Hefty Price for a solid product
The unit I got is pixel perfect and worked with little to no setup with my graphics cards.(got mine straight from amazon warehouse)I got one from one of the more RECENT batches that came in around Jan. 4,so maybe they have resolved whatever QC issues were going on with this monitor.Beautiful screen.Put it side by side with my vs-278Q (which is a 27" 1080p IPS panel) and this monitor looks amazing.Colors are a little faded in comparison, but still beautiful, and the higher resolution more than makes up for it.Comes in an enormous boxI will do an update later to let anyone interested know how this unit holds up over time.Update:5 Months later this monitor still has me geeking out about how pretty and smooth it is. Its holding up well with 10 hours of use a day or more. I haven't had any more backlight bleed than I have had with any other LCD (monitors and TVs), nor does this monitor get any hotter than other LCDs I own. I think the reason people are noticing the heat of the backlight is because of the thin bezel on this monitor.I've been reading all of the concerning reviews on this product that are here on amazon, and it seems like most have responses from asus customer support, so I don't understand why people think asus isn't standing behind this monitor. If you have an issue with the product it is covered by a 3 YEAR WARRANTY. Need I say more? Asus stands fully behind their products. It is an $800 monitor... ok... so what. It is 27" and 1440p with a 144hz refresh rate and a g-sync module. Not to mention it fits into a very niche market. If you buy a 27" 1440p panel that would cost $450, and if you buy a 27" 144hz panel that will also cost around $400. Then if you want either of those features with g-sync you can add another $200 to the cost of the panel. This monitor is currently $750 and it includes all of those features in one package, so you could argue this is a bargain. It's going to have the same issues every other monitor has with defects (like dead pixels) and possibly more due to the fact this is the first to be released with such serious hardware to manage the pixel clocks necessary to keep this panel stable.I love mine and everyone who sees it is seriously impressed with it I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I had the need.Side Note: To fully utilize this monitor I would have to recommend no less than a dual gpu computer with SLI 970s at the very least. I have SLI 780 tis and they still chug hard to feed this beast (overclocked around 1150Mhz). I get in the low 50fps range for Witcher 3 and depending on the BF4 map I get 90-144fps on medium settings. This monitor basically doubles the load on your GPUs, however when you are running at 1440p everything looks so much clearer, and while medium textures may look pixelated from 1 foot away when you look at them from 5 ft or more in 1440p its pretty outstanding. I have a cheap 39" 4k tv (cost me $340) and to put the clarity of this monitor in perspective 1440p at 27" is the same pixel density as my 4k tv. So imagine 4k tv, but smaller and insanely smooth.

Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2015
Edit: Idk why Amazon turned the pics sideways. They're fine on my computer. Sorry. Anyways, they are there to show backlight bleed at factory settings which was bad, then with the brightness at 44, which is about normal, and it's gone.

Got my monitor yesterday, was worried it would arrive with problems. Soon as I turned it on, I checked it on the black screen for dead pixels and found none! Then checked for stuck pixels and found none! I was then very satisfied with the build quality. Checked out the backlight bleed and it was pretty bad at factory settings at the bottom of the monitor. After I put in some calibration settings, and dropped the brightness from 80 to 44 (it's a very bright monitor) the backlight bleed was non-existent and uniform. The stand came all assembled together, I just took it out, stood it up and plugged it in. Will be mounting to an ergotron arm, but if I didn't have it, I would leave the stand. It looks really nice! G-sync only works in fullscreen mode, which kind of bummed me out when I found that out, but doesn't really matter, because once you experience G-sync, it's unlike anything you've ever seen in gaming. There's no screen tearing, even on small objects like boxes. It looks like I'm playing a screenshot.

You'll need some hardware to really take advantage of this monitor though. At least a 770. Gsync will make 40fps feel like 60fps, it's so smooth. I have an i7 4790k, dual GTX-980s, 8GB of RAM.

Next to my 1440p Viewsonic VP-2770 IPS, it holds up well, but lacks the blacks of the IPS. If there was a gamma feature on this monitor, I'm sure I could dial it in even further. One review I read, had this monitor beating an Overload Korean IPS monitor in tests! I believe it was an e-IPS. My Viewsonic is an S-IPS I think. It's high quality.

Even though they just announced the ASUS ROG SWIFT 4K IPS 60HZ version will be released later this year, with a window of July-September, I still opted for this one. I will probably also get the 4K version, because I have the graphics power to drive it and the build quality is just fantastic.

Pros:
+1440p
+Build Quality is superb. Has to be seen in person to understand.
+Red ring on base of stand that can be turned on and off.
+Easy to navigate On Screen Display.
+Ultra Low Motion Blur
+Gsync does everything that Vsync does BETTER, without input lag. It's just glorious, if you've always hated Vsync (even if you like it, it still does Vsync's job but BETTER) but had to deal with screen tearing. That whole problem is now eliminated.
+1ms response time. In comparison to IPS, which at best is usually 5-6ms (new 4K IPS 60hz Swift to debut this year will be 5-6ms.) Response Time affects the amount of blur the monitor produces from changing colors.
+Super thin bezel makes this thing look as premium as it's price tag.

Neutral points: 8-bit color TN panel. Could be argued either way. It lacks the depth of IPS, but holds it's own well against it. Viewing angles are not a problem for me, even at this screen size. It's not your average TN panel. Can also be argued TN is better for fast paced action games, because it has faster response time and thus, less motion blur on the image.

