My review of the Nexus 5.

    The things I didn't like:
    1. The speaker is probably the worst part of the phone. Even when you use headphones, it's too quiet. I actually use my Moto G when I want to listen music so that's a real turn off.

    2. The battery life - I have watched reviews that suggests the battery life will get better with time. I've only had this phone for about a week but it has never gotten me through a full day. It maxes out at about 7 hours so I always have to take my charger. I won't consider myself a heavy user. I use my phone to do mainly chatting, your typical social media stuff, news, internet browsing etc. I don't do gaming or movie watching - so considering that I really expected a full day. I'm still waiting to see if it gets better with time.

    3. The camera - is a weak point on this phone. It carries a 1.3MP front camera - which is really as bad as it gets on a high end smart phone. This camera is really ok for skype etc... won't give you any good photos at all. The back camera is a 8MP, I will say this camera exceeded my expectations because I've heard so many bad things about it I guess I bought it expecting the worst. I'm yet to take any photos with HDR+ enabled and the quality of the photos are satisfactory. With phones around with 13, 26, 20 and even higher MP, if you're really into photo and video taking, I won't recommend this phone. You're never going to impress anybody with any photo that comes from this phone - never mind it was marketed for these purposes.
I will add that there is a new google camera app that was launched last week that makes the experience a better one and includes the lens blur feature of the HTC one (M8) but it reduces the quality of the photo in this mode. As google continues to update the camera app I imagine the experience in this department will only get better.

    4. Design - I don't mind the simplicity of it but I will admit the iphone 5s and the HTC one (M8) are incredibly sexier and more pleasing to the eyes. So too but less so is the Sony Z2. Phones like the Moto X and the HTC one (M8) are invariably gonna feel better in your hand as well.

    5. The display. I wasn't sure what people meant by the display being 'washed out'. I found out when I bought this phone. Holding it up beside the Moto G, the display on the Moto G (which is quite incredible I must say) looked better. Something is off with the colours but I find when the brightness is turned all the way up it looks better. Why does the colours change with dimming the display - I'm not sure. Apart from that though, the display is boss.

I have not experienced any connectivity problems with this phone.

    What I love:

    1. The price. I can't afford an iphone 5s (won't buy one even if I could), the s5, the Z2 or the M8. This phone is always compared to these phones despite the huge price difference. The fact of comparison alone says a lot regardless of the verdict.

    2. Software - 4.4.2 - I love having the latest and greatest OS and being first in line for every update. Google Now is deeply integrated and there is zero bloatware. These are three things that are highly important to me. At the end of the day, software is what you're going to be interacting with each time you turn on or unblock your phone so I can't think of anything that could be more important.

    3. Performance. The OS makes specs less important than they use to be because it requires less. For that reason, the Nexus 5 performs just as good and even better than other flagship devices. It can handle any app you throw at it and after one week the phone has not stopped to take a breather. There are other phones that have better specs and it doesn't make them better - they require more to handle the bloatware that bugs down the device. Don't be fooled in this regard - the Nexus 5 has everything under the hood you could ever need.

Keep in mind this phone does not allow storage extension.

I still give this phone 5 stars because it is obviously intended to target a specific set of people - people like me who place software at the top of the list of priorities alongside price. There really isn't a better phone you'd get at this price.
There is no such thing as 'the best phone' - phones are different just as people are different and they are made to meet different needs. You have to know what you want out of your device and I found what I needed out of the Nexus 5. If the strengths of the phone are not important to you and the weaknesses are I could easily recommend a different phone.
I'd surely recommend this phone to those whose attention its trying to get - it is a deal you should not miss.

This is my first "smart" phone. I had to get one in order to operate my home and business automation and security equipment. It's not really very smart when tasked with the really important aspects of voice phone functionality.

Until I rooted it, it insisted on going to sleep at some point. That's dumb--that's not smart. That added a layer of aggravation to each task as I had to wake it up to do anything at all.

I can't dial or answer without looking at it. That's dumb--that's not smart. With my hardy old flip phone I could dial a call using only proprioceptive and tactile feedback (dial by touch). Voice dialing on a smart phone doesn't work well when you've got to dial numbers that aren't pre-programmed into the contact list and that's what most of my life involves.

It's only so-so when receiving cell tower signals. That's dumb--that's not smart. If you're in a saturated large city, you'll probably be okay but you will be frustrated when your friends with $20 CDMA flip phones can call out while your $400 Google Nexus is dead in the water.

It does come unlocked and is easily rooted. That's what coaxed me to try it as my first "smart" phone.

It doesn't have a memory card slot so if you thought you could just plug in a USB OTG cable to overcome that deficiency, think again. You've got to have root. That's dumb--that's not smart. Why does it let you access the internal memory, even transfer that memory over WiFi or Bluetooth yet it restricts a card that is hard-wired plugged into its data port?

