The regular ATH-M50 cost roughly $70-$80 in 2017. And now a bluetooth model costs about $180. Because the bluetooth needs to be $100 more. lmao.
So I wanted to try the ATH-M20xBT. These headphones are just about perfect for me at nearly every angle I can currently think of. I can literally call these "over ear" headphones because these don't press against my ears at all. The pads are just the right thickness; the contour of their design nests comfortably around my own ears. The materials don't weigh a lot, they sit light and comfortably on my head. I don't grow fatigued with them like other headphones that clamp hard against the skull. Before I knew it I was wearing these for more than an hour multiple times. They're just really comfortable to wear.
The price was on point. If you're not an audiophile and have an opportunity to buy these for $60-$70 or even less, do try them. Try not to waste your money on these @ $80+
Sound is servicable, it's good. Not top of the line outstanding quality for the price range, but if you like a bit of bass you would enjoy these. They become even better if you have access to an audio app with built in equalizer settings.
The material construction is also serviceable and don't bother with these if you dislike exposed wires, but I don't mind them. Take care of them like any other headphones and they are likely to last a while.
I have nothing but praises for these as a person with little audio technical know how who uses these on average for 9 hours everyday. But I do have a small bone to pick with the voice that plays when you click the pause button on the headphones when in Bluetooth mode. It’s always egregiously loud and extremely irritating. Having to hear a loud voice say “paused” every time you pause and “play” every time you unpause gets annoying real fast. It would be really nice if it just paused the audio with either a **quiet** beep or (my preference) no sound effect at all.
It’s very minor but it is what it is
Oh yeah and the battery life is extremely very good, I don’t think it’s ever gotten low for me. I charge it almost daily but I’ve had headphones before that can only last a few hours.
Build Quality: It really is just shy of being high quality is the plastic used. Seems like used a thinner mold of the higher priced ones, so that could attribute to the lighter, "cheaper" feel (which they are not, to be honest). The headband is solid and stiff. It does feel like the same on the higher end of the line, but very welcome. Same clamping force as the M50x/M50xBT that I own. As was mentioned, though, do NOT expect these to fold like the other brands. You do get a charging cable, and the wired cable for those time you don't need to BT connection, or just don't want to deal with charging the cans when they are low. Again, having this option was important for me, in any situation, and earbuds don't allow this.
Connectivity: Since these are pretty much newer compared to my M50xBT (not the 2), I knew these would do well. I connected my phone, tablet, laptop, and a BT transmitter to them with no issues. These paired quicker, but I'm not sure if that's because they were new and had no memory of the last connection they were paired to.
Comfort: Like I mentioned above, the clamping force is about the same as the higher priced ones, but that is very welcome due to how light these are. Not enough to say you're not wearing them, but not enough to remove them as often as you think. They are comfortable as well. I will eventually change out the earpads over time. They will eventually need to be replaced (as based on my use of the original M50. The M50x are the upgraded version of those), but that was when I was a gigging DJ, and constant weekly use. They'll probably feel like heaven when you do, but for now, they'll do for an in office setting. (My preference is the Brainwavez Perforated earpads...Do a search, they'll come up.)
Sound: I do get better sound from the higher priced models and some of the wired options Audio-Technica offers, but considering the price, that was always to be expected for these. The cans aren't going to block out sound too much (in AND out), but that is necessary for my needs in an office and being able to hear chatter or necessary phone calls to answer. It's not an issue unless my coworker walks over in the next cubicle to tell me she can hear my metal music going off!
Overall, If you're not going to use these outside of the office, or travel with these too much, they'll suit you fine. In a studio environment, stay wired (too much interference). But for simple everyday tasks that don't require you to move around too much and you just need good reliable sound, these are more than capable. I'll just need to buy a hanger for these in the office, since these don't fold (and I'm okay with that).

Battery life is rated at 60 hours which is really good., In low latency mode, my PC reported 58ms of lag (3 frames if watching video/gaming at 60fps). Without low latency mode lag was 180ms (unusable for games or watching video). Wired mode worked fine, though i wish the cable was longer for home use (it is a standard cable though so it can be swapped). Cable is perfect for using with a phone.
