I really wanted to spend far less than I did on a keyboard. A peripheral is a peripheral, after all. They are designed with eventual failure in mind to get you to buy more hardware. You usually look forward to replacing a keyboard every two years or so and therefore look for a lower priced product to keep from spending an arm and a leg on an inferior product.
Well. I checked the reviews on a number of sites I use to keep in touch with various hardware items as I love building my own PC's and weighed the pros and cons of a lot of keyboards. I didn't even have this one in mind when I got down to ordering. Then I figured maybe I should be looking for something that has a slightly longer expected life span and higher use out of it.
The biggest thing with keyboards is: Membrane vs Mechanical. Membrane are cheap. Really cheap. They lack all of the tactile feedback of a mechanical keyboard however and are far far quieter. They are also essentially disposable and a pain and four-fifths to clean. Why not keep your desk neater and cleaner then? Its not about how fastidious you think you are or are going to be at your desk, there is still the eventual hair and dust that get beneath the keys that has to be cleaned out. A herculean task with a membrane keyboard as the keycaps are not really meant to be removed on most. With a mechanical board, the caps come off easily and in fact the key-switches can be replaced frequently.
So, I decided on mechanical. Then you have to consider the switches.
On a keyboard, the switches are the lifespan and the comfort and use of the board. Having a switch with the right amount of travel, the right tactile feel, and the "clicky-ness" is difficult to judge online. This product contains the "white" series switches which are just the right amount of tactile, clicky, and not nearly as loud as many other mechanical boards. You get nice solid feedback with each keypress, a small "click" and the key springs back wonderfully under each press.
None of that touches on any of the other great features of this board. I'm not a huge fan of the RGB craze that means that everything has to rainbow sparkle under your fingers, your palm, and from the case beside you, but when the letter on the keyboard glows and the backlight is behind it makes finding a particular key when you are not as sure so much easier. The keycaps feel strong and show no sign of chipping or peeling like some other cheap painted keycaps.
The aluminum body feels solid and rigid. Strong enough to type in the lap if you feel the need instead of having to be placed on a desk all the time. The long braided cord reminds me of cables for my other items of a similar manufacture which resist tangling, twisting, and early breakage due to flexing or being kept coiled up.
The only issues I had stemmed from the drivers for the board. It contains a roller switch which is programmable but when I plugged it in out of the box it kept triggering the system volume and keeping it moving in the last direction it did move so that it was hard to adjust or deal with. A quick driver install later and the board is functioning exceptionally. The included software with the driver allows for quite a few light and pattern changes which I have not even begun to explore.
I have definitely fallen for this keyboard more than I thought I would. It is a most excellent addition to my pc set up.
For.me, it has the perfect tactile touch, and has a slight click, but not too loud. The key lighting is programmable for any game and it lasts a long time. I had one of these for years without any problems, and the lettering on the keys does not wear out.
There are several really great lighting schemes that come with the keyboard and more can be downloaded either for a favorite game or just to look great.
My previous keyboard (I repurchased the same one) lasted until a wildfire took out our neighborhood just after Christmas. After a lot of hard use, it was still rock solid with no discernable wear.
Update to original review as of 6-20-19:
So after owning this keyboard for about 5 months now I have a few things I wanted to throw out there in hopes it helps someone. I don't usually use the volume on my keyboard since I have an external dac and headphone amp. However I did eventually try out the volume wheel on this keyboard and it didn't do a thing. I wasn't too concerned since I don't typically use it, but I feel everything should work 100% paying this kind of money for a keyboard. Also of note, Media keys were not working either. I sent an email to Patriot today and to my pleasant surprise they got back to me within a couple of hours! They wanted me to hard reset the keyboard, and what do you know, it fixed the media keys and volume wheel! I had originally tried updating the firmware thru the software to no avail, so I didn't have high hopes of the hard reset doing anything. So to anyone that has this issue, hold the viper key down (right function) and the pause\break key down until the keyboard flashes. And that for me did the trick. Also one other thing, I know for whatever reason, the print screen button will go solid white as if it's not working with the rgb. Well actually it is, if you hold the viper key down and hit the print screen button it'll turn it back on to match the rest of the lighting. I believe that when it's white, it's in gaming mode... Not 100% sure, but that's how you fix that going solid white on you. And there ya go, my only 2 issues I've had, and I wouldn't call them issues so much as poor documentation. Big ups to tech support from Patriot, and I still am in love with the box whites for everything. Great keyboard, highly recommended!
Final review 8-28-20
So after working from home with this during the lockdown, the noise is just too much. Finally started driving me nuts. Not the keyboards fault, as I wanted these keys, and I love them. But they're just tiresome to use all day everyday with other people in the room like kiddos in school. And the stabs in this thing are pretty awful. They're super rattly. I have since upgraded to a drop Cntrl for gaming and just got a hyper x alloy origins yesterday since I wanted quiet linears for everyday use. Both of those boards cost a significant amount more, so not a super fair comparison, but they're definitely nicer to use and feel more quality. This was and is definitely a fun board to get into mech keyboards, but as you move up they just get nicer. If you like loud keys that sound and feel great, the box whites are a real treat, if not, look elsewhere.
Update: 7/7/19
Still works very well. I see a number of other reviews say their volume wheel doesn't work. That's a shame, mine works fine! I also want to add that the onboard RGB controls are an awesome feature! You don't have to open any software to change effects, speed, or brightness since there are dedicated key combos that do it as well! I'm still trying to figure out some of the features though. What exactly does game mode do?! Overall I love this thing, great keyboard!

This keyboard was bought on a bit of a budget, because I was just tired of constantly replacing expensive keyboards... What I received surprised me. I've had this keyboard for over a year now, and it has the same qualities as if it were brand new!
Granted, I had to RMA they keyboard at one point in time, due to an issue, but Patriot support blew me out of the water with how helpful they were! I had my keyboard back within the same business week, and they apologized for the delay! DURING COVID LOCK DOWN!
I can't praise the keyboard and Patriot enough for this product - Coming from a guy who says everything these days are built with planned obsolescence.
This is the only mechanical keyboard with a good water/dust resistance rating (IP56). The only other keyboard which has water/dust resistance is the Corsair K68 (which is more expensive than this), but that only has IP32 protection which is not as good as IP56.

1. The F9 key RGB lighting is completely different from the rest of the lighting theme. I didn't notice this until a full 15 days after i bought it. Tried ignoring it as the functionality of the keyboard isn't affected.
2. The ENTER key cap on the number pad keeps popping off despite me making sure that the metal spring bars are clipped into the keycap. Very irritating when that happens. I have learnt to hit the key vertically to avoid popping that cap off.
3. The software to update is buggy as hell. I don't know if my keyboard is updated to the latest firmware or not. Janky to say the least.
Since I have gotten the bad things out of the way, let's look at what's good with the keyboard.
1. Excellent feel and very comfortable to type on. For a guy who has severe finger pain due to typing a lot, this is very welcome boon.
2. No key has crapped out on me yet after several months of use. No false presses, unresponsiveness or anything else.
In summary, go for it if you have the dough. Love it.
