Enter the Turtle Beach Ear Force Elite 800x Headset.... these things are AWESOME. I was slightly concerned that setting up the headset would be difficult with my current audio setup, but it was literally plugging in 3 cables; 1) USB from the included transmitter to the XBOX One, 2) Optical cable from the XBOX to the transmitter, and 3) Optical cable from the transmitter to my amplifier..... that's it. The setup couldn't have been easier and the results are sheer audio pleasure. I would HIGHLY recommend that you update the firmware on the included transmitter to fully open up customizable audio options for your headset. This can easily be done by visiting the Turtle Beach website and following the step-by-step instructions.
The audio quality is tight and distortion free even at the higher volumes and comes with various presets depending on what type of movie or game you are using them for. All of these presets can be adjusted on the fly using either the touch sensitive buttons on both of the ear cups, or by using your phone or tablet with the Elite Audio Turtle Beach app. Personally I prefer the app as it is MUCH easier and slightly more intuitive to use.
The ear cups are comfortable for long gaming sessions, but the headset is slightly on the heavy side and can result in a pressure point on the top of your head, but I only really have an issue with this during marathon sessions of 6 hours or more. Charge time for the internal battery is quick, and lasts longer than expected.
Overall, the best thing that I can say about this headset is that it has replaced my Klipsch home theater setup for the majority of my gaming and solo movie watching needs. I am FINALLY able to get that fully immersive experience, and it has made my digital media consumption THAT much more enjoyable. In my eyes, the price is ABSOLUTELY worth the money if you use movies, TV shows or video games to unwind after an exhausting or stressful day. Treat yourself and get that movie theater experience without ever leaving the comfort of your own home.
I really like the fact that you can adjust how loud you own vice comes across in chat or even shut it off completely. I love how as you cycle through the various settings the head actually states the setting you are on. No more counting the beeps to figure out your setting! The caring cradle works really well and the head set fits securely, just be sure to push the ear cuffs in and it will seat every time. Two months in at this time and I can’t find any issues with this head set the materials and construction seem durable and well built.
The pros
*The headset feels premium. It's got a nice, "expensive" feel. Cool packaging, the wireless receiver stand is durable.
*The headset only sits on the charging stand in a certain direction, but it typically fits right in without a struggle.
*The headset, when it actually works, sounds amazing. The DTS surround sound is fantastic. Note, that this headset does not support the Dolby Atmos app/support that you can purchase on the XBOX store.
* Not having a mic sticking out and having it be internal is pretty cool. No mic to distract you. However, it was a hit and miss in terms of quality. Sometimes my friends could hear me fine, most of the time they said I sound "kinda far."
* The headset has an obscene amount of sound settings. From gaming, to music, to movies, to superhearing mode, etc. Each setting has additional settings within that setting. For example the gaming setting allows you to choose first person shooter, footstep focus, etc. It's cool, but can be very overwhelming and tedious. Particularly when you're making these changes by having to repeatedly tap the button on the ear cup.
* Bluetooth works like a charm. You can pair the headset to your cell phone, or whatever device, and listen to music, take a phone call, etc, while you simultaneously game. Flawless connection and set-up.
The cons
Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros.
* The first and third headset had problems staying connected. (The second headset was bad out of the box) You'll be playing, and chatting with your friends and it disconnects from the wireless terminal for 5-10 seconds at time, leaving you with not sound, before repairing itself again. This happens constantly, every 10-15 minutes or so. I endured it until I could endure it no longer.
*Second issue, if you wear it for more than an hour or so, your ears will hurt. It's a tight fit, and the leather ear cups don't help with the comfort. You'll get a headache or your ears will hurt after prolonged use. I would have let this go if it wasn't for the technical issues.
* The buttons on the headset are not physical, but touch sensitive, so obviously they are super sensitive to touch, so barely touching one with your finger will press a button and change a setting, causing some minimal frustration. For example you'll turn on noise cancellation by mistake instead of turning off the headset.
* Unlike the lower model, the Stealth 700, which supports mobile app use for customization, for some reason this model does not sync with the Turtle Beach Audio Hub app, so if you want to make detailed modifications to the headset you have to plug it into a computer.
* I swapped the headset for a second one thinking the disconnection issue might have been an issue with the particular headset. It was not. The second headset I received did not work out of the box. The left ear cup had no sound. I contacted Turtle Beach like the box states. "Please don't return to store, call us first." Turtle Beach got back to me in 4 days, although they say 1 business day when you submit a ticket. The representative, surprisingly, told me the warranty process takes much longer than returning to the store, so he suggested I return it to Amazon. What horrible customer service for a $250 headset. I returned it to Amazon for a replacement. I tried the third headset for a bit and became frustrated with the disconnection issues and the microphone and comfort, so I decided enough was enough and returned it. Never going to buy another TB headset again.
I purchased the Arctis Wireless Pro and have been extremely happy with it. It was made for the PS4, but works just fine with the XBOX if you don't mind using the XBOX app/bluetooth to party chat or the included cable to plug into your controller. The Arctis is super comfortable, reliable and sounds amazing.
Anyways that's my two cents. As someone who has tried three of these same headsets, I would NOT recommend it. Learn from my experience.
