Great iPhone cooler, but can fall off if you bump the cord

Great iPhone cooler, but can fall off if you bump the cord
1 Year since my purchase: Great cooler but there are some engineering limitations.Like a lot of other reviews, it is not wireless and requires being plugged into a power source to work. It can't charge my phone, which is fine, because it's designed as a cooler only. And what it does do well is cool my phone. It is exceptional at bringing down a hot 90 degree Fahrenheit phone to the 60s within minutes.Context:I heavily use my phone to play mobile games (especially open world games at 30-60 fps). This is usually very energetically demanding and requires a lot of battery, which in turn heats my phone scorching hot enough to warm a cup of cold coffee. Usually I'll be able to play for 1 to 2 (max) hours before hitting the 10% battery mark. When I had this cooler on, my phone temperature cooled down to the 60s, which chilled enough that battery percentage lowers slower, allowing me to play 3hrs or so.Pros:- Cools phone down your phone to the point where it feels cold (like fridge chilled water) in your hands!- Magsafe magnet makes its convenient to hold your phone, there aren't cooler clips that'll cover your playing screen like most clip on phone coolers- The cooler can be powered by any 5V power block/plug or any power supply with a USB port- Keeps my phone battery percentage from degrading when my game gets hot. I was able to play an hour of Genshin Impact at 30 fps with my battery depleted less than 10%. Quite amazing considered this game usual eats my battery up within an hour.- Gaming quality stays consistent throughout the play time. Usually my phone's image quality will start to pixelate when the internal temperature gets too hot, but so far the gameplay has been fluid. No delays in movement and image quality is clear.- The app is a great bonus, not only can you change the fan lighting colors, you can modify other internal specifications such as the fan speed and view the temperature- Noise is noticeable, but low and quieter than most fans.Cons:- The magnet sticks but its easy to flick off if you place it on a small phone. Especially if your hand accidentally pulls the charging cord, it'll likely pull the cooler off too. My magnet was prone to fall off almost every time I positioned it at a downward angle.- Auto shuts when you phone reaches a certain low temperature. I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact temp, but I noticed that it tends to shut down by itself when my phone reaches close to 59 degrees Fahrenheit. It will unlikely happen if your running it while playing a mobile game, but if you have your phone on idle mode with no games running (or app that requires a lot of pinging/inquiry/energy exchange) it will likely shut down at certain low internal temperature. This also includes leaving your phone off with the cooler still running. Once it shut down, you can always flick the ON/OFF switch to turn it back on, but there's always a likely chance it'll auto shut your phone once it reaches its programmed cooling point. However, for anything who's read this far -- This isn't a particularly bad flaw in my opinion, since its most likely a safeguard to prevent your phone from literally freezing.- This might be a limitation with my older phone, but I use to be able to charge my phone and run my cooler at the same time. With the lack of heat throttling my phone's charging speed, the colder temperature helped charge my phone battery faster... However a year later, my phone is a year older and the hardware has gone through some wear-and-tear... Now, whenever I charge my phone with a running cooler on, I'll get a "Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector" warning message from Apple to dislodge my battery charger. Definitely something to be wary of for anyone using this with older models (iPhone 12 and older). So now, I mainly charge my phone first and then use the fan, but not simultaneously.- Back magnet cover is delicate, I accidentally dented it a bit with my fingernail when I tried to pick it up. Don't be dumb like me.TDLR: To sum it up, it's a beautiful cooler (incredibly aesthetically pleasing) that keeps your phone cold. It prevents your phone from heating up, which provides a clear and consistent image quality when gaming. The caveats are that the magnet is delicate and easy to dislodge if you accidentally pull the cord and it will auto shut if your phone is too cold (a natural engineering mech to keep your phone from turning into icecube). Great for mobile gamers or anyone who likes to watch long YouTube videos on their phone for extended period of time, probably not necessary casual users. Overall, pleased with this purchase.

