About this item

  • The Neato D8 has 100 minutes of runtime and can cover up to 750 square feet on a single charge, but if your robot needs more time, it it can also auto-recharge and resume to finish the job. Neato works smarter so your floors get cleaned faster..Runtime : 100 minutes
  • Neato's D-shape design reaches dirt where round robots can't—in corners and along walls with its LaserSmart LIDAR technology, the same technology used in self-driving vehicles, to map and navigate your home with precision, leaving your carpets with those satisfying straight vacuum lines.
  • Clean with a Spiral Combo Brush that’s up to 70% bigger than those round robots. It’s effective on any surface—hardwood, carpet or tile—so it’s great for any home. Neato’s large dirt bin at 0.7 liters means less frequent emptying
  • Control your robot remotely through the MyNeato app. Schedule cleaning with Routines and create virtual No-Go Zones to define areas you want your robot to avoid.
  • For those extra tough areas, just shift into Turbo mode for a deep, thorough clean with extra pickup. It increases suction and speeds up the Spiral Combo Brush, getting into every last crack and crevice—Neato D8 offers 20% greater dirt pickup than D3 & D5 (tested in internal labs).
  • The high-performance filter is designed to trap the stuff that makes us sneeze and itch, capturing up to 99% of allergens.
  • Product software features may be added and/or subject to change in the course of continuous product improvement. Certain features shown may not be available at time of purchase and will be delivered directly to your app and/or robot when available.

Product Description

You can't use circles to clean a square corner. That's why Neato introduced the D-shape to the industry more than 15 years ago. That D-shape allows for a brush right at the edge of the vacuum, instead of in between wheels like those round robots. This D-shape also fits an extra large dirt bin that holds more during a cleaning session. The result? Corner-to-corner and edge-to-edge cleaning in a short amount of time. The Neato D8 has 30%+ longer runtime than the D4. That's 100 minutes of cleaning on a single charge. If your robot needs more time to finish a long cleaning run, it will auto-recharge and resume from exactly where it left off to finish the job. You don't have to babysit your robot while it's cleaning—with Neato, you can just let it run. The powerful performance you have come to expect from Neato continues with the D8. Combined with a High-Performance filter that traps up to 99% of allergens and dust particles, this is one vacuum you'll want to use every day. Switch from energy-saving Eco Mode for general vacuuming to high-performance Turbo Mode for a more powerful clean. The Neato D8 uses LaserSmart powered by LIDAR, the same technology found in self-driving vehicles, to map and navigate your home with precision, even in the dark like under furniture. Using lasers to understand where it is in your home, Neato methodically cleans from room to room in straight lines for a quicker clean, leaving your carpets with that satisfying just-vacuumed look. Worried about stairs? There's no need to be with Neato. Drop sensors automatically detect stairs to avoid falling down them and continues to learn your floorplan as you use it. Get cleaning in minutes with Neato’s hassle-free, Bluetooth-enabled setup. Using the MyNeato app, create No-Go Zones to define areas your robot should avoid like your pet's eating area and schedule Routines to clean when you want. It's an experience that makes Neato the clear choice for clean.

