Product Description
The Linksys Velop MX10600 Whole Home Wi-Fi 6 System gives you more speed, coverage, and capacity than it ever has before. Wi-Fi 6 combined with Velop’s Intelligent Mesh technology delivers true Gigabit Wi-Fi speeds, up to 5. 3 Gbps, to every corner of your home, even the backyard and outdoor smart home devices. Wi-Fi 6 also sends and receives multiple streams of data simultaneously and reduces latency, providing up to 4X more capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5 technology. So, it can handle the demands of up to 100+ devices, from laptops and gaming consoles, to smart home devices and 4K TVs, all competing for the same bandwidth. You’ll also always have a more efficient Wi-Fi experience with OFDMA that enables more data to and from your devices in a more streamlined manner. And, with BSS technology, congestion is also minimized eliminating interference from nearby wireless networks to deliver the strongest, clearest Wi-Fi signal to your home, so you won’t have to worry about your neighbor’s Wi-Fi interfering with yours again. You’ll even have 7X more battery life with Target Wake Time that reduces network interference allowing your devices to remain in sleep mode longer. The MX10600 Whole Home Wi-Fi 6 System i’s part of Velop’s modular system, so if you need more coverage, just add more nodes. Plus, set up is fast with the Linksys App, so you can enjoy the next evolution of Wi-Fi in minutes.

Spending this amount of money on WiFi is immensely ridiculous but I finally have what I ultimately wanted. This came at an expense, behind my wish to have a good reliable mesh system with WiFi 6. I then worsened that expensive initial observation by my irresistible urge to add on 2 more nodes, for a total of 4 nodes. Please note: I started with 2 nodes and added the other 2 nodes a few weeks later; it’s not necessary to set them all up together at once.
The specific thing that drew me to the Linksys MX10 was a super simple way to turn ALL of the nodes into Access Points (the parent node is not acting as a router and my whole configuration is set to operate in bridge mode). Above all, while in bridge mode, ALL nodes are reliably operating exceptionally well as a mesh system. It’s a dream come true!
Using the same Linksys app, I was able to easily add 2 more nodes, after the initial configuration of the original 2 nodes I started with; a decision I made weeks later after the initial purchase. The setup of the extra nodes can be done by going to the screen on the Linksys app that shows your currently configured network. Once here, go to the top left of the screen, tap the 3 (hamburger-type) bars, and then select Setup a New Product. Here, just tap on Add Another Node from the left menu, and the new node will be up and running in less than 10 minutes. Continue to repeat these steps for however many additional nodes you are adding. It’s been said that the Velop system supports 6 nodes; however this was something stated with the older Linksys Velop nodes. I’ve been unable to find anywhere that tells me how many nodes in total are supported by the Linksys MX10.
Comparably, when I started my search for a mesh system, I first tried out the MikroTik Audience. Given my experience with MikroTik products, I was able to get it up and running (beyond the silly quick setup utility and the awkward app). Enabling the mesh function was super easy and utilized the WPS buttons to get the units working together. But that’s where everything good stops... the newly added mesh device created itself a whole new network without copying any of the already configured settings from the primary node. I repeated the process and got the same same results. FAIL!
Also, comparably, I tried out the highly acclaimed Gryphon device. It entirely operated from the app from a smart device, and had been starved of many typical router/WiFi options and configurations. As one example, it doesn’t even have a WPS button. I soon learned that this router was significantly designed and promoted to give parents control over children’s internet access, with an abundance of restrictions. The app was a disappointment on so many levels, including the part of repeat attempts to configure everything. I lost count on how many times I had to restart the process for adding on an additional node to create the mesh system before it finally worked. The Gryphon app is highly criticized for being SLOW under its reviews in the App Store. Those reviews, are very much accurate! The app is SLOW, on top of SLOW.
Conclusively: while expensive, the Linksys MX10 is likely to be the best mesh system with reliability and yet offering the future-proofing of WiFi 6. I forgot to previously mention, the system does have a web interface that you can access locally from a browser. So the app is not your only option.
I will return, with an update, if the urge hits to go beyond 4 nodes; especially, if I go beyond 6 nodes!
Good features:
- Good performance and security
- Seamlessly integrates nodes from different product generations
- Useful App
- 5 ethernet ports on the AX5300 avoids the need additional for switches
- Attractive and unobtrusive look makes it easy to place them without disrupting decor
Could be improved:
- The App and router web interface both need debugging
- Rebooting is slow and goes through a series of cryptic light color/blink changes. Needs to be better documented and would be nice if it was faster
- The App needs to do a better job of associating MAC addresses with manufacturer/device information. Telling me I have an HP93F4B4 on my network isn't very useful
- The reset button on the AX5300 has a strong spring that makes it painful to push and hold. Plan on using a ballpoint pen or nail file
