporter and don't make the mistake of dismissing other similar models either if this is what fender has been up to lately!
