About The Display

The MG278Q Gaming Monitor is specially designed for long marathon gaming sessions. Its slim profile and super-narrow bezel makes it perfect for almost seamless multi-display setups. The MG278Q represents a new generation of displays, with a WQHD 2560 x 1440 panel with a pixel density of 109 pixels per inch. You get to enjoy greater image detail and more onscreen desktop space. These little details add up to help you better immerse yourself in the game.

With a 1ms response time, ASUS MG278Q is the fastest in its class and eliminates smearing, and motion blur. This visual performance lets you react instantly to what you see onscreen, especially in fast paced games – allowing you to take corners like a pro race car driver, or get that headshot like a seasoned pro.

With an astonishing 144Hz refresh rate, fast moving visuals pose no problem for the MG278Q, so you can say goodbye to motion blur and gain the upper hand in first person shooters, racers, real-time strategy and sports titles. MG278Q features G-SYNC Compatibility – it eliminates screen tearing and choppy frame rates to give you seamless visuals and smooth gameplay.

ASUS MG278Q features the ASUS-exclusive GamePlus hotkey to give you in-game enhancements so you get more out of your game. The crosshair overlay with four different crosshair options lets you choose the one that best suits the game you're playing. There's also an onscreen timer you can position on the left of the display so you can keep track of the elapsed gaming time; while the FPS (frames per second) counter lets you know how smooth the game is running.

ASUS GameVisual Technology gives you six pre-set display modes tailored to suit different types of scenarios. This unique feature can be easily accessed through a hotkey or the On Screen Display (OSD) settings menu.

The ASUS MG278Q has a wide selection of connectivity for WQHD output; including dual-link DVI, DisplayPort 1.2, and two HDMI ports for the high-speed gaming connectivity you expect and two USB 3.0 ports for quick battery charging for your mobile devices while gaming or even an alternative fast signal transmission for your gaming display.

The MG278Q also comes with the ASUS Ultra Low Blue Light filters to protect you from harmful blue light. You can easily access and select four different filter settings onscreen through the OSD menu to fulfill your different scenarios.

Flicker-Free technology reduces flicker to give you a comfortable gaming experience. This minimizes instances of eyestrain and other damaging effects when you're embroiled in long, drawn-out gaming sessions.

    Good display, Bad panel
My original review was denied for some reason with the vague reasoning being "It violates the tos and we can not post it", we re-read the review a couple times and did not see where we violated it. Aside from saying that Asus quality control seems to be lacking and I got a bad copy of the monitor the review was fairly positive.Anyway, I have since had the monitor replaced through amazon and got a second copy. I had the same issue with a horrendous color shift in the bottom right corner and very noticeable back light bleeding in the top left corner and bottom right corner. I don't know if I am just picky but I ended up sending the second copy back for a refund and picking up the LG 34" IPS 2560x1080 144Hrz model instead. While I love the pixel density of this monitor the colors are just too noticeably off when sitting next to my 4k IPS monitor. I haven't had a VA panel in a while and thought since I was just using it for gaming that it wouldn't bother me, but it did. It also had a really bad yellow tint across the whole panel (both did). So lets get to the pros and cons.Pros:Price, got it for only 479.99 (I see the black Friday deal is at 379.00)144Hrz and 1ms response timeAmazing picture quality and pixel densityVesa mountableInternal power supplyAgain 2560x1440 res, Its a great res for gaming and a GTX 1080 is more than enough to take advantage of the 100+Hrz refresh rateEasy to navigate menuCons:VA panelTerrible color accuracy and contrastContrast shifting in bottom right corner of screenBad back light bleedingThe preset display modes are not good at allPrice, I know I am contradicting myself here but after purchasing this monitor I saw all the deals from MSI and HP OMEN and even the Acer Predator's coming down. I guess it was just bad timing on my part?TL:DR, If you can get past the absolutely terrible back light bleeding, and the not so good color of this VA panel then this monitor is amazing. If you are like me and are a stickler for these imperfections then go with the IPS version or go with an LG. LG has never let me down with monitors, there QC and panels in general are always near perfect.

Expected better for the price. Bought this since no other brand was is in stock ( benq / AOC). Fair amount of backlight bleed and very bad viewing angles which are further exaggerated by the 27 inch screen so close to your face. Freesync works fine. Learnt to ignore the backlight bleed by keeping the lights on in the room. You would not notice it during gameplay or bright content. Plenty bright for a monitor.
Nice features like fps counter, quick menus and freesync help ease the pain of blowing 40k on this monitor