TL;DR - This is great if you're an avid mobile gamer and have realistic expectations of what it will do.

First things first. I want to address some things that reviewers have been saying. When buying a product, you need to have realistic expectations. I'm seeing people saying things like: "I wish it was battery powered" "I wish it would charge your phone" "I wish it would cover more of the phone" "I wish it was smaller". You can't buy a product and expect it to do certain things that not practical. That's like saying "I wish my screwdriver could also hammer in nails, drill holes, and also charge my phone." This product serves a specific purpose and there are going to be limitations due to engineering.

Let me cover some of these complaints:
-You can't have it be battery powered and/or also charge your phone at the same time. Why? Because having a battery will make this thing bigger (already a complaint by some, I will address this below) and having it also charge your phone through Magsafe introduces heat, which goes against the purpose of the product. Additionally powering a fan like this consumes a lot of power. I really doubt a tiny battery pack inside this product would be enough to keep it going at high speeds for a couple hours.
-Could they have designed this to cover more of the phone? Possibly, but you'd need more fans and a bigger heatsink. Additionally, there are so many phones on the market and they are all different sizes that it's really not practical for Razer to do this. You'd have to create a cooler for so many different phone models and this is a niche product. "One size fits all" is a much practical solution.
-Could it be smaller? No, the bigger the fan and heatsink, the more heat you will dissipate. If the fan was any smaller then this wouldn't work. It's plain simple physics. You can't cool more surface area than you are covering.

Now that I have that out of the way, on to my review.

Who is this product for? If you are an avid mobile gamer that plays demanding games, then this is for you. If you're not then you don't need this. I've tried a LOT of different coolers. I'm still on the search for the perfect one, but this one I have to say is pretty good.

    PROS:
-This DOES cool down your phone. The things that mainly get hot (besides GPU and CPU) on phones are the battery and the screen. Once heat is introduced, phones start doing things to limit the amount of heat. One of the most annoying is the screen being shut off. This definitely resolves that.
-I have the Magsafe version which is really convenient. I've tried other coolers with a clip, and they always get in the way.
-This item DOES NOT charge your phone, but you can still plug in your phone to charge while using it. If you don't like having two cables, you can always buy some other coolers that have a daisy chain from the cooler to your phone to charge.
-You can power the cooler with a power bank.
-You can use a Magsafe case with this, but you'll get best results with direct contact to the phone. However, if you do plan to use it with a case, use one that is solid and doesn't have a cutout for the Apple logo. If you use the latter then the cooler is useless since these type of case leaves a few millimeter gap between the heat sink and the phone, thus rendering it useless.
-This keeps your battery from getting hot as you game. Since heat is one of the things that kills your battery, and since Apple throttles your charging speed when the battery gets hot, I like to put the fan on when I charge my phone so it charges the battery faster. When I play, I'll charge my phone to a certain percentage, unplug it and keep the fan on to keep it cool.
-I like the fact that Razer has an app for this. You can customize the lighting, fan speed, and even see the temperature. This is something I don't think any other phone cooler has. I noticed there's a firmware version for the cooler... I'm hoping for more improvements in the future. If this is so, then this definitely is something that puts this cooler above others.

    CONS:
-Most of the cons I've already listed in my intro which really comes down to engineering limitations and decisions. There's going to be things you have to sacrifice in order to get a certain amount of performance. Weigh those things out and then decide if this is the product for you.
-This doesn't really cover the CPU on the iPhone which is unfortunate, but understandable. If you're using this for any other phone you might get better results depending on where the CPU is, especially with the clip on version. I bought this because of the convenience of Magsafe.
-Annoying, but by default the cooler shuts off when the temperature reaches a certain threshold. You have to flip the switch to off and then back on to reset it. You can turn this off in the app, but at first I thought the cooler was broken. This isn't very intuitive and in my opinion this feature shouldn't be default. Seems like this behavior can be solved with a simple firmware update; I did notice there is an "auto" setting for fan speed. Why not just have the fan go slower instead of the whole thing just shutting off? Or have it so it's "on" but the fan doesn't spin and then have it spin when it gets hot? I'll have to test this more.