It's also got dismal battery life for someone who wants to use it a lot and the battery is not easily swapped out. That's dumb--that's not smart. So, just forget the idea that it's slim because you're going to be quickly adding a thicker than thick 3rd party battery pack/case to it (maybe even have to get two cases to swap out like I did). My next phone will definitely be chosen for a user replaceable battery feature (like the Samsung's product line) so I can keep charged batteries ready to swap out through the day.

It can do wireless charging but that's not very useful to me because I can't use the phone while it is charging. So, as you know, plugging and unplugging from a charger can wear out the USB port. I've purchased a Hakko soldering station so I could replace the USB port of my past little phones. However, nice thing about these Nexus 5's is that the USB port is on a little circuit board separate and apart from the main board and is therefore easily and cheaply replaceable without soldering if you are the type who will accept the challenge of unsnapping the case and disconnecting components to replace stuff.

So, I got myself a nice 10 foot charging cable and I can use the phone while it is charging. Get a nice cable with large diameter copper conductors. It really makes a difference even with the supplied LG 1.0 amp power supply that comes with the Nexus. The OEM LG cable is thin and flexible but doesn't adequately carry the full charging current. It doesn't seem to speed things up by using a power supply greater than 1.0 amp because the phone's chip regulates the charge, but, it shouldn't hurt to use a more powerful adapter if you think that would be helpful. If you charge battery packs, you'll absolutely want to get better cables that than the one that comes with the phone.

I will say that the touch screen is sensitive and functions well. Some touch screens in my life ignore me but this Nexus 5 works every time with every touch and every swipe.

The Google aspect of its android personality is pretty intrusive. You'll want to root it to get, at least, some control of its data sharing functions.

I could text on my little flip phones without even looking for most of a short text transmission. Can't do that with these so-called "smart phones."

However, I do like the 3rd party encryption apps that help to shield texts from prying eyes. Now, that is smart. That is really smart. I couldn't encrypt my little flip phones. And, with other apps, I can encrypt all sorts of data before uploading or transmitting. That's really, really, smart.

I do wish a smart phone had a standardized tactile keypad. You can replace those for a few dollars if they go bad and they really make life easier for those of us who use us a smart-phone frequently for voice communication. Using a touch screen for voice calls is like booting up a computer to make a Skype voice call. It's much faster and more reliable to pick up a tone dial device and get the job done quickly. I still remember how frustrated my smart-phone colleagues would get when I could flip-phone dial and be done with a call before they accomplished multiple reconnects and re-boots after their phones failed repeatedly to engage the task. Now, however, I am one of them whereby I can sometimes watch YouTube videos but I can't rapidly and reliably call a business contact to solidify a money making deal.

So, you know what has happened? Yes. Like many others, I now carry a flip phone for important calls and making money and I relegate my so-called smart phone to other tasks like turning on my security alarms, reading the news while I eat lunch, and transmitting pictures and documents from the field.

Item arrived fast via UPS, came with original box and plastic covers for camera and screen, came with original charger. No scratches, is as described in picture. Flashed the OS to the latest Google stock factory ROM though you could also go on XDA developers site and get whatever ROM you wanted like PureNexus, ect. Nexus 5 is easy to customize though I found to save your battery you should turn the screen brightness down which often makes no difference in user experience.

Super disappointed. Phone was faulty from the moment it arrived, felt more like getting a broken hand-me-down than a new phone. Some of my friends have this phone and love it so I assume this was just a faulty one. When it dies I have to turn it back on three times to get the apps to appear. Half of the time the back and/or return to home screen buttons don't work. It doesn't receive incoming calls sometimes which I know isn't my network because that never happened on my iPhone 5 and have never had issues like that on Rogers in Canada. I would try and return it but now that it's been activated and I don't have another phone it would be even more problematic to have no phone for however long that would take. This has been a nightmare. Unless google takes over the world and Android is the only phone left on the market I won't ever buy one again. Not to mention how unintuitive the software is. I forgot why I switched to an apple phone and computer in the first place. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe...

Bought two. Came exactly as advertised. Really impressed with the fast shipping. Only one bump. Both phones are unlocked. The first one fired up perfectly. The second one started up and came up with a picture of the green android figure and said locked?? I pressed the power button once and it closed and the phoned started up normally. Don't know what's up there. Other than that, both phones work perfectly.

I have been so impressed at how efficiently it uses the 2GB of RAM. Runs Android 6.0.1 beautifully, fully encrypted storage, monthly security updates from Google, seamlessly switches apps. Chrome is also really fast, as is the GPS (if u live in the northern hemisphere, GLONASS really makes a difference).

The downside is a slow bootup time (about a min) and battery gets used up quickly, i charge 1-2 times a day.
