Twin Frozr V - Cooler, Quieter, Better Gaming
With every new generation of GPUs comes more performance. With every new generation of MSI Twin Frozr, we give you less noise and heat! We've listened to all your requests and the new Twin Frozr V is smaller, features stronger fans, generates less noise, keeps your graphics card and its components cooler and matches perfectly with your MSI GAMING motherboard including some funky LED lighting. We've spent 18 months on the development of the Twin Frozr V, including field testing in gaming cafés to ensure the cards have the quality and stability to give you the FPS you need!

Airflow ControlEnhanced dissipation efficiency: MSI has fitted Twin Frozr coolers with the all new Airflow Control technology which guides more airflow directly onto the heat pipes by using special deflectors on the heat sink. In addition, this exclusive heat sink design increases heat sink surface area, greatly enhancing the dissipation efficiency. |
Supersu PipeEnhanced dissipation efficiency: SuperSU Architecture is the best cooling solution for graphics cards. The GPU is cooled by a massive nickel-plated copper base plate connected to Super Pipes (8mm heat pipes) on the MSI GAMING series graphics card. Additionally, the new heat pipe layout increases efficiency by reducing the length of unused heat pipe and a special SU-form design. |
Zero FrozrSmart cooling, stay quiet. MSI’s Twin Frozr V Thermal Designs are equipped with ZeroFrozr technology which was first introduced by MSI back in 2008. ZeroFrozr technology eliminates fan noise in low-load situations by stopping the fans when they are not needed. Compared to other graphics cards, there is no continuous hum of airflow to tell you there’s a powerful graphics card in your gaming rig. This means you can focus on gaming without the distraction of other sounds coming from your PC. |

As far as I can tell, it's a rebadged gaming 4g msi 970gtx however with a backplate.
The backplate keeps a little extra heat in, however is more aesthetically pleasing and means that the card as a whole is more durable.
No coil whine for me. I scored 1918 in the heaven 4.0 benchmark with only minor overclocking for extreme settings, and as a whole I was extremely impressed with the speed of the card for the price. Even with multiple monitors, 1080p doesn't need a more expensive card than this one, my game experience of witcher 3 was very pleasing. I can only speculate on 1440p however the reviews seem to rate that this card can run that resolution quite well as well. Forget about playable 4k on this card, although in sli you might be in luck with g-sync to eliminate tearing. The card supports g-sync although I didn't have a g-sync monitor to test that, I've read that it works well with it.
Pros: Perfect 1080p performance
Runs cool even overclocked. My temps maximum were between 70-75 degrees celcius with 21 degrees room temperature
Direct x 12 support
Backplate included for durability and aesthetics
Doesn't draw much power, can run well on a 500w power supply, although I updated mine to a 750w soon afterwards to make sure that I had enough wattage
The green is actually quite pleasing in person, and is much better looking that it looks on a computer screen
Fans on 90% manual mode for overclocking purposes not too loud and barely audible otherwise
Cons: Backplate heats up the card a little more than a standard gaming 4g msi 970 gtx
It's quite long, so make sure you check the dimensions of the card and your case before purchase
Some people may complain that it only has one display port out, one hdmi and the two dvi types
Apart from that it's a great card and excellent value for money !!!
When I purchased the MSI GTX 970 4GB OC edition, it was already almost a year old. I often wait to get cards until after they have been out a while and the prices have dropped. This card still performance at a very high level for almost all new released games. I can set most games to high/ultra setting at 1080p and stay around 50-60fps. I can do many game at high at 1440p and also get very stable frame rates. Great card for a great price.
One thing to be aware of, this card is BIG! I have a full sized ATX case and this card barely fit. It is very long and the end of the card came within a few cm's of my hard drive bays.
MSI make excellent cards and motherboards, and this card is no exception. The design and build quality is exactly what I have come to expect from them. The performance of this card shows the GTX 970 cards still have a lot to offer for high performance gamers not looking to break the bank. I do wish it could handle VR gaining slightly better, but then I had no intention of buying an Oculus when I purchased this card. Considering that, I think this card is fin for the early VR games currently available. As more demanding VR titles come out, I will probably upgrade to a GTX 1070.
Pros:
• Great value
• Awesome driver support
• Good overclocking capabilities
• Great performance, even on newest games
• Ability to do 1440p gaming (2k)
• Handles VR on Oculus better than expected
• Good heat handling
Cons:
• Can get a little loud
• Less of a value compared to GTX 1060/1070
• Occasional stutters when used for VR
This card really fit the ticket. It replaced a rather loud and toasty Radeon 7950, and helped push up frame rates by 50% - 75% in newer titles. Dragon Age Inquisition ran noticeably smoother, and Shadows of Mordor seemed worlds better with a more stable framerate of 60fps or higher. Wolfenstein: The New Order seems to run well over 60 FPS and with reductions in blurring, my reaction time has been so good Nazi Germany has no idea what hit them.
The card crushes titles a year old or more, and with the high refresh rate of the monitor, the responsiveness of controls has been a joy. Sonic Generations runs well over 60FPS and the actual responsiveness of my setup makes the game seem much more enjoyable than the console counterparts. With the reduction in motion blur, high response rate and high FPS, it's been a treat.
This is my first Nvidia card and i've noticed a few things.
1. It runs quieter and cooler than my Radeon 7950. But that's to be expected given how new the 970 is. Nvidia touted the cooler technology as well.
2. The bundled software seems cleaner and easier to use. Geforce experience settings are nice and helpful for properly tweaking game options for my card. The actual driver options are clean and simple to use. ATI's were bloated and cumbersome.
3. I can play games in full screen now. Not windowed mode, which caused micro stuttering on every single ATI card I ever owned. The 4800, the 6800 and the 9500 series cards all had it.
4. It's more expensive than ATI. But the above 3 notes should begin to explain why.
.
This is a great card. That's all I can really say. It really makes consoles like the PS4 look very dated just over a year into their release. The 7950 I had already was beefier than anything Sony or Microsoft put out, Nvidia just takes it to a whole new level. Gamers of all stripes owe it to themselves to explore the quality of PC gaming, and this is a great card to take the plunge with.
Top reviews from other countries
Twinfrozr V is a really good technology as far as cooling goes. It always runs cool and quiet, never kicked in at 100% if not of the stress tests I did.
The MSI gaming app is pretty junkish and gave me a bit of a nightmare with incompatibility issues when it was open, but that's not why I bought the card so I just don't use it now and I'm sticking to 5 stars
I am able to get stable frame rates on ultra in Battlefield 4, Far cry 4, Ryse: Son of Rome...You name it. The dual fans also keep the card cool. In idle it is currently 22C - and while playing Battlefield 4 I never saw I reach above 60C.
I used this card for my first PC build and it was a breeze to install too! I highly recommend to anyone willing to pay the extra money.
