Great Cherry MX Red keys, not so great on everything else
    5 Stars
Great Cherry MX Red keys, not so great on everything else
Cons:1. Flakey, slow Corsair software.2. Only three manual brightness levels. They say 4, but one of those is off.3. Space bar has wear through the black paint after a few months of use (see photo). The spacebar is the only key thats textured, oddly.4. Plastic kb casing face comes close to the outer key boundary, so pulling the outer key caps is interfered with by the casing.5. Caps Lock key is always lit, the on/off indicator is an LED bar on the upper right. There are three similar lit indicator bars (num-lock and scroll-lock) so there is no way to know which of the three are lit up.Pros:1. Although plastic, the kb has a sturdy feel. I would guess there is a metal plate inside. The long keys--return, shift, etc.--have good feel and sound to them, other manufacturers use cheaper supplemental key guides, giving the long keys a cheap feel. The space bar does sound and feel cheap.2. This paragraph applies to any Cherry MX kb. This kb has that silky smooth, very solid Cherry MX Red feel. I love linear Cherry MX Red keys, but some find them too soft at only 45g actuation. The disadvantage of the soft touch is a higher rate of typos. You'll get more accurate over time as a result. If you like a smooth, non-tactile feel (= no stroke bump/notch and no audible click at the beginning of each keystroke) Cherry MX Black keys are 60g non-tactile linear keys, and the just released "Nature White" keys have a 55g non-tactile stroke. To me, black is too heavy, so I live with a little higher typo rate. Nature White keys availability remains limited. Red keys are on the quiet side of the mechanical spectrum, because there is no notch and no audible click. The only sound comes from bouncing off the back-plate. All tactile key options are louder than Red, including Brown, which is a similarly soft 45g version of tactile key variants. To make choices even more complicated, rubber O ring kits only cost a few bucks and are easy to install for those who want to quiet the board a little, or to slightly reduce the length of the stoke. In either case, try Nature-White or Black before installing O rings to Red, since it make the keys even easier to press down to the bottom.3. Has a USB port. The downside is it takes a second USB connection to use, so it is effectively useless.4. Nice clear professional font is large and easy to read. Too many Cherry MX Red kbs are targeted at young gamers who like spaceaged fonts that suck for typing.5. The non-shifted key options are also backlit, though less brightly. Because Cherry keys each have their own LED near the top of each key mechanism, the top half of each key is more brightly lit than the bottom half. Most keyboards take the cheap way out, and paint the shifted-key symbols on without light pass though - so you can't see the shift options at night. This kb lights the top half of every key directly, while the shifted characters are also transparent so they are lit indirectly. This is great at night. One downside of modern mechanical lighting is the LED is at the top of each key. This leads most manufacturers to invert the shift character position compared to "old fashioned" keyboards, so the shift function actually selects the bottom symbol on each key. At least Corsair is consistent, always shifting to select the bottom key symbol. Many manufacturers allow shift to choose the bottom of some keys while shift still chooses the tops of some lesser used keys, even within the same keyboard layout. Others choose to lay the shift options keys out on the left-right instead of top-bottom. I like this kb's layout the best.Overall - the board is priced well and the Cherry MX Red keys are great for non-tactile heavy duty gamers who need soft keys to survive intense sessions, and maybe even better for typists who prefer a silky smooth linear stroke where the only sound is a bounce off the back-plate.

Built in gaming profiles are nice. Adds a lot of flair to gaming by highlighting keys for individual games. Out of the box it worked quite well, i didn't have to add any game profiles or anything, the one i was playing was already in their database of games so it picked it right up.

Now, how useful is the keyboard lighting and such for gaming? Not very, i doubt people are staring at their keyboard while they are playing but, its really cool and was worth it to me. I don't mean lighting as in the keys being different colors, i mean lighting to tell you what is happening in the game. Such as the keyboard blinks when you get in a fight, and the individual keys flash when powers have recharged, my health bar runs across the F1-12 keys and decreases as I take damage and increases as i am healed.

That is all out of the box functionality, no tweaking involved.

    Keyboard mechanics:
I have a Logitech keyboard with their Romer-G switches that i use for work and then this one using RX-Cherry sitting right beneath it.
    Build Quality:
I find the build quality to be very good, better than my Logitech Orion G910 Spark which i replaced it with. Sturdy, no rattling, The wrist rest is detachable which is nice.

Packaging: It came with some gaming key replacements that add a little texture to the keys so you know when you are on the correct keys "WASD" and some others but i didn't put those on. It came with a keycap remover which was really nice and worked well.

Mechanics: The key actuation for the MX Cherry switches is about twice the Romer-G switches. What i mean by that is I have to press the key down twice as far before it will register they keystroke but that is in line with what i've seen with all the MX key products as far as reading reviews on them. What does that really mean? It means the Logitech Romer-G switches are faster. It did not take me more than a day to adjust to the longer key strokes and now i don't even notice.

Sound: Don't kid yourself, these things are not quiet. Reds are supposed to be the more quiet ones because they don't make the clicky sounds like the blue switches. They are not as loud as my Romer-G switches and it has a bit of a hollow sound to it but i think that is because they keycaps are physically larger so there is more space for the sound to bounce around inside the key.

Ergonimics: This is the same as any other keyboard i've ever used. Only ergonomic keyboards are ergonomic. I don't consider this a negative.

I would definitely recommend this keyboard to anyone.

I'm writing a review on the Corsair STRAFE mechanical Red Cherry MX keyboard

After updating my old motherboard I found out that my Steel Series (never by from that company, their FAQ for trouble shooting is worthless) APEX keyboard refused to work with my new ASUS mobo. Half of my custom built computer is Corsair (Ram, CPU color, power supply) so I decided to add another great Corsair item to the rest.

