My setup is as follows:
AMD A10-7800 at 65W TDP
Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B
ASRock FM2-A88X-ITX+
8GB Samsung Green RAM at 1866
Samsung 840 Evo 250GB mSATA SSD
Silverstone ST30SF 300W PSU
Lian Li PC-Q01A mITX Case
I ran before and after benchmarks to compare the A10-5700 to the A10-7800, and results were interesting. Heaven showed a 23.5% increase in GPU power, Cinebench R15 gave a 10% increase in GPU power, but a 10% decrease in CPU power (could have been a margin of error), and 3DMark gave an incredible 57% increase in overall performance! I take synthetic benchmarks with a grain of salt, but it's obvious that the iGPU is MUCH more powerful in the A10-7800 relative to the A10-5700, which is exactly what I was after in the first place.
The next test will be to try cranking the RAM up to 2133 and retesting, but I'll save that for another day.
What I can definitively say, though, is that this CPU is a pretty decent upgrade over a 1st gen FM2 CPU if what you need is low power consumption, low heat output, enough CPU performance to do typical HTPC tasks, and one of the best iGPU's on the market. You won't be playing Battlefield 4 or Metro: Last Light at 1080p with maxed settings, but if all you do is lightweight, low power gaming, this is the CPU you need.
I use it in my budget gaming pc, i actually used its integrated graphics for gaming for a couple of months, i could play all of my games at 1280x720 at low/medium graphics, some games run good at that resolution, others struggled even at that resolution. Now i have an amd xfx r9 380 gpu, all my games run much better now, 1080p gaming at 60fps it's no problem.
It has a 65 watts tdp, which means it doesn't use much energy. The included cooler is a little loud but you can configure fan speed in mainboard's bios to make it silent, if you want better acoustic and cooling you will need a third party cooler, but the included one just works fine.
Very happy with APU gaming performance.
Plays Team Fortress 2, Bioshock 1 and 2 cranked up all the way and Bioshock infinite on medium with no lag.
CPU performance is on par with any modern chip for everyday tasks. Obviously, CPU intensive programs and esoteric high math demanding applications may very well bog it down, but for general desktop computing you will be very happily satisfied.
