There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
There is a small design issue with the case that is easily fixed. I had to modify the case with a Dremel tool on arrival to accommodate standard USB-C plugs on the right front port. Be prepared to do the same on both sides if you use anything larger than a vanilla USB-C cord from Apple. The mod is easy and painless if you have the tools and take your time. I used a 1/8 straight burr on low speed to carefully extend the existing cut out to the marks I made with a fine point Sharpie. I used a small grinding stone to smooth the rough edges. Honestly, it took more time to gather tools than to make the changes. 10 minutes tops.
Please note that I had to remove the case (twice) to make the modifications. Disregard any reports of breaking your screen removing the case ***IF*** you take the time to view the documentation and videos on the UAG website. The only way you can break your screen is to NOT watch the videos and just blindly (and stupidly) try to "hulk it off". Removal requires finesse, not strength.
I have not and will not intentionally drop test it but will update as necessary if that ever happens. :)
As I'm sure some of you are, I was very tentative about this purchase considering the price point. Overall, I'm very happy and find this to be a premium case that provides premium protection worthy of the premium price. $80 to protect a $2k device like this is a small price to pay.
Enter the UAG case - I cringed at the price, but then I thought about it realistically - I just dropped mad loot on a new MBP, and although Apple Care is very handy, perhaps I can avoid using it by just spending a little more and getting a nice case. I've had it for a few months now and I am really very pleased that I decided to buy it. I don't particularly care for the overall 'look' of the case, but that's just my personal taste. I feel like I'm getting ready to do IT work for the military in some far off mountain range or something. But for the protection it has offered me, that's something I can definitely get over.
For reference, my MacBook Pro is the 13" 4th Generation (Mid-2016) - non Touch Bar w/ 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports and 1 headphone jack, 8gb RAM and 256 SSD. I'm not at all sure that this would fit the version with the Touch Bar, so double-checking the one you want to order is definitely suggested.
Not really a complaint, but if you have pets, you will get pet hair in the bottom due to the size of the vent holes. Maybe some mesh would help keep the holes free of pet hair while still allowing the unit to cool.

The quality of the plastic, is very hard, and very durable. You will not be able to scratch it by every day wear and tear use (office desk, to carry on bag, to pulling it in and out of a laptop sleeve). To attest to the strength of the plastic, you would have to take an Xacto knife or kitchen knife to mar into the surface in order to damage it.
The bottom of the case is vented (pointless on the new macbook pro line), and has 4 rubber feet to help with keeping the laptop planted on the desk. The case is a little too long on the sides where the type C connectors are found. By long, I mean you will not be able to plug in a type c to usb connector adaptor, because both the left side, and right side, the case leaves no room for the girth required for the size of the USB adaptor. (the Type C connector further away from the typist, on either side will fit the type c to usb adapter)
The top part of the case is where you will find the strategically placed rubber shock absorbing material. And at each corner of the top of the screen (one on left side and the other on the right side) the case has a latch like connection with the lower case. So when closed, the laptop screen will not lift up on it's own if dropped. It's kinda of what the old school laptops all have, a latch release, to open up the screen. Mac's don't, but with this case you will.
Finally, both ends of the case are held in place by a rubber band, where you would typically carry and hold your laptop. Smart.
The Good (IMHO)
Design
Scratch resistant
Manly
Unique
Well thought out
Grip handle band
Bad:
Heavier than it needs to be
Expensive
Voids two of the Type C outputs for use of USB adaptors
No rubber shock or protection with the lower part of the case
Hard to get off and swap out
