The only reason I’ve written this gigantic review is because I am SO thrilled with my purchase that I want to convince everyone who is on the fence about this to go and buy it. It’s worth every copper penny. You. Must. Own. This. Card.
I already knew this card was awesome before I bought it. Why else would you order it, right? Well, to be honest, this card has FAR surpassed my expectations; it is way more powerful than I expected. I play on a nice 1080p 144Hz gaming monitor, and in my first review I said “I know, a 980 Ti is overkill for 1080p”. But you know what, it’s not, and I take that back—maybe I like to play my games at 100+ FPS! I consider this card to be the “God Mode” of high refresh-rate 1080p game graphics; every game gets absolutely crushed and I never have to be annoyed by graphics issues, stuttering, VRAM limits, worries about “Can my system handle it??? :/” :P
When I got the card I played around with overclocking a bit—I got a card rated 71.0% ASIC quality, for whatever that’s worth. It seems to overclock a little ways, but I didn’t try to push it past 1500MHz. And now I just switch the card to OC mode in OC Guru II (which puts a +38MHz boost on the core clock), and that’s it—I don’t even need to mess around with overclocking this beast.
The 980 Ti G1 Gaming runs very quiet and the cooling is excellent. ****8/23/15 Update: A little over a week after hooking up the card, I just got my first very noticeable coil whine, with the changing pitch and everything. This occurred in the menu screen of Witcher 3 when I first boot the game up. The FPS in this screen was jumping around over 3000 FPS, but from what I have heard and read, it is to be expected to get coil whine with FPS that high in any application. My concern though is that I really don't want to see the coil whine increase, especially since it didn't even start at all for a week after running the card. If it gets worse, and extends into lower FPS ranges, I will be sure to update this review.**** I created a custom fan curve for the G1 Gaming (very easy to do in OC Guru II) so that the fans don’t turn on until the card warms up a bit, and even when they do turn on it’s very quiet. Example: I was just playing Shadow of Mordor for about an hour, everything set to Ultra, and with the HD Texture pack installed. I get a constant, and I mean CONSTANT, 100 FPS, as the game seems to be locked from going higher than 100. Occasionally it dips to 99 FPS, and rarely down to 98 FPS… It’s like that. When I turned the game off after an hour of continuous play, I immediately opened up GPU-Z and the card was reading at exactly 60 C and dropping.
In Witcher 3, with all settings on Ultra (except stupid Hairworks, which will forever be turned off), I average around 90 FPS, sometimes hovering above 100+ FPS depending on what I’m doing. Occasionally it dips a little lower depending on the scene, like one time as I was in a random spot looking at some trees and the FPS hovered around 60, even though the scene wasn’t very complicated and there weren’t too many trees. Then as I ran like 15 steps forward, I was back up over 100 FPS. So you get the picture there, Witcher 3 = crushed.
I run Battlefield 4 on Dynamic Super Resolution now, rendering at 4k and downsampling to 1080p, and while I don’t actually have a FPS measurement for that game, it runs incredibly smoothly and looks very sharp, might as well be 80-100 FPS.
Dying Light is another good example—with my old Strix 980 overclocked between 1400-1500 MHz, I couldn’t get that game to run smooth enough to be enjoyable—I always had stuttering issues and random framerate drops. Shadow of Mordor too, I always used to get huge stuttering when navigating the game menus, or working in the ‘Sauron’s Army’ screen. My theory is that I got those problems because those games are console ports that were not well-optimized for PC memory, and therefore eat up more VRAM than they should. But with the 980 Ti and its glorious 6gb of VRAM, Dying Light runs smooth as buttah with everything on Ultra—usually between 85-100+ FPS.
In conclusion: buy this freaking card already, what are you waiting for???
(Oh and P.S., this is ALL I’m going to say about this: if you REALLY want the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain code, it is within the realm of possibility to get if you purchase this card. It just takes a little bit of time and effort to get. You can figure out the rest.)
The cooling of this card is outstanding, fan stops working when GPU is under 60 some degrees (its passive cooling effect is good enough), and you can barely hear the noise even when playing intense games. the temperature is about 70-75 while running ACU with default fan settings. If you set the fan speed to 100%, GPU temperature can be controlled under 65' while running furmark stress test.
By the way, there are only 7 screws connecting the cooler and the pcb and there aren't any tiny parts inside the card so it is easy for you to disassemble this card, but be careful with the memory and mosfet thermal pads.
The default GPU clock is 1152MHz, and its actual speed can be boosted to about 1.3GHz. The ASIC Quality is 71%, and it can't run stably when I push the base clock to 1250 MHz with default voltage: the system will freeze up and reboot when I play ACU for a while or run Unigine Valley, but there's no overheating or other problems. Anyway, the card is already powerful enough without over clocking.

I'm running a 1440p monitor at 110hz (not gsync).
Pros:
It's fast. Really fast.
I was able to overstock over 1500.
I like how you can set the color of the LEDs.
Cons:
In SLI they get hot....and loud.
SLI isn't even a huge benefit.
When I restart it loses the color setting for the LED.
So, if I were to do it again....I either wouldn't do SLI, or I would just deal with reference cards to get the heat out of the case as fast as possible...or maybe do a hybrid card, but would be hard to fit two of them....
Update: I got the second monitor to work but only after setting it to under 40hz refresh rate. This tells me it is not a driver issue but much more hardware. Will be RMAing for my 3rd card...hopefully this gets fixed.
