You have to buy the most expensive model to get a useable number of ports. The cheaper model only has two USB-C ports, and one of them has to be used for the power supply, so it's like there's only one port, pretty pathetic. My cheap Windows laptop came with an HDMI port plus 3 USB ports, plus a separate input for the power cable. If you are going to dock a MacBook to a monitor, then I highly recommend a Plugable USB C Dock with Charging. Don't buy one of those super-cheap usb hubs, you won't be happy with how scarily hot they get.) Beware that if you want to drive a 4K monitor at 60 Hz, on a 13" Macbook you have to have one port totally dedicated to the monitor.
They say the keyboard is great, but it doesn't seem all that special to me, so the keyboard on the previous model must have been pretty bad.
Love the trackpad, MacBooks have the best trackpads.
I don't like the touchbar. It's a lot easer to adjust the volume or monitor brightness by holding down a FN key while pushing a button. The touchbar is really a pain in the you-know-what.
I'm not a fan of the glossy screens on MacBooks. Elsewhere, the standard for computers is matte anti-glare screens that are easier to look at without seeing reflections. Also, this "retina" screen has way more resolution than you need, the standard 1920 pixel width on PC laptops is more than enough pixels for a 13" screen. These Macs have worse battery life because they have to drive so many pixels. But colors are certainly great. There's no denying it's a great screen, but not necessarily the most practical screen.
It does a lot less weird stuff than my Windows laptop. But still not totally free of bugs.
But Mac's biggest fault incompatible it is with all the software you want to use. Not only does it not work with Windows software, that's obvious, but it also doesn't work with older Mac software such as Microsoft Office 2011. And as this is the last Intel MacBook (maybe), this means that there's going to be a whole bunch of future software that won't run on this.
Battery life is pretty good, it can last a whole day of work IF that work doesn't include Zoom meetings with video. Zoom meetings with video eat up the battery life.
Still my most favorite laptop computer ever, but annoyed about not being able to use Office 2011.
In addition, I wanted a laptop that can seamlessly sync with my phone (iPhone 11 Pro). I love that I can answer calls, respond to texts, and read emails between all of my devices automatically without having to really set anything up or picking up my phone. The screen is also one of the best to look at in my opinion.
I briefly had the 2019 entry level model of the MacBook Pro 13 with 2 ports but I quickly returned it as the 2 ports where quite limiting, I wasn't satisfied with the performance, and the butterfly keyboard was not my favorite and gave me anxiety. I am glad I waited a bit longer for this refresh before going for the higher end model as I am actually saving money as I did not have to purchase upgrades to get the 16 gigs of ram I wanted and I also get twice the storage as well which means I don't have to buy an external SSD, until I am much closer to starting creative work.
So far I am very impressed with the MacBook Pro and it is so far my favorite laptop to date solely because it works so well with other gadgets I have. The only thing I could nitpick is it still feels expensive for the specs but you get what you pay for, this is a sturdy/premium feeling laptop and blows away any of the laptops I have purchased in the past that feel cheap. If I run into any issues I will update my review but I can't wait to dive in further.
First, there's no easy unplug for the power input. That is, if by any chance you kick the power cord unwittingly, your PC is going to slide-off altogether and probably ram into something else because the USB-C connector won't detach easily as the old one, which was a magnet-based connector.
Second, you need to buy many different connectors to get everything you need: USB, VGA, HDMI... Basically, you'll need a connector for every USB device you want to plug into your MacBook.
Other than that, this laptop is outstanding, no need to say about its processing power, you can run very heavy processing software like Docker and Java and other development IDEs like Eclipse and WebStorm and still listen to some music, that's awesome!
I knew I would be amazed by its performance, but what caught my attention was its sound. The first time a listened to some music on this MacBook, that was really something. It's a very clear sound, I've never seen anything like this, great for watching movies and listening to some music.
