I needed to manage my network/bandwidth allocation for 30 devices (I know.. I know) and I’m talking about a small home. So I have 1 Gbps connection, so bandwidth was not even an issue but having 30 active devices at any given time was too much for my existing router to handle (NetGear Nighthawk). Hence my search stared for an extender. After going through the reviews, I appeared to be a good choice. I’m very pleased with my decision.
It covers a very large area. I’ve set it up at least 30 feet away from my router and there is ZERO dead zone ion my house. I primarily use it to connect my PS4 Pro and boy what a difference it makes. Earlier my PS4 Pro was connecting to the network wirelessly. So sometimes the connection used to drop because of the distance. Now I have an option to make a wired connection which is a great experience for any gamer. many times people don’t realize the importance of latency. A wired connection makes a whole lot of difference and by giving that option, this extender is a life saver in many situations.
It’s extremely easy to set up with WPS. It took me about 10 minutes total to unpack and get it up and running, but I have some experience in setting up WiFi networks. But it’s a piece of cake for anyone who has no prior experience in setting up a WiFi network. You press WPS button on your router and then you press WPS on this extender and voila, you are done.
Dual band provides great coverage and stability. Check my pics for speed and latency.
Very good price and quality for a dual band WiFi extender. Highly recommended.
Setting this unit up was simple, there is a WPS single button setup but I used their interface instead (which can be reached at http://re.rockspace.local once you are connected to the repeater). The interface is well designed and easy to use. This was the more technical route and it was barely harder than pressing the single button.
Physically, the device is robust and should last a while. There are 3 LED lights on it that show the connection status.
The only drawbacks I saw were the interface during initial setup and the slow boot time. It takes longer than our old TP-link wifi extender to start extending the network, but that is a small drawback for the huge advantage of broadcasting the 5GHz network.
The other drawback is in the initial setup screen. It allows you to select a wifi network to extend, and lets you pick the SSID (network name). The default name is <your SSID>_ext, but you can change it for the network you selected. If you pick the 2.4GHz network, you can make the extended 2.4GHz SSID the same as your original network, but the extended 5GHz SSID will be named <your SSID>_ext. In this case, with no option to change it during initial setup. You can change the other extended SSID to whatever you want after setup and going through a few menus. Luckily, the configuration menus are simple and easy to figure out.
Pros:
-Feels robust and well constructed
-Easy to setup, has a decent user interface
-Can extend 2.4 and 5GHz networks at the same time
-Can use the same SSID as original network
-Excellent speed
-Not vulnerable to the tyranny of the Microwave
-Good value
Cons:
-Slightly slow boot time
-Initial interface only allows choosing the SSID for the 2.4GHz network or the 5GHz network, not both

The device works in network extender mode or in access point mode. In access point mode the LAN network cable connects between your router and this appliance, and this appliance then provides WiFi to your wireless devices. I would recommend it not be used for this purpose since it lacks many security features of a good access point. As a network extender, it connects to your home's router/wifi, and creates its own local WiFi service (wifi repeater function) to provide stronger signal to other devices. It should be located between your WiFi/Router and your blind spot to repeat the signal into the blind spots. In extender mode it also provides one LAN connection for a device that requires a LAN cable connection outside the reach of your house router (WiFi-LAN bridge function). In Extender mode it works great.
Issues: The config page has too few options (see pictures). The WiFi security methods aren't displayed and SSH to the linux subsystem is not provided. I have not tried using AP mode so i don't know if any security method options are shown in that mode. The device hostname and website title cannot be changed and current title is very generic, if i get two of them i may be able to override the device hostname in my DHCP reservations but i'll never know which one i have open in my browser tabs. There is insignificant security admin for the host, it has no default password out of the box but lets you set a admin access password, however there is no access control options, hence if somebody sits outside your home pirating software through your wifi, all you can do is reset your entire home network after the ISP sends you the threat letter or after you find out your IP was blacklisted. I'm using mine as a bridge for an office printer and as a repeater for two cameras, with hidden SSID, hence low risk of misuse since i don't have to give out the password.
