Fender Newporter Player Highlights

Solid Spruce Top

Fishman Preamp and Tuner

Electric Guitar-Inspired Features

Solid Spruce Top

The soundboard provides the most important tonal element of an acoustic guitar. Spruce is the standard choice, as few woods can beat its strength, sound, and dynamic range. Solid spruce tops are known for opening up and sounding better over time.

Fishman Preamp and Tuner

A Fishman pickup/preamp system includes a variety of onboard controls for amplifying your acoustic instrument without compromising its pure, rich, and resonant tone. It also features a convenient built-in tuner.

Electric Guitar-Inspired Features

The matching painted Strat-style 6-in-line headstock imparts Fender’s rock-and-roll attitude into this acoustic-electric instrument.

The supremely comfortable slim-taper "C"-shaped mahogany neck will feel familiar to electric players and is also suited to acoustic players looking for a slimmer neck.

3 defective guitars, Fender wants to dismiss issues and refund a sale price only
1 Star
3 defective guitars, Fender wants to dismiss issues and refund a sale price only
Immediately after opening and inspecting the guitar I found a scratch on the body, overspray from the body paint on the neck in multiple places, rough fretwork and other noticeable imperfections. I originally considered returning the guitar as it did not sound very good, played poorly (almost 8/64ths on the low E 12th fret) and had multiple cosmetic imperfections, but I would have lost my 50% sale price(more on that later) and payment deal with Amazon.7 months after purchase, I found my bridge to be lifting with a slight gap all along the rear, large enough to slide a piece of paper over 1/4" underneath. I contacted Fender support, and their immediate response was to send me a new guitar, no choice on my behalf if I preferred getting it fixed, etc. The new guitar arrived with a gap underneath the bridge in the same area, as if there weren't enough glue being used or other issues with the finish. After discussing it and showing pictures to Fender AGAIN, they said they would send me another, but I requested sunburst as to get a typical poly finish that the builders might be more familiar with and not have issues(at least that was MY thought process and request). I was then told it would have a 'white glove VIP inspection', and setup by their 'premier technician Frank to do a rock star setup,' as they said. Their exact quote "This guy sets up guitars for the celebrities that purchase from Fender" LOL. Dude needs glasses and a new job.I received the 3rd guitar, and it had finish cracks on the back of the neck where the neck meets the neck heel, and it looked as though there were sanding marks and sandpaper dust to try and mask it, so somebody along the production or inspection process saw the cracks and passed the QC check. The bridge has a chip out of it on the glue side, essentially missing a piece that should be glued down. This all passed the 'white glove VIP inspection'. The 'setup' had 4th, 5th and 6th strings buzzing all up the neck, from frets 2 to 12, the truss rod was backed off all the way for barely enough playable relief, but not enough to stop the buzzing from them shaving the saddle too short (about 5/64ths low E, too low for the cheap fretwork.) 4th fret was basically springboarding on the bass side, refusing to stay pressed in, causing major buzz on basic stuff like an open G major chord. There's no way humidity and temperature changes did this to a setup after 2 days, even the saddle was not sanded flat on the bottom, I pulled it to examine and it was clearly rushed. This is their VIP inspection and rock star setup for celebrities. LOL again. After showing this third guitar to Fender, they only want to refund me now, citing my only option as picking one out in person now after they write me a check. Well, that'd be great except they're now 2x what I paid because I bought during a 50% off sale, and they're clearly not made any better. They want to give me $243 and told me to go buy another one in person. They're treating me as if I'm being picky, when all they need to do is actually inspect these guitars and not send out junk. So because Fender has poor quality control and inspection processes, if the customer isn't happy with a B stock item Fender marks as new, then the best they do is refund and offer a free hat or shirt. Why would I wear a logo of a company that doesn't even want to support their customers? I'll take the free shirt and burn it at this point. I am now being redirected to a third party service center who has to verify work with Fender, and I don't have my hopes up, as Fender has been very dismissive and only take care of those who make them large sums of money. (even then, pages of warranty issues on reddit and FB groups are prevalent when searching fender warranty stories). Sending out replacement guitars without even checking them, or claiming inspection when there is none is my story x3.I would highly caution against buying any new Fender product, especially if susceptible to warranty claims, as the Fender company is now owned by a vehicle conglomerate as a major shareholder (Servco Pacific Inc), who clearly only wants to focus on profits and gains, and not a reputable product. Keep in mind also, these are all "brand new" guitars, and the only picture that ISN'T right as I unpacked the guitar is the one with major bridge lift, and that happened after being lightly played in a 48% RH room kept at 70F along with 23 other guitars after 7 months (all of which the other guitars are 2nd hand, some come from Korea, Indonesia, Japan, were purchased from other areas of the country as well, florida to AZ, NY to AZ, etc. NONE have humidity and temperature issues once within my possession EXCEPT this guitar, and Fender is trying to claim temp and humidity even though this was out of box every time in this condition x2). Fender is okay with me selling this guitar in this condition, because I told them I could get more money by selling than a refund, but I refuse to sell shoddy guitars to people, and they recommended I do that instead of swapping my guitar a 4th time, or give me a voucher somewhere, or how about actually inspect the guitars with their eyeballs. The customer needs to be taken care of PROPERLY. I actually restore and refinish mainly vintage acoustic guitars, wanted to try a new purchase for a cheap beater I can plug in a gigs, etc. and it turned out to be a nightmare dealing with customer service, and I don't think I should be having to fix a 'rockstar setup' and repair a brand new guitar. There is no clear communication between departments at Fender, and when issues become unsurmountable for their little weak customer service reps, they resort to just repeating 'refund refund refund.' I WANT A WORKING GUITAR, NOT A REFUND, AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIX A BRAND NEW GUITAR X3. Now I only get half of one if I want a new replacement with no issues because I took advantage of a sale that only existed because almost every guitar company had record sales in 2020 and 2021 and overestimated 2022 and 2023, so Fender hawked a bunch of cheap guitars with issues to places like PAS (Pro Audio Star) and Amazon. They even told me at one point they will have more sales again in the future - More sales like the one brought upon by extenuating circumstances like the pandemic? Sure. Again, just dismissals from Fender because they already DiD eVeRyThInG tHeY CoUlD. I will be reaching out to a few groups and YouTube channels, may even start a guitar channel off with this terrible experience, because I want people to know what kind of company Fender operates as nowadays, and I refuse to support them going forward after what should have been a simple exchange or repair turned disaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable in this Price Range
Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2021
I've played Taylor's for 30 years as my primary acoustic guitars. And I own 5 different models 615GA down. I also own Martin, Gibson and Epiphone acoustics as well as Yamaha and Blue Ridge. 3 Fender American Strats, 2 Fender American Tele's, a Gibson Les Paul, a PRS 10 Top, Gibson SG, so my point in listing some of my guitars is this, I own a lot. I play a lot. The Fender Newporter is not only gorgeous to look at, it sounds incredible. Whether played through an amp or just sitting and strumming in your chair. The neck is fast and smooth and plays really well. There is no fret buzz at all. It sounds amazing. The setup was perfect right out of the box. All it needed was tuning up about half a step. Comparing it with some of the guitars I mentioned it really holds its own quite well. And unless you are comparing it with a $2000.00 300 series Taylor or above, this guitar holds it's own with the Taylor GS, the 100 or 200 series guitar. And is actually easier to play and sounds better. And compared to them price wise, this is by far the best deal. The size of the guitar is also a winner, as it is about the size of the Taylor 314 Grand Concert. Which is smaller in size than the GA, or grand Auditorium. Plugged into an amp the guitar really shines. The onboard electronics allow you to shape the sound to adjust the highs lows and mids. Plus the onboard tuner is very accurate. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. A beginner or pro. If there was one thing to say about this guitar I didn't like it would be the inline tuners typically used on older or cheaper model guitars. But they work well and keep the guitar in tune. Unfortunately the Left Handed only come in Black or Metallic Red for us left handers, that I've found. But for $429.00 they are worth every penny. Spend another 100 bucks and get a good case. Well done Fender. Although these are part of the California Series of guitars, they are made in Indonesia. But don't let that scare you off. Great guitar. And I will add a thank you to Amazon for carrying these left handed as well. Great job in getting it here. Packed and overpacked.

Got a fantastic Amazon sale price on this left handed acoustic. Love the look with the Fender headstock style. Very easy playability and action. It is a bit smaller & slimmer then my Alvarez dreadnought. On board electronics include a tuner which is a real nice to have.
