This was fun to build. I have been delaying building an iTX PC based for gaming for quite sometime since the reliability and performance/features compromise did no justify it. But in the past 2 years or so the technology has greatly improved and now iTX motherboards are on par with most desktop ATX counterparts. The ASUS Z270i iTX board which I have used is in fact better in direct benchmarks amongst a few Z270 boards as reviewed by a few tech sites around. This board is very high quality and great thoughtful design targeted for iTX/SFF cases. I'm using an M.2 drive and the heatsink is a welcome addition and also the on board audio is astonishingly VERY good. I've had this motherboard for over the a month and now I feel I can give a better hands on overall experience so far:
PROs
---------
> Generally well thought out design and placement of fan headers
> Good VRM implementation
> Great on board audio performance
> Very detailed and intuitive BIOS interface
> Great performance and overclocking potential
> Out of the box support for XMP based 3000Mhz (and beyond) DDR4 memory
> Great value for money considering the feature set and other mini ITX motherboards of similar calibre
CONs *mostly nit-pickings here*
---------
> DVD for installation software and driver - its 2017 and you would wonder why manufacturers still prefer DVDs? especially for mini ITX motherboards where the target audience are SFF builders, they would not have imagined a DVD drive even in their dreams to consider it on their system
> Out of the box WIFI driver can be problematic (windows 10)
> VRM design is good but not great as their last gen, Z170 impact ITX
> Like me, if you download the drivers from ASUS website, some software and drivers such as Suite utilities can be a pain to install
Well most of the CONs for a advance user like me are really nit-picks but I can understand if these may be a serious concern for others. Wifi related issues can be solved with their latest drivers, I would also like to suggest people is to experiment with different channels especially if they are using 5.0ghz. Most of the wifi dropouts can be solved moving into the least occupied channel.
For this price point I do not see any other Z270 iTX motherboard having VRM design better than this STRIX one so ofcourse Impact is still held in high regard over here and also it was a more expensive motherboard than the normal 'i' series of last gen.
If you do download ASUS utilities software from website on a windows 10 PC, make sure the files are unblocked which can be done through file attributes properties

I'll be honest. I bought this board for two reasons:
#1, it offered RGB lighting options. I'm a sucker for lights in a PC, and it started over a decade ago with cold cathode tubes in a time when cases weren't readily available with windows in them. I had to take a dremel to my own case and put my own window in it! The RGB options mean I don't have to choose a single color light, and I can change whenever I feel like it. So happy with this feature, and it's very easy to change.
#2, mini ITX. I wanted to build a small PC that would take up less space on my desk. I game a bit, but I've never bothered with dual GPU's and loads of other features in my computers. This was quite simply among the best boards available with RGB lighting in a mini ITX size. The performance of it and the over-clocking potential just means I'm ready to go over the next few years should I ever feel the need to upgrade the CPU.
The built-in WIFI works very well. I didn't need to install the included antenna to get a pretty strong signal. RAM installs easily. There is space for M.2 SSD's if you want them. I went with a standard SATA SSD, but it's nice to know the option is there. There is a header for USB3.1, but it's using a unique connector which I believe is not yet defined as a global standard. Good luck finding a cable / connector to fit it right now, but it'll be there for you in the future.
The USB item does bring up my only complaint, but it was easily solved. There is ONE other USB header on the board. It is USB3.0. It is the old / standard style connector. It is backward compatible to USB2.0. I needed to connect the front case USB and also my NZXT Kraken liquid cooler. I was required to purchase a USB splitter / Y-cable in order to connect both items. Not a big deal, but slightly annoying not realizing this in the first place.
Pros/Features :
1. Supports the latest Intel 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors
2. All black design is great to look at
3. Supports 64 GB DDR4 RAM with 3866 MHz XMP profiles
4. RGB lighting is cool
5. Stiffened PCIe slots prevtn bending of graphics card
6. Has headers for 5 fans and one AIO pump header for water cooling
7. SLI/Crossfire compatible
8. Asus Aura when linked with a n ASUS VGA card and fans makes the whole set up look amazing
9. Intuitive and easy to use BIOS
10. Retails for less than $200
11. 2x2 MIMO AC wifi (Max speed 867 mbps) is a breeze to use and is very stable
Cons:
1. The IO shield can be tricky to install, have to push very hard to get it set in
2. Extensions on the IO shield can prevent proper use of the USB 3.1 port and HDMI, make sure to bend them before installing
3. Possible quality issues, had to return my motherboard initially because two RAM slots were non functional.
4. Could do with more RGB LED zones especially on the ROG logo
5. Only 1 USB header, wont matter to most people since there are sufficient USB 3.0 ports (IMO!)

No había instalado algún programa extraño.
For this build I had a few requirements, I needed a Z270 chipset as I will be overclocking down the road. I needed a minimum of 3 4-pin fan headers, a Wi-Fi card, support for at least 3000MHz DDR4 RAM, and at the minimum 1 m.2 slot, USB 3.0 and 3.1 headers, and lastly a neutral color as it was to go in a white build. Surprisingly this really only left me with 2 options, this Asus ROG STRIX Z270I Gaming motherboard, and MSI’s Z270I Gaming Pro Carbon AC motherboard. With few differences between the two I went with my longtime favorite Asus. My last ITX board was the Asus Z170I Pro Gaming and I absolutely love that motherboard so I went with what I knew would be awesome. Also, I have only exclusively bought Asus motherboards, and not because I don’t think the other manufacturers are capable of making a good motherboard but Asus motherboards always seem a bit better equipped over the competition. I also have yet to RMA a single motherboard of the 8 I have bought from them.
So no surprise here, but I love this board! It has dual m.2 slots, one of which I have already occupied, and plan to fill the other slot as well in the future. One of the 3 4-pin fan headers is specialized for AIO pumps, a huge reason I also chose this board (but can be used for a regular fan as well). As I plan on running a custom water loop in this build down the road. Some of the other key features include RGB and a RGB header using Asus’s Aura Sync, for those of you into that kinda thing, Bluetooth V4.1, a reinforced PCIE 16 slot, one USB 3.1 front panel connector, a SupremeFX audio card, and many other features.
I currently have an i5-7500 processor sitting on this board, but by the end of the summer I will have my i7-6700k from another build moving into this system, which I will be overclocking. This is done easily through the bios settings and once XMP is enabled it’s easy to overclock your CPU and/or RAM. This motherboard can overclock DDR4 RAM to 4266MHz, but I just have my 2 8GB sticks of white Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM running at its rated speed of 3000MHz with no instability issues. The Wi-Fi card and antenna are of high quality and this has the strongest Wi-Fi signal and download/upload speeds of all my devices, including a new 2016 Dell XPS13, very impressive! I also am a big fan (pun intended) of Asus’s AI Suite III software that allows you to use Fan Xpert 4 software to set custom fan speed profiles and control your fan’s to the precise RPM you want (only with 4-pin PWM fans otherwise it’s just voltage control) and it works fantastically! It’s a significant upgrade over Thermal Radar 2 which was a bit slow and had its bugs. I am quite pleased with it!
Overall this motherboard is well built and the software Asus includes is fantastic. Your motherboard is the ‘body’ of your build so make sure you buy something with the features you want and one that is well made and reliable. I can speak for this board in particular and say that it’s everything and more that you expect of an ITX motherboard being sold in 2017. It is packed with great features, looks good, and functionally performs just as good as an ATX sized board that quite frankly 75% of custom PC builders out there do not need. So for those of you interested in this product I can highly recommend it!