This keyboard is amazing! The cherry switches are great for FPS like Corsair says and the fact that they give you gripped keys to replace the WASD keys or if your into MOBAS they give you an additional Q and R keys. They are very easy to remove and a key cap remover comes with the keyboard. The key response in game is great, after testing it for twenty minutes I didn't find a problem with the keys contacting and my character moving like they are supposed to.

The gripped keys are wonderful added accessory, I play a lot of Overwatch and it helps me find my keys since I did not keep them at the default keys the game sets. The gripped keys have raised angled ends (W on top, S on left side, D on right side) so it is easy to tell when you are on the correct key if you aren't paying attention to the grip feeling. The raised edges don't get in the way if you are typing also which is wonderful since I type pretty fast.

The keyboard has the option to turn the red back lighting complete off and if you chose to turn it back on it give you three degrees of lighting from dim to super bright if you play in the dark.

If you are unsure on what keyboard to get or if you don't want to buy one of the more expensive keyboards from Corsair or any other brand out there I would recommend this one. No matter what keyboard you buy from Corsair its going live up to your expectations hands down. Corsair is a great gaming brand and I won't buy anything outside of their brand ever again. My next purchase will be one of their gaming mice if mine ever quits out on me.

The only draw back that I could find was that because it is a mechanical keyboard with raise keys when you type it can be rather loud but if that doesn't bother you, I could care less, then you will love this keyboard.

I needed a replacement for my current RGB keyboard. I was looking for a keyboard with brighter RGB, easy to press buttons that have the right amount of click and resistance to them and some added quality of life buttons - like the volume control and mute, quick change RGB setting, USB port. This is a very satisfying keyboard to use, it feels great, not to mention the light is twice as bright as my last one and has great custom settings. The wrist rest is good to have plus you can remove if you wanted. I want to give my opinion on the reviews stating the keys pop off or this arrives with the keys falling all off inside the box. Mine arrived with a few keys off but they were very easy to put back. It comes with a key remover piece and additional textured keys for W A S D E R F Q if you want to change them. The space bar is also textured and I happen to like it. I think it has easy to remove keys so you can change them out for custom ones if you wanted, it in no way hinders your use of the keyboard. None of them ever came close to popping off during actual use. Anyway thats my experience with it. I recommend this if you can spare the money and need a quieter RGB keyboard. Easily one of my most worth while purchases.

Just like older versions of this model it is all I can ask of from a keyboard, it is quiet without losing the click-clack nature of a mechanical keyboard, but I like the click-clack, if you want a nearly silent keyboard this isn't it, but if you like the tactile experience of mechanical keyboard, this is it.

The keys are so soft and a gentle glide over them could trigger them whitch is perfect if your a fast tiper and a gamer. The satisfying clack of the keys as you type is really nice and the light is perfect and if you have the software from Corsair I belive you can change the patterns and colours to suit your setup.

The product quality and structure is impressive and has some waight to it my first words when holding just the keyboard with one hand were "Damn you could kill a man with this" of course jokingly, but in all seriousness the buld quality is amazing and the fact you can also remove the keys to replace them is a really nice touch.

This brings me to the slight souring of the review. Due to poor shipping when it arrived a few of the keys had popped out rather through the poor handling from the courier service or sadly to the slightly poor packaging. However the customer service was grate and the have been responsive and apologised for the inconvenience.

I was pleased with this over all responses that due to there being no physical damage to the product in part to its and I cant say it enough incredible build quality I forged any competition and was just happy with there quick response.

Over all the product and the customer experience with there seller five stars all the way good job guys.

I researched several mechanical keyboards and narrowed on to Strafe MK2 & MK2. The difference between the two is full aluminium casing that Mk2 offers which was not significant to me and hence I opted for Strafe.
Day-1, the keyboard fell from my study table with a loud thud. I thought my experience with MK2 is over, but then I was surprised to see it standing without any scratches. I realised quickly that build quality is great as they promise.
The typing experience is splendid. Cherry MX RED are a pleasure to type. I believe one should opt for blue keys if they are are new to typing as it avoid mid strokes when you’re hitting adjacent keys.
Icue software is great, but buggy. It gives you the flexibility to configure lights and record macros or configure application shortcuts with keys. I have configured several day to day tasks such as ctrl+A, C,V and S with right unused windows, ctrl, application and alt keys.
I will highly recommend this keyboard. Be aware, it is heavy :).

Using it since June 2016 and never disappointed...coming from a 200 INR rubber dome keyboard...the worst part of the whole process was the learning curve that you have to go through to know about the pure magic that mechanical keyboards bring to you. Being a tech journalist I used to churn out 500 words every 40 minutes or so and used to work for 8-10 hours a day and the finger fatigue along with the wrist pain while using a rubber dome was too much so I had to invest and I don't regret my investment. the only complaint that I have is the fact that the textured plastic that is present on the top side of the keyboard is very difficult to clean and gets dirty quite easily...otherwise, the software experience along with the overall typing experience is just awesome. Cherry MX Reds are best all round switches according to me....MX speed is a newer tech but the extra investment that goes into it has very little ROI.

I've used this keyboard for a few weeks now and I love it. Instantly ratcheted up my game play on Battlefield 4 and now Battlefield 1. I'm really
glad I went with the Cherry MX Red switches, the keys have a nice smooth feel and not noisy at all, although still louder than a membrane keyboard. The red led function is great but I didn't really purchase the keyboard for the lighting, it looks really cool though and the effects are kind of geeky fun. I'm not entirely liking the corsair software for the keyboard but it works well enough. For general use, I like typing with this keyboard, I'm an 90 WPM typer and no complaints banging out emails etc.

WHat a great mechanical keyboard, especially for the price!
