Easy to assemble but that's about it. For beginners? Not a chance. (UPDATED)

Easy to assemble but that's about it. For beginners? Not a chance. (UPDATED)
This printer was one of the easiest to assemble I've ever had. Anycubic does a good job of making that part easy for beginners, for sure. However, as far as the printing goes, that's a different story. This is not my first printer and I was looking for a bit of an upgrade from my previous Anycubic Mega S printer (which I liked very much). I was intrigued that this printer had automatic leveling which was something that frustrated me about the Mega S. And yes, the automatic leveling is great, however, the ridiculous Z-Axis calibration is a massive pain. It is a deal breaker. I have tried everything, watched every video, tried calling support, read articles about how to get those first few layers to stick and come out correctly. I tried for three weeks and was left with not one single successful print, NOT ONE! I end up with one hot plate of PLA spaghetti every time. I even thought that maybe the extruder was faulty and wasn't pulling in filament properly thus sending in for a replacement. That replacement was just as bad if not worse. I have never been so frustrated or disappointed with a product. What a waste of my time, effort, and money.Update (6/23/23)After contact with the customer service department, I have finally found the secret to a successful print. It all has to do with the Z-Leveling adjustment, especially with the Z level sensor! I was sent a prior unseen video that fixed the problem and worked perfectly. I am now able to complete my prints. And yes, they do look great! I do feel that while this is an upgrade to my Mega/S that I had prior, there is still a big learning curve before being able to print. I still have some messed up prints, but now that I know how to fix it via the leveling process, the solution is easy and quick to complete, although annoying. Having made some successful prints, I do worry a bit about the Direct Drive extruder. There have been a couple of instances where the filament will not go in properly or get jammed while unloading. If you are a first time printer owner, make sure that you are willing to reach out to customer service in case problems arise. I would like to think that my problems were isolated, and do feel that the Anycubic Kobra Neo would be a good way to get your feet wet into 3D printing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice low cost direct drive with good support
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2023
This is a very good printer that’s slightly above what I’d consider to be entry level, but was sold at the typical entry price point when I bought. The direct drive extruder, double sided magnetic PEI build plate, and auto leveling functions are very well done. I have never had a printer that auto levels as consistently as this one. They do need to provide a cleaner way of setting the Z-offset, though, as the only way I could find to get the print head moving with the ABL compensation loaded was to start a print and adjust it while the skirt was printing. After that I was able to print multiple prints without touching ABL or Z offset again.

I had some out of the box issues related to the wrong build plate being sent in the package, and some under extrusion issues, but their support was really responsive and got new parts sent out quickly.

I think it would help quite a bit if anycubic would include some better cura profiles. For example, I found that their default retraction setting of 6mm for their PLA profile on this direct drive printer was way too high and would cause empty spots anywhere retraction occurred, so I had to reduce that to around 1-2mm after a lot of testing to resolve those issues.

They also don’t provide great guidance or procedure on how to adjust the tension on the direct drive, so I just had to keep adjusting the screw back and forth until it seemed right.

The only downsides for me are the top crossbar being plastic, and the display being a little more basic and lacking functionality that I’d like to have. Otherwise I like it, like that their support answered tickets and provided resolution, and I would buy one of their printers again next time I’m shopping for one.

1.0 out of 5 stars False advertisement, bad printer, clogs regularly, now a paperweight in under 6 months. Bad!!!
Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2023
At first I was wondering if I was too hard on it, yeah the creality printers are better but with a lot of experimenting I finally had it working, that lasted a month. As I mention later on, there is no way to level the bed and the laser level doesn’t help. Once it gets off a little bit there is literally nothing you can do to fix it. All 3d printers break down eventually, then you see if it’s cheaper and easier to fix or replace parts. Well this one broke and unless I take it 95% aperture, there is no chance of fixing it. Even with completely taking it apart I can’t fix it with standard parts, it’s not set up that way. Can’t just buy a new print head like I’ve done to fix a few others, it doesn’t have a piece where you can disconnect it. (It might but if so it’s in the power supply box.) I really regret keeping this printer, I was really hoping excited about the direct drive, too bad the rest of it is pure garbage. Take away the one good thing I said about it. I’d rather spend an extra hundred dollars and have a printer that’s last 10 times longer. The one good thing about this printer is the price at 190. If they are charging more than that just get an Ender 3.

First complaint, it doesn’t print at 100mm/s like it claims, it doesn’t even print at the 70 that it’s calling a slow printer. It prints at 50mm/s that’s half the speed it claims. How do I know, I asked them how to get the speeds they claim and they said they don’t recommend that and said I should stick to 50. The instructions on how to get it going are terrible and misses steps. For example, it tells you load the filament auto level. If you follow those instructions you will get a mess. Instead you need to remove the filament before doing the level test. And that auto leveling, it barely works too. You might think after you auto level it, that means it should print well. Nope. You then need to level it yourself afterwards. Even then it’s not quite level, and at that point there is no more adjustment you can do because it doesn’t give you the option to do a true manual level

This is a terrible starter printer. Any decent starter printer will come with the settings needed for the Slicer(program that converts models into info for the print) when I ask about theirs, they said go with default settings. Default settings are for printers with Bowden tubes, not for direct drive. You want the right settings, you need to figure that out for yourself. I honestly regret getting rid of the packaging and not returning it. Worst 3d printer I’ve owned
