The loot box controversy was the best thing for this game, because it dropped the price to $40. The game still has its quirks here and there, sometimes you still feel like it's a Pay-to-Win, but DICE and EA have tried to fix it by making rewards for completing milestones better, and you can redo them when they come up as daily challenges. Plus you get a daily loot crate with one card, 75 credits, and 15 crafting points, which helps.

I still miss the game mode from the OG Battlefront II where space battles included the extra option of boarding enemy ships and destroying them from the inside and out. It's probably to reduce possibility of spawn killing. Maybe it will come back in the free expansions.

I also wish that Multiplayer Arcade Mode included Starfighter games. I love the Starfighter gameplay and being able to practice it with friends in Arcade mode would be awesome! FIX IT DICE!!!

Overall, I like that it is going back to the original class based system of the OG Battlefront games. The loot crate system has its pros and cons, but if you're just playing for the fun of it and you complete the Milestones in the game, you can close the gap between yourself and Pay-to-Win players pretty quickly, and you'll be a better player by the end of it.

As of now, I'm greatly disappointed in how this game was handled, even more so with how the Devs and frankly Disney are handling this entire situation. Don't do what I did, for I bought it. If the game becomes truly good and consumer friendly which:
A) unlikely to happen based on the AMA from Reddit.
B) if it does happen, could take several months to a year to fix all the issues.
If you were keen on buying this game, do not buy it, or wait up to several weeks/months/year to buy it.

What would make this game a 4/5, or dare I even say 5/5 Stars if they made it a Free-to-Play, which its how its set up, [or if they removed the poor system in-place]. This game is set-up like many mobile games, and Free-To-Play games. If it were Free-To-Play, I would have no issues with the system they have in the game. Yet I paid around $60 for it, some folks paid even more. So that hurts a bit when you wanted to play as Darth Vader, only to find you can't, and you have to grind several hours to unlock him. This game had such a huge potential, it was on the cusp of greatness, and it's a well made looking Star Wars game too! So many factors how this game could be a 5/5, yet they decided to bog it down with several issues resulting in a poor rating.

This is a great example of, "Buyer Beware"

This game more or less needs a Page-1 Rewrite on the progression system, if that occurred, along with removing the loot boxes, and micro-transactions this game would be amazing, but sadly with how EA handles their business practices, this game will fall in the annals of history as a real disaster. It could have been the greatest game this Winter or even this year, but it will be remembered as the opposite. I believe in hope, that this game could be great one day, but that time is slowly dwindling down, and 0 hour is approaching faster each day. Also now with all the talks of gambling, which these loot boxes more or less are slot machine style games, I would be careful if I were a parent and I got this game for my child.

Edit 1:
EA just made a dramatic change, they have disabled micro-transactions for now, for this I shall give them two more star. My main stance still stand for now, just be aware of what is going on, and watch your money.

Edit 2:

After playing the game heavily during December, I was rather fond of it. My main points still stand, but so far nothing too bad has happened to make me want to get a refund. There have been a few updates to the game so far, and a likely rewrite of the progression system in the next large update, likely to come out sometime in Feb. 2018. I've enjoyed the gameplay for the most part, and only encountered annoying players a few times. The only bad thing is that the match making is a bit strange, and you are either in a team who is way too good, or you are going against a team that is way too good. Only been in a few matches where both teams are equal in skill set, and those matches are amazing. Since the game is usually around $40 now, I would say that is a decent price to buy it at. The star cards are also not game changers for the most part. I didn't really use them, and getting new ones is really easy as well. I rarely get lootboxes with the in-game points, since you get a free one daily. Also they have not turned on micro-transactions last time I played, which was in middle January 2018. So far, I am tempted to make it a 3.5/5, but with the few issues that are still there, it will remain a 3/5.

The gameplay is really fun. The story is amazing. It adds to the Star Wars canon. Arcade mode is very fun although I haven't played much of it. The micro transactions are annoying but you don't have to buy them to play the game. Yes it gives other players a little bit of an advantage but that doesn't mean that it makes them amazing at the game. So it basically depends on why you want to buy the game, mainly for the story or for multiplayer.

This games progression system is not tied to skill, but how many lootboxes you get. It was worked out that a player would need to grind for about 4500 hours in order to unlock everything. The progression system is purposefully set to push people towards buying lootboxes as its not skill based: It doesn't truly matter if you get 1 kill or 50 kills, you're getting roughly the same low amount of credits. The scrap that you can collect is designed to be an impractical way to progress, as I would need to grind for 30 hours just to get 600 scrap gun. With each match earning only about 200-300 credits, it would take many hours to get one single Trooper Crate to roll the dice with the hopes of getting something worthwhile. Even worse there are limits in terms of how many credits one can get in Arcade mode per day. In other EA games like Battlefield, more experienced players can unlock a variety of weapons, items, and perks, but generally, they add gameplay styles, not mathematical advantages. But every single Star Card and every bump in a Star Card's tier only adds boosts to each class' default loadout, with only a few of these fairer "mathematically equivalent" unlockables. As if that wasn't enough, your ability to unlock two extra card slots in the game is based around reaching a certain card level, only achievable by obtaining more cards. Battlefront II seems adamant to disregard the value of players’ time, demanding a huge amount of commitment for rewards that feel wholly insignificant for the investment required to earn them.
