Overall though, this card is amazing and HBM is amazing with higher resolutions and games in general. The size of this thing is no joke, it is the biggest card I have seen also (to me) the prettiest. It does NOT come with a DVI port but it does come with a DP to DVI, which didn't work for me since it was stuck at 1080p. I will be getting a new one hopefully soon without these issues and I'll update this when I do.
PROS:
It's quiet. It's cool. It plays games flawlessly. I was a bit hesitant to purchase this beast initially, but after receiving it, that hesitation disappeared when I loaded up The Witcher 3 and bumped everything to Ultra. Boy, was I missing out or what!
Compared to my old 7950, this thing is silent even after 30 minutes of FurMark. My case fans are louder.
CONS:
It's long. Nearly a foot long. Thankfully, it fit in my case without any issue. For those of you with small enclosures, consider the Fury Nano.
BOTTOM LINE: If you want a good card, get this. The price per performance for an enthusiast card is amazing.
Addendum: For those of you who are curious, I was able to unlock half of the disabled CUs (see http://www.overclock.net/t/1567179/activation-of-cores-in-hawaii-tonga-and-fiji-unlockability-tester-ver-1-6-and-atomtool). This fantastic card just got even more amazing.
I have bought AMD/ATI Sapphire cards for YEARS... and nothing else.
But this card will not reliably do 3840x2160 at 60hz on the DisplayPort ( I tried 4 different DisplayPort cables, all DP1.2 rated )... My old HD7870s were able to do this with no issues. I even got some corruption on the HDMI at 3840x2160 30hz with several brand-new HDMI 2.0 certified cables.
My friend ordered this exact same card, and had the exact same issue.
This seems to be a common issue with ATI's new Fiji chip... Because of this, for the first time ever... I now own an nVidia video card ( 980 Ti ).
Don't buy a Fiji-based ATI card unless they address this glaring issue.
TL;DR Unless you don't care about its cosmetic appearance or overclocking, get the NITRO version instead.
PROS:
It can play older PC games at 1080p over 144hz/fps, current games at 1080p averaging 100hz/fps, and games at 1440p over 90hz/fps, with all at possible max settings. But because this is the little brother of the Fury X, it does struggle at 4K resolution, but it can be compensated by lowering the game settings for a playable frame rate.
The three fans and heatsink on this GPU keeps the card cool, but what's even better is that you can manually adjust the fan curves by the TriXX utility app provided by Sapphire's official website to keep the card even more cooler and more quiet.
Example Before: Under 76c degrees at load with stock settings.
Example After: Under 69c degrees at load with custom settings.
The HBM vram is great but despite its default 500Mhz memory clock speed, it can handle 1440p/4K at ease thanks its colossal 4092-bit memory bandwidth. The 500Mhz memory clock speed is not something to look down on.
CONS:
Terrible overclocking. The card runs more hotter at 1100mhz core clock speeds with voltage increase, causing minor artifacts on textures while gaming. Overclocking the memory clock speed is NOT RECOMMENDED. I guess maybe I didn't get the good overclocking card. However, the NITRO version remedies this with better components for higher overclocking up to 1150mhz core clock speeds with no voltage increase, effectively making the NITRO version much more potent in overclocking.
Noticeable and loud coil whine. The fans on the GPU are good and quiet, but that coil while can be heard even within my enclosed PC case. However again, the NITRO version remedies this with updated and better components by feedback(s) from this model, effectively removing the coil whine in same gaming scenarios.
The cosmetic orange color schematic can be a turn-off for certain consumers. I personally didn't care at first but then it began to bug me over time, since I have a side window on my PC case with a silver-aluminum with black color theme PC components, along with white LED fans. The NITRO version is another option for cosmetic neutrality, but its heatsink is heavier and card width is more wider, so please do reconsider researching your case/components before purchasing. Both cards are HUGE.
MORE THOUGHTS/CONCLUSION:
The 4GB of vram can scare some consumers away for future proofing. As of now, there are few present game titles that uses up to 8GB of vram and more future games will eventually take advantage of GPUs with 4GB or more vram. However, as of this moment, those future game titles won't be released any time soon, so 4GB of vram will still prevail on most current game titles as of 2016. Unlike the current HBM vram(aka HBM1) with the limit of 4GB of vram, AMD will release new GPUs with HBM2, which will support up to 16GB of vram and will be release in 2017(TBA at the time of this review), so you can wait for HBM2 if you are patient for future proofing.
Both cards are beautiful, as the backplates are nicely designed and not too overwhelming.
The power draw LED indicators above the 16 or 8 by 8 pin connector can be changed from but limited to only blue, red, purple, or off. Whether you want it on or off, it is up to you, but the NITRO version has these LEDs removed.
Once again, unless you don't care about this version's cosmetic appearance or poor overclocking potential, get the NITRO version instead, as it is more cheaper right now and more abundant than ever. They are both the same cards, but just made differently. Despite the cons, this is still an excellent GPU.
This concludes my review. Thank you for reading! :D
