First, the unboxing…As usual, Jackery takes great care with the packaging of their products. The PowerBar came in an attractive, sturdy box, with excellent internal support for the product. And, it included some useful instructions, which is unusual these days.
Charging up… The PowerBar came charged at 50%. I connected the supplied charger, and about 4 hours later (give or take) it was fully charged. Not bad for such a high capacity battery pack.
The physical unit…This is an attractive, albeit large battery pack, with smooth curves and nice cosmetics. The grey and orange color scheme is good looking, and the various features (ports, display, on/off button) are logically laid out and accessible. But, considering the fact that it offers basically the same power capacity as the Jackery Thunder X or Titan, it is quite a bit larger than those packs. I suppose the circuitry to provide an AC power source takes up the additional space. It is fairly light weight too – around 2 lbs.
Use...Using the USB charging ports was very similar to using them on any of the other Jackery battery packs. They worked nicely, and don’t really need much explanation. The AC outlet however is an unusual feature, and in the case of this battery, the main feature that sets it apart from other battery packs. Note - the AC outlet is not grounded – it has two prongs only. There is a hole in the battery pack allowing you to plug in a 3 prong power cord, but that 3rd prong is not connected to anything. I guess this might be due to the fact that the battery pack, unlike a real AC supply, has no “earth” to connect a ground wire to.
The real test...charging a laptop. My first test was with a Chromebook. I ran my Chromebook battery down to 10% overnight, and then connected it’s AC adapter to the PowerBar. After pressing the power switch for 2-3 seconds as indicated, the display indicated it’s initial 100% capacity level. After a couple of hours, my laptop had reached 95%, and the Jackery still had approx. 40% of its charge remaining – pretty good! I can see this coming in handy when attending all day meetings, flying long distances, or just being out and about and needing to keep my laptop going.
This battery is not just for charging laptops of course. It can be used to power AC powered devices when an outlet is not available. Of course, there is a limit to how much current the battery can deliver – you can’t power a refrigerator – but as a utility outlet for lights, and other smaller electrical devices, it could be a great camping buddy, etc.
Summary...The main purpose of this larger-than-typical battery pack is to charge / power laptops and devices with similar current requirements via the AC outlet, and it does that quite well. It can also be used in more traditional charging situations, like for tablets and smartphones. I do wish that the battery capacity had been much higher perhaps around 40,000 mAh would be better for such an application, especially considering the size of the battery pack. But overall, I think Jackery has a great idea here, and it has a lot of potential (maybe a PowerBar+ could be developed with increased capacity). But even in its current form, I think Jackery has another great product in its already extensive battery pack line of products.

POWER, we all need it, especially when we can't have it. How many times have you been out at a tailgate, or out camping and your phone is running low on power? No need to answer that question, as it happens to everyone. Wouldn't it be nice to have power on demand to power your phone, laptop, or other appliances? The Jackery Explorer can give you the power you need.The Jackery Explorer is a power block that can charge up to 4 devices at one time! It has charging hook ups for: (1) AC, USB, USB-C and Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0. With these different hook ups you'll be able to charge any of your small appliances. It gives off 75 watts an hour of electricity with its ultra high capacity battery. It weighs 1.5 pounds and is easy to stash in your bag when you head out.I got my Jackery Explorer in and took it out to Sedona, AZ on a recent trip. I took this through airport security and on the plane with no issues at all. I like how it has multiple hook up's, so you can charge a variety of devices. Obviously ,what I need this for the most is my phone and laptop. It can also come in handy on an airplane to power a laptop if you need to work and they don't have any power hook up's by your seat.When you first get the Jackery Explorer, you hook it up so it can charge it's high capacity battery and then you can see it will state 100 when fully charged. When you power the device on there is a quiet hum that you hear and then know its fired up.During the tests I did it with just a cell phone and it fully charged it up in less than an hour. Then I hooked up 3 devices and all were powering at the same time. The Jackery is a little too big to go into your pocket, but if you have backpack or something similiar it fits in quite nicely.