Overall, this does what it says it does: it keeps the phone cool. It keeps the battery and screen from overheating, which drastically improves quality of life while playing, and also the overall health of your mobile device. If the whole phone gets hot, this heat transfers to the CPU and GPU, so even just cooling the parts of the phone that it does really does help. Having an app is great, I am hoping this will mean firmware updates with added features from Razer in the future. If your main source of gaming is on your mobile device and you spend a long time playing demanding games, then I highly recommend it. Otherwise it won't really be of much use to you.

Although there are other coolers available for cheaper, Razer’s performs better and feels more premium. When turned on, the backside immediately starts to drop in temperature, and reaches its lowest within a minute. The fans also provide extra airflow to the sides of the phone that aren’t being actively cooled, making the entire phone chilled. The MagSafe version has extremely strong magnets, and doesn’t slip off. Because it doesn’t use a clamp, you can adjust the cooler by simply twisting it however you need to. Aside from the temporary cooling, the decrease in temperature increases performance in all areas, and allows the processor to run harder. Long term, the decrease in heat will prolong the phones lifespan, as heat degrades batteries faster then would otherwise.

    -6 Month Update
Definitely one of the best things I have bought for mobile gaming. It absolutely CHILLS anything it touches, and stops your phone from feeling like a hot potato. Cable and actual device both work great and have had no problems. Would recommend the MagSafe version, as it has not broken or deformed like the clamp version tends to. Only minor changes have been a very slight scuffing to the silicone grip at the back, though I would expect far more for a product like this.

So, I’ve got this for a month now, and I am enjoying it really. I’ve played many processor intensive games that heat up the phone a lot. The heating causes the lag, and the game just becomes unplayable. So I looked into cooling options, and saw a bunch of fans like these. I was joking with my son that I need a liquid cooling case to play, and I’m surprised nobody’s made one yet.

For these cooling fans, there were some cheaper options around $25-$40 range, but their reviews were meh! Too noisy, not cooling enough, fan itself heating up, breaking up too soon… But Razor had good reviews. I’ve had a few Razor products in the past and I know I can trust them. It was almost twice the price compared to other ones, but I took the plunge.
Here’s my take on it over last month of using it:
    Pros:
    • I got magSafe version for my iPhone, it snaps on strong magnetically, and never feels that it’ll fall off
    • Super quiet, doesn’t bother in the game sounds at all
    • Really cools down the contact points
    • Solidly built for iPhone, have heard some people broke their brackets for use with Androids
    Cons:
    • Two cables going to phone now, a bit messier
    • With some games, you can play placing the phone down. This needs ventilation, so works hand-held only
    • Does heat up a little bit (on the rear side) after about an hour of usage, but that’s nothing compared to what the phone used to heat up

None of these cons are a deal-breaker. Overall I’m very happy with it so far.

Without this, having an iphone 12 pro max for playing Pubg Mobile/BGMI feels worthless. But add this to the phone, and it brings out the best of the performance. I'm using it for over a year now, and it's still working fine. only sometimes it slows down the cooling automatically, but if I restart, it works fine again.
I can play games and stream using the phone itself even while charging (imagine doing that without phone cooler) without any difficulty.

Would highly recommend this for anybody whose phone overheats, I use this for playing Pokémon when my phone overheats in the sun the screen goes dark with this, my screen never goes dark even when I’m fast charging and I’m out in the sun playing, yes you have to carry a battery bank around with you but that’s a small inconvenience so that you can keep playing the game for many hours in the direct sun. I bought a cheaper one before but I returned it because it just never got cold enough, this one is insanely cold it’ll go right through your screen to where you’re touching.
