On board sound is nothing ground breaking but it does work well. It overclocked to 4.4GHz without breaking a sweat and has remained stable through normal and gaming use. Overall this is a great board for someone looking to get into the Z97 line. It is priced a bit higher then some other comparable boards but has the added benefit of on board AC wifi so if that's something you were looking to upgrade you might be saving yourself a few dollars that way.
As a side note: The Asus software has some bugs/install issues but it doesn't detract from the overall board. The board shipped with the oldest bios. I highly recommend getting the latest and greatest at the support website!
After I finally get the PC restarted via the reset button, it works fine. However startup can be a real pain.
After further investigation it turns out that only the USB 3.0 ports have this problem. When devices are plugged into the USB 2.0 ports, they function properly. Even my external hard drive has this problem, but only when connected to a USB 3.0 port.
The problem with the USB 3.0 ports continues, and it has gotten worse. I think I'm going to ditch this motherboard and get a new one from a different manufacturer.
Save your money and stick to the non-wifi version or a different board. To be fair, though, the Z97 Pro is a great board if you ignore the wifi issue. That's why I gave it three stars.
07/18/2015 Well my luck has not held out on my Asus board. After trying to use a new steering controller and brake pedal set with this board I ran into all kinds of issues with the USB ports and boot up. If I plug in the wheel and pedals it will not boot. I have updated and installed drivers but nothing solves it. I finally had to go into the bios and disable the usb ports until the OS loads and everything was working fine till the last few days and now it seems to go into a endless cycle of trying to boot and failing and then trying to repair itself which also fails. If I unplug the wheel and pedals I can get it to boot. Major pain because the PC is under a cabinet and I can't keep pulling it in and out to plug and unplug the cables. I also read on the iRacing forums that other people are having the same issue. I just ordered a MSI Z97 Gaming board and will replace the ASUS board. I have been using ASUS boards for years and always came back to them but this has been my worst experience with a ASUS board and probably my last.