A scathing letter of recommendation
Gentle review readers, I write to you about Geoffrey. It is true I have sheltered him, I have provided him with googly eyes, and even cared for him with all the concern this household and its members can present. But, I must describe to you the moments of chaos and anarchy during Geoffrey's employment so that you may come to your own conclusions first.Gentle reader, you should know this vacuum is reliant on wi-fi and an app. To my disappointment, this vacuum is not compatible with my tablet which is unfortunate as I would like the children--who do not have smart phones because they would likely microtransaction themselves into the poor house--be able to vacuum a specific zone. While I acknowledge Geoffrey should not always bow to the whims of children, this is problematic and goes against what it means to be gainfully employed. It is with a heavy heart, gentle Amazonians, that I must inform you that the vacuum gets lost and tries to go through walls like an unmotivated tiny Kool Aid man. One day, Geoffrey might believe in himself and do it. All we can do here is politely acknowledge his efforts and set him right. While we all can confess to the joy of returning to the safety and luxury of the familiar, I am perturbed by the limited functionality of the map and cleaning process. I have repeatedly had a complete map, started the vacuum up to find the vacuum has worked on a 3x3 space in front of it before it returned back to the charger. But do not fret, gentle home dwellers with bits of grit in the carpet, the spot clean leaves me in a delighted state. That 3x3 space is immaculate and speaks highly of Geoffrey's five-minute efforts. (See photo 2, titled "I must stop before I perspire.")Will all the promising talents of Geoffrey, I am shocked by his distaste to cartography. His nature is such that he will oppose and sabotage his own efforts to map the home. (I say this in reference to his Kool Aid man folly I wrote about earlier.) And when he conducts himself as he should when mapping all is well, but he quickly lets his conduct slip when I turn my back! Shocking behavior indeed! Poor thing can only hold a map for so long before he forgets. I am concerned he will forget to return to his room or where it is located. Gentle vacuum enthusiasts, if you think I overembellish, I assure you that an open kitchen plan should not be such a burden. Those who have visited recently are aware that there is a step down from the hallway to the living room. Geoffrey cannot ignore the siren call of it. (See photo 1, titled "Fainting couches should be everywhere.") The shine from the tile or the edge being less than 12" likely confuses the sensors. But gentle discount hunter, I am willing to entertain the possibility that Geoffrey is aware of the chassis it inhabits and leaps off of the mortal coil in hopes that it would be reborn into a more glorious and robust form such as a Ninja Foodi or a Sega Saturn circa 1995.Reflecting on my words, it will not surprise you to know that I cannot recommend Geoffrey. He will stay with me until he receives his pension where he will remain comfortable in his dotage. This is the way of things and we will do what we can for Geoffrey.Sincerely,A household no fainting couches

I NEED A BATTERY Amazon why are you still selling these units? They are not supported anymore by Neato. Unable to get a battery for less than a year old machine. I have purchased nine as gifts throughout the years and I’m very disappointed Amazon isn’t standing behind this.
Year UPDATE: after a year of impeccable running it was time to change the battery. BE AWARE that the battery for this unit is no longer available and because you must use Neato branded batteries for performance and warranty the knock offs are not worth it. I have reached out to NeTi directly with no response which is very unusual for their customer service. Now I am stuck with a unit that does not work. This is the seventh vacuum I have purchased. Not for inferior product, but because I give them as gifts and I have them on every floor. It’s nice to have my little Rosie maintaining my areas until I can get to them with a deep vacuum about once a week. I have two puppies that shed. She keeps up with the dust bunnies very well. I cannot imagine my life without Rosie and everyone I have gotten a vacuum for in the family raves as well.

I like that it cleans well. It's quiet. The HEPA filter is easy to clean. That's all the good I have to say about it.
It wasn't easy to program. I didn't have any problems connecting to Wi-Fi, but I had to run it three times before it actually completed cleaning the whole house, created an accurate map, and returned to the charger on its own. I worked with customer support for about a month before I decided they actually weren't going to solve the problem.
It has run about 18 times. It has made it back to the charger about 6. It gets lost. When it does, it bumps into the same object repeatedly, or runs in circles. Fortunately, it usually continues to clean, so it does a fairly good job of cleaning the whole house multiple times even though it's lost. For this reason, the NoGo zones are worthless. If it doesn't know where it is on the map, it doesn't know where not to go.
I had high hopes for this. I am disappointed. A few days ago, it started it's regular run, moved about two feet from the charger, spun around in circles for awhile, and then stopped, saying that it did recognize it's surroundings. I can’t recommend it unless you don't mind babysitting.

UPDATE: I've changed my rating to 1 star. I'm so disgusted with this thing, I want to throw it in the trash. It doesn't clean the whole house multiple times it just cleans the same area that it's already done. There's a seting that says what to do if it gets lost. The default is continue cleaning. I changed it to cancel. Now it tries to return to the charger which it can never find. The maps it creates don't make any sense.
I started working with support again. So far nothing different than before. They just keep telling me the same things that I've tried before or something equally worhless. Today, they told me to remove the battery to reset the device. Surprise! It didn't work.

UPDATE 2: They had me send it to them for repair. When it came back, it worked okay. It didn't get lost. It completed its cleaning run. After about a month, it stopped notifying me that it finished. At the same time it stopped recording the cleaning runs, so I can't tell where it's been. This was important because it didn't always clean all of the areas it was assigned to do. A few days ago, I decided to delete it from the app and start over. Now it won't connect at all. I can still run it manually but I'm really annoyed. I contacted customer service three days ago and got a message saying that no one was available and that they would contact me. Crickets. I've had this worthless piece of junk for six months. It was functional for about one month.