Cons:
-Availability. When I build my PC back in September, this monitor was scarce and there was a lot of paranoia surrounding it. I just now got my order in, when they became available. Seems the newer batches are fine and getting way better user reviews.
-Can be argued it's not an IPS, but that's ok with me. It's way better than your average TN. Don't listen to people that don't own the monitor. They are just talking nonsense.
-Gsync doesn't work in windowed borderless mode YET! I believe they are working on solving this problem.
-Only ONE input and that's Display Port. So if you plan on using this monitor for something like a video game console on the side, forget it! I still have my Viewsonic, and hopefully the NEW Swift to release this year has multiple inputs.
-Price is steep, but for what is in this package, it's not that bad. People crying about the TN panel just don't understand. It's TN but it's 8bit color. You're paying for the resolution, build quality, size, and gsync (most of all. I believe this little module runs $200 itself. They are working on getting that price down, but it's in such a high demand, it's hard to.)

Conclusion: Terrific monitor. I was scared ordering one, but I don't believe I can go back. This is THE definitive gaming monitor on the market at the time of the review. There are some monitors coming from competitors, like Acer, with 144hz IPS gsync, but it's not really an IPS panel. It's an AHVA panel. Do your homework on these monitors! I STILL am totally satisfied with this monitor based on it's build quality ALONE. I was on the fence about the 4k IPS they have coming this year, but I'll definitely be getting one, maybe a few months after release like I did with this monitor.

ASUS is a big company, with a lot of business, in comparison to other companies. They thus are going to have more negative reviews because they are moving more product. I've heard bad stories about their customer service, so if I were you, I would try to purchase the amazon warranty with this monitor.

UPDATED REVIEW: 2/11/16
I received my new ROG Swift on 1/29/16. The return and refund from BuyVPC was fast and easy, and in fact I purchased the replacement from them as well. This time everything worked as it should, no dead or stuck pixels, this monitor is amazing! It looks gorgeous, the adjustment for height, tilt and swivel are remarkably smooth and the controls for on screen setup are placed comfortably. The set up menu is easy to navigate and the controls are simple. Everything looks fantastic on this screen. Now the primary reason I bought this monitor is for gaming and that is certainly where it really shines. After having it for only about two weeks now, I've put in some serious hours of gaming with it and now that I've experienced G-Sync I don't think I could ever go back to a monitor without it. I could blather on about how awesome this monitor is, but it simply does everything is says it can do as advertised. It's a shame really that it's possible to receive on that's defective, but that goes for any electronics. Even though I had to return the initial purchase, I do not regret my decision to buy one bit. Yes, it was disheartening to have to problems with the first one, but in the end it's totally worth it. The ROG Swift lived up to all my expectations.

OLD 1/20/16:
I just received my ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q monitor today, and it's a bust. The entire left side of the screen either has vertical lines or some crazy color banding (see pics). I was aware of the issues this monitor is prone to having, although plenty of users have no issues so I went for it. I started my return request today so I can exchange for another (hopefully working panel). Everything I've seen and read about the Rog Swift was enough for me to forgo my caution. In general I love Asus products and have been using there motherboards, graphics cards (just got the strix 980ti to go with this monitor too, thankfully it worked out of the box as expected, its a beast) and monitors trouble free for years. this is the first time I've gotten a dud, hence the 1 star which I'll happily change once I get a working Swift.
On a side note, Ive never actually had to rma anything since first pc build back in 2004 so this will be a new experience. Guess my luck finally ran out lol. But after going through the steps provided all I got was a return/refund option? Still have to wait on the approval from the seller. I don't actually want a refund, I want to return this one in exchange for another working monitor. Guess I'll have to see what options I'm given when I hear from the seller. I'm not sure how this process actually works. Will update my review when I get it replaced.

I've had problems with Asus monitors in the past. I've had to exchange my previous Asus monitor twice due to defective pixels. When I ordered this one I was expecting to have to RMA it at least once, but to my surprise and joy, the monitor was flawless! This monitor features a high quality TN panel that displays colors and contrast beautifully. It's crisp, it's clear and it's FAST! The G-Sync makes camera movement enjoyable and the Image OverDrive feature does a pretty good job at reducing motion blur while G-Sync is enabled. A pair of GTX 970s or a single 980 Ti is recommended if you want to play your modern games on Medium video quality settings and maintain a consistent 140+ Frames Per Second on 1440p. This is an expensive monitor but definitely worth it if you're a serious gamer! I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor. Bad speakers.

Display is excellent. No dead pixels on arrival. Good response time, great for gaming. Brightness is very good, i turn it down to 50% for regular use.

Screen doesn't rotate on the base left and right. When you need to turn it, you turn the base as well. Tilts up and down well.

Sound system is HORRIBLE. If you are looking at this product because it is speakers + monitor, then you are at the wrong place. Do not buy this because it has a speaker. I do not even use it. I tried it once and never again. Sound is weak, volume isnt that easy to adjust. You have to reach over.

Never tried the scene features. I just use default which is fine.

Doesn't come with a HDMI cable, which is pretty standard for all screens. You get a DVI, VGA and speaker cable. Use DVI if you can, don't use VGA.

Just don't buy this for the sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hasta ahora todo bien.

Pro: Va muy rápido la imagen, el 3d vision funciona muy bien ( es mi tercer monitor 3d vision).
144hz, buen brillo y bonitos colores.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was fortunate to recieve the first PG278QR in Canada

I was fortunate to recieve the first PG278QR in Canada. It is much like this Q, however is 165hz compatible. Very impressed with this monitor, not only does it perform like a beast, the exquisite red glowing ring around the base is an excellent addition to your custom build or ROG themed system. There is confusion on panel type and without going into that I'll just say the picture is fantastic, the thin border edge makes it a perfect monitor to pair, and also can change to tall rather then wide very easily. A must have for the hardcore or enthusiast alike.
