Bad Design
While the tray itself is functional when the purchaser understands the cleaning required and the unit technically fits in place of the original cardboard tray, the lip insert purposed to replace the flap of the cardboard tray is highly flawed. There are three problems:1) The magnets of the original trap hood are not strong enough to hold the flap on.2) The flap is too large.3) The flap attaches at the wrong angle and is shaped at the wrong angleThe result of these flaw are:The rake scrapes the insert off or mis-aligns it. If the rake doesn't the cat does when stepping onto or bumping into it.As a solution I attached a strip of cardboard and covered it in cellophane strapping tape so it can be cleaned. I matched the size and shape of the original cardboard tray flap and taped it to the lid (see images.)The CatSafe ScoopFree system over-all is highly flawed and suffers from many design anomalies which can test the owner and the cat which I hoped to partially solve with the plastic tray. The company apparently spends a lot of time in design and no time in real world QA testing with different kinds of cats.This product should never have gone to market. The only positive thing in the system is the crystal litter.The rake is flawed.The trap opening is flawed.The result of the two above is feces will flip over the back of the rake and smash against the rear of the tray instead of the trap.The sensors are mounted too low allowing the covered feces or wave action of the rake to stop the machine.The trap does not hold the rated volume even when all the recommendations are followed.Scoop free it isn'tVery Costly to purchase AND maintain it is.
