I'll first explain the main thing I'm very picky about when it comes to optical switch keyboards, that can make or break a keyboard for me no matter how good it otherwise is.
I primarily do very hard challenges in precision platformers and play osu!mania. As a result, I'm part of the subset of people who perhaps benefit the most from the lowest latency/fastest/most consistent hardware. For the things I do in platformers, I need to be able to consistently do inputs of at least as low as 2 frames (so at least as low as 16ms-17ms). I was surprised to find out that pretty much EVERY other optical switch keyboard was capped at a minimal input of 22ms-28ms (this effectively makes it so that about half the time I do the lowest input the keyboard is capable of, it will actually output as a 3 frame input). The reason I liked the Bloody keyboards was because they had no limitation and were able to do inputs as low as 1ms, giving me full control. The Z20 can do inputs of as low as 1ms just like with Bloody's optical switches, which is more than good but doesn't really matter because anything below 15ms is essentially useless.
The second thing I'm picky about when it comes to optical switch keyboards is how low the travel distance is. Ever since I experienced 3.0mm travel I pretty much can't go back, at least for the keyboard I use for osu!mania; travel distance makes a huge difference for speed and stamina for rhythm games, or really any game where you need to mash as fast as you can. The Z20 linear has a 3.0mm travel, which is incredible not only because I feel right at home again, but because SO few other brands offer that, Bloody being the only other one up until now as far as I'm aware. For other games low travel distance isn't really important, but it's nice to know that I'm not really limited in how fast I can press buttons.
My thoughts on all the other personally less important miscellaneous things about the keyboard that I can think of:
- keypresses are just as responsive as I've experienced with other optical switches, very low input delay
- 45g actuation force is great for mashing speed/stamina; I wish brands would make switches with lower actuation force but as far as the main standard values go this is as low as you could ask for
- I like that the keys feel softer to press and have lower clack pitch than the Bloody B820 I used before (typing doesn't sound like a rattlesnake to Me LOL)
- 4000hz doesn't really matter for the games I play
- don't care about special dedicated hotkeys or media buttons
- the Top Sensor feature is cool but not really important I feel
- there is some key ping, but I can't hear it with headphones on, and otherwise you kind of have to be listening for it
- I don't usually use wrist rests, so I can't tell you how good I think it is. All I can say is that it's soft, squishy, and made with leather material.
- RGB looks nice with the side bars
- RGB software is more limited than others, but I'm fine with any of the default rainbow effects. (it's at least not as bad as Bloody's software lmao)
The Z20 is basically a keyboard that functions the same as the Bloody B820 but feels better and has a lot of added features that may or may not matter to you. Nonetheless it's the best keyboard I've used so far, and I've used a lot. If you're thinking you want a keyboard like this but don't want to totally break the bank, I'd recommend just getting the Bloody B820.
EDIT 9/3/22: this is now significantly cheaper than the Bloody B820, just buy this if that is still the case.
The keyboard has many different lighting effects that are simple to switch through and adjust brightness. The TOF sensor allows the lighting to turn off when you step away and welcome you with animations (set using the EVGA Unleash RGB software) when you return. I believe it can also be set to lock your PC or put it to sleep when you leave and unlock or wake it when you return, but I have not used that function. You can even create custom lighting effects, assigning colors and effect to individual keys, that will remain active as long as the software is minimized to the taskbar.
The keyboard includes many useful features. The 3.5mm headphone jack passes through to the microphone and headphone connections on the PC, so you can simply plug a gaming headset with a common 3.5mm TRRS plug into the keyboard. The keyboard also includes USB passthrough. This is great if the USB ports on your PC are difficult to get to, or if you just want to plug in a wired game controller every now and then. Please be advised, in order to utilize the USB and 3.5mm jack passthrough you will need to plug in the keyboard's 2 USB plugs and 2 3.5mm plugs. The keyboard will function normally, without the passthrough features, if you plug in only one USB and no 3.5mm plugs. I assume that a second USB is required for the passthrough since the keyboard is already drawing ample power from one USB port to illuminate the LEDs and communicate with the PC.
There are easily programmable macro keys along the left-hand side of the keyboard that can be assigned to easily execute shortcuts that would require multiple key presses, or that are difficult to remember. The volume wheel is conveniently located on the top right corner, above the mute and multimedia keys. It is easy to find in the dark due to it's corner location, textured surface, and wide footprint.
Overall, there are a lot of great, easy-to-use features on this keyboard. It is a nice looking keyboard with a magnetically detachable palm rest. The keys are quite loud, however.
Now the bad part. The software for controlling the lighting is horrific. Seriously, I don't think I have ever run into a single keyboard that gets this right. It seems like a very simple concept, just make a small application that lets you adjust lighting. No, this software is over a gig in size for some reason and constantly chews up CPU for no reason, even when it's just sitting in the background, it's quite bewildering that they found this acceptable. With that being said, you might think, well I just won't run the software! Which you can do that, but not if you want to control the RGB at all. This keyboard has no hardware profile option, so you are stuck with the few preset options that it comes with unless you install and constantly run the software. It's incredibly strange that flash memory has become super cheap, but keyboard manufacturers treats it likes it's as expensive as an HP Inkjet cartridge.
Top reviews from other countries
The colours are vibrant and bright and the keys have been responsible. Actually - my only complaint would be that the keys are a little TOO responsive. It's taken some getting used to for my pressing habits. Even the slightest touch on the keys can lead to mistypes. This I feel is a bit of my fault, but also something that could be improved with stiffer switches.
Nonetheless, I love the feel and, for the price, you really can't go wrong! I actually wish I got a 2nd one when it was on sale!
PS> The "UNLEASH" software does NOT work on a Mac. I had to download 'Parallels' to run windows if I wanted to get super customized options. For me, the built in colours and patterns are fine, but for some, this may be a deal breaker.

Likes:
-Optical-Mechanical key-switches that should outlast Electro-Mechanical switches by miles and miles
-As of the latest firmware it saves profiles and RGB effects (at least the preset ones) without needing the software running once configured
-Works on just a USB 2 port (somehow - I've had trouble in the past with 'some' RGB keyboards despite being designed for a USB 2 connection, and this plus having Optical switches is just sweet) and software is light and still updated as of writing on Windows 7
-Includes normal keycaps without bumps in the box along with a palm rest even if I don't like/use it
-Solid packaging
Dislikes:
-Some switches are less smooth than others and a bit of wobble
-RGB isn't as nice as it could be because of the off-center LED and opaque switch body
-Keycaps feels closer together than they should be due to the keys being less tapered and rounded than regular keyboards (could be solved with time or new keycaps); also, not very confident on the media keys being durable, but eah
-Could've used more macro keys like my last keyboard, but the main 5 are good enough I guess
-Not a fan of floating island keys, but it is what it is.
