Product Description

Product Description

For players who want the style and sound of Fender’s Golden era, we created the Vinterra ‘60S jazz bass. Equipped with the coveted features that defined the decade—including period-accurate neck profile and playing feel, along with recreated ‘60S pickups—this bass has all of the Growl that made the J bass famous. For authentic, original-era tone we re-voiced the pair of single-coil jazz bass pickups to sound more like the originals. Gritty and growling, they have the tone that made the J bass popular. The “mid ‘60S C-shaped neck has a 7. 25”-Radius fingerboard with 20 vintage-style Frets for classic playing feel. A vintage-style, 4-saddle bridge with threaded saddles and reverse, open-gear tuning machines provide original-era aesthetics, rock-solid performance and tuning stability. Other features include 34” scale length, Chrome hardware and 4-bolt neck plate. Includes a deluxe gig bag.

The best Fender Mexican bass I've played!
5 Stars
The best Fender Mexican bass I've played!
As soon as these were announced, I knew I needed one! Well, the time came and I took the plunge. This bass is gorgeous. Overall it's on the lighter side, so it won't kill your shoulder. All of the finishing is immaculate. Paint, fret ends, inlays, etc. It was mostly set up out of the box. Pickups were at the right height. I had to adjust the neck (which requires a phillips head and removing the neck to adjust--not fun, but I guess it's a 60's appointment) and set the saddles for intonation and my height preference. I was able to get low action and no buzzing. The pickups have a wonderful jazz bass sound, with extra growl in the bridge. They are definitely voiced differently from the typical MIM fender jazz basses. Tons of range between the neck and bridge pickups. The tone cap is a '503' 100v, which I understand to be a .05 mf to vintage specs. Some of you might prefer a lower value for less rolloff. The fretboard is pau ferro, and I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of fretboard but this one seems to have some kind of clear coating on it. I tried to apply fretboard conditioner/oil to just clean off any factory residue and to condition the board but the didn't seem to absorb. Kinda strange but not a dealbreaker for me...Besides the Road Worn series, these are the most expensive MIM (made in Mexico) basses made that I'm aware of. But they are definitely nicer than the current line of MIM basses. If you want a really nice Fender, but don't want to drop $1500+ on an American one, consider this. It's worth the extra $300 over the MIM Player series stuff.
