They check all the boxes for me :
* They're cheap
* The image looks good to me
* The design is neutral and minimalist (I can't stand the typical gaming monitor designs. They look like they're made for teenagers)
* Ideal for multi-screen:
* Pretty thin borders around the image
* Light for the screen holders. The plastic does feel cheap, but it might contribute to the lightness. This is more important to me, so I'm happy.
* Nice curvature. It smoothens where the screens touch.
* The higher refresh rate feels great
I can't compare this to other similar monitors due to not using any others.
Ghosting: none noticeable. The specs say 4 ms refresh time. As far as 4 vs 1 ms, the 144 Hz rate vs 50 Hz still improves the overall frame response time.
Looks: who cares. Its appearance is very nice
Menu: Standard monitor adjustments (color, contrast, brightness, etc) and some more. Samsung upscale makes it look pretty good. Freesync works with Nvidia GPU.
Stand: Perfectly fine
Overall:
5 star for picture quality. Colors are fantastic, contrast is amazing. Backlighting is pretty good. can't provide exact numbers for color accuracy, but is way better than previous monitor.
5 star for value for money. Really impressed and got it for $300 US
5 star gaming. 144 Hz at high resolution.... nice!
Fantastic monitor, definitely 9/10 would recommend. Nice and simple appearance, performs exceptionally, cheap-ish price. No obvious downsides
Other:
There was 1 dead pixel 8 pixels from the left panel.... doesn't matter. Never notice it
It offers almost no adjustment, so keep that in mind. Another thing to note is that I can’t seem to find the actual response time on anything, but that is a tune-able setting in the UI using vague terms like “fast”/“very fast.”
Most importantly is that the ports on the back seem like an afterthought in quality. I couldn’t fit my AC plug into the monitor without applying what seemed like too much force. So for two days I hobbled along too afraid to break anything and it was still working if I didn’t hit my desk and jiggle it out. So yesterday I had time and liquid courage, I flipped it over to confirm that there wasn’t anything in the plugs way, and braced the top of the panel on my desk-sized mouse pad and pressed hard. Voila! The plug went in and for the first time I could game in confidence! But the pressure I had to exert still makes me cringe, I’m hoping it gets to the sweet spot after being fully inserted once.
So my real question here is does Samsung even turn these things on for Quality Control? And if so, what kind of wire are they using to test the power? I would hope they use the one packaged with the product because in all reality that part can fail too. And if it takes two shots of vodka to ease the stress of simply supplying power to an expensive piece of tech, it should come with two shots of vodka in the box.
The next part may just be a me problem, but for my PlayStation Pro I can’t use the native resolution.
I will update if anything changes!