About 2 years ago, I decided it was time to get a robot vacuum because I needed something that could vacuum as I worked on the other cleaning chores in my home, so I got a basic iRobot 600 series. My iRobot 600 cleaned my hardwood floors, but it couldn't handle cleaning over some of the thicker rugs that I have and would get stuck on them, which meant that I still had to use my upright vacuum. I finally decided it was time for an upgrade, and my first priority was to make sure that I bought a robot vacuum that would be able to vacuum all the rugs and the Neato has no problems with this. The D8 is much quieter than my iRobot as well. The other selling point for me with the Neato is that it can vacuum right up against the baseboards and since I have dogs and cats that is a definite plus for me.

The bin is easy to empty, and I can put the Neato D8 into either eco or tubo mode. The Neato app is okay; it could be better, but it does what it is designed to do. I have not purchased any accessories yet for the D8, however, I will be getting the pet/hair brush because my daughter and I both have long hair, so between the pets and our hair I want to see how well that brush works (the brush with the D8 works great, and since I plan on running the D8 everyday, I'd rather have a brush designed specifically for hair).

I wound up moving my iRobot to the first floor of my split level since it is a smaller area and is tiled, and I have the D8 upstairs for the main house cleaning. Never thought I would have one, let alone two, robot vacuums, yet this Neato D8 is fantastic for my needs.

I bought a Neat-O d7 Connected in 2018 and it was fantastic!! I had four large dogs and the D7 would pick up nearly all the hair every night! Best machine ever!!! Sadly, the support is diametrically opposite... worst service ever. I lost access to my Neat-O account and thought it was my password. I tried to reset it using the app but it didn't work. I contacted support via email (there is no number to call) and was sent a link to reset my password. The link was circular... I click the link and get a Web page that says to enter my email address. I click reset and I get another email with the same link. I tried creating a new account (different email address) but that doesn't work either. After three more attempts to contact support I get an email saying my request has been escalated... That was seven months ago and I still can't use my vacuum. I bought a D8 (it uses different software) and I was able to create an account. After letting it charge overnight I let it run and start mapping the place. I ran for about an hour and almost made it back to the charging station... but not quite. I helped it the rest of the way back to the docking station but it won't charge... So, I now have an old D7 that would run if it could connect to the Neat-O servers and a new D8 that will make an excellent door stop. I truly loved my D7 but I will never deal with Neat-O again. I just ordered an HONITURE Robot Vacuum and Mop with Auto Empty Station, 3500Pa for $390.00 (a third of what I paid for my D7) It should arrive in a few days and I'm anxious to see it it's as good as the D7 and hope the company is better than Neat-O...!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love-love-love my new Neato D8
Reviewed in Canada on September 8, 2023
Before this D8, I owned their first generation 1 machine (XV-11). The one that ran on the Linux o/s we could actually program ourselves. So with several generations apart, to this D8 though it has its quirks. Directly comparing it to the old XV-11 and I could see the improvements.

I have read a lot of peoples reviews of why the D8 is not to their liking and I disagree. To me, Neato is the forefront of robot vacuum cleaners. None other sounds like a jet engine revving its engine before takeoff when the robot first leaves its dock.

I used the APP and even followed it around the house from a safe distance to watch what it does. Using the APP I am able to block off areas I don't want it to go. Though I agree with Reddit users. The previous generation APP with the ability to draw polygons was a lot better than this newer updated version limited to boxes.

Even the orientation the robot creates our floorplan from is actually based on GPS directions as I realized though my building faces north/south we're on a slight angle so the floorplan map looks lopsided. I wish it didn't do that. But all in all, its a good buy... so much I bought a second one from the flyer the seller tucked into the lid. Bought the 2nd one as a gift. They too love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't connect to app
Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 2023
Initially it did connect to the app. So I could see the map where it went and turn it on virtually. One day it disconnect from the wifi and I haven't been able to get it reconnected for weeks. Customer service never got back to me. It still cleans when I manually press the play button, but I'm unsure if it's doing the systematic room learning and getting the route more and more efficiently or just rescanning anew everytime. It's predecessor the D3 and ita app is still superior.

1.0 out of 5 stars SUPPORT NÉCESSAIRE DE NEATO
Reviewed in Canada on November 30, 2023

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy

Was assured that this was a new unopened unit. It turned out to be used, covered in filth (inside and out) and missing parts. Was also assured that the company provided customer support when, in fact, Botvac is out of business and no longer provides support or even maintains the servers necessary for the app to work.
