On Prime day, I went to the two extremes: I bought both the cheaper 692 and the I6+. I am keeping the I6+, even though it is 3 times as expensive. It is worth the difference, at least if you have a larger home.
Features I love:
1) It cleans fantastically
2) It cleans in rows instead of random pattern- not only more efficient, but looks nice on carpet.
3) Smart Mapping: It maps my house and lets me name the rooms. Then I can schedule when I want each room cleaned, instead of having to have the whole house cleaned every time. Working from home, this is especially convenient, because I can have the office cleaned in the morning before I start work, and the other areas at different times. I also set up schedules to clean the high traffic areas more often, and other rooms less. I feel like the guy on the old infomercials for the rotisserie cooker - "just set it and forget it!"
4) The automatic collection is much better than I expected. Not only do I not have to empty the bin on the vacuum after each run, the bag on the collector holds so much more than I expected. The first time I ran the I6 over the complete house, after going under the bed and dressers, it picked up so much hair. But when full, it simply returned to the base to empty it. I was curious, so I hand emptied the bag afterwards to see how much it had picked up. The suction power of the base to collect and compress the dirt/hair is really amazing. The bag was not even full, but when hand emptying the bag, I could not believe how much hair it fit in that bag. That much hair would have filled up my previous Hoover upright vacuum probably 3 times. So, while originally I didn't think I really needed it, now I am a believer in the "+" with the automatic emptying.
5) It doesn't get tangled in electric/charging cords or tassels on the edge of rugs on the hardwood floors. I thought I was going to have to worry about having to tell it not to clean under my office desk, under my nightstands, or anywhere else I had lots of electrical cords. But I didn't, and it didn't get hung, or even pull out any plugs. It doesn't get hung on my rugs either. I am truly impressed and relieved.
6) It does integrate with Alexa. I don't need this most of the time since I have my cleaning scheduled, but if for some reason, I need an "ad-hoc" run in a room, I can simply say "Alexa , have the Roomba I6 clean the Kitchen".
7) General technology - I am an engineer, and I am generally so impressed with how well this works technically. The mapping and navigation are so exact. When it returned to the base to recharge or empty, it went back exactly to the spot where it left off. (it is easy to tell on the carpet, when you can see the traditional vacuum marks in rows.) Now that I have it scheduled by rooms, it cleans exactly where it is supposed to - exactly. It is truly amazing.
The only (slight) negatives I have seen (or should I say heard):
1) The vacuum is fairly loud. I can't have it running in the room, or even right outside the room I am working in if on a call, or if you wanted it to run while you were sleeping. But this is no different from a regular vacuum, if your spouse was trying to vacuum while you were sleeping or on a call.
2) The dirt disposal from the vacuum to the base is really loud. It seriously sounds like a jet engine starting on a plane when you are seated right next to the engine. But again, it does such a great job of emptying and compressing the contents, I will take the noise with the power. But it would definitely wake you up!
3) Lastly, it isn't overly quick. My house has its master on the main, with all the other bedrooms upstairs. The first run through the entire house took over 5 hours, including the time it had to return to the base to empty and recharge. But again, it cleaned everywhere. It went around all table and chair legs (that it could fit through) to be sure it got the dirt/hair from all sides. It went under the bed and dressers. Plus, now that I have it scheduled by rooms on different days instead of the whole house at once, each day's run is much quicker.
Overall, I love this vacuum. Originally a skeptic, that finally gave it a shot, now I would highly recommend this vacuum. So much, I may think about the associated Braava mop. But that may take me a while to convince myself also...
No remote needed: After the app connected to my WiFi, I got to simply click on my phone to start cleaning everywhere and off “Alice” Roomba went. No more remote control! Yeah!
Stops: And if it does stop for any reason, you can push the main button and she talks to you to tell you what’s up! When she gets to a dirtier area, she backs up and forward, repeatedly, to thoroughly clean that area. Awesome!
Mapping: It took three complete runs and then the app notified me my map was ready. It did a pretty fine job of mapping our main floor’s three huge rooms and it’s many cubbies and it’s easy to edit the map if it’s not to your specifications. I also love that you can then very easily choose to clean just one room, or area that you have specified on your map. You can set areas not to vacuum... it’s real easy.
Sound: The sound as Alice cleans is a vacuum sound, but not nearly as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner - I didn’t have to turn the TV volume up to hear it as she vacuumed beside me. When she empties into the bin (oh is this delightful to NOT have to do by hand), it is a loud sound, but only for about 10-15 seconds. I LOVE this feature! Bags instead of having to do by hand! Love it!
Notifications: Of course you can set to receive or not. Just got notice she is finished with my kitchen!
Requires WiFi and a little room to park: If you have an internet connection and someplace to put this Roomba where it has 4 feet clear in front of it (we have a throw rug in that area, but that doesn’t bother it) and a couple feet clear on each side of it - don’t hesitate to buy this!
I also bought an Alexa, but haven’t set it up yet... more goodies to look forward to!
PS. I already had a “Hazel”, not a Roomba but another brand, and she is now permanently designated as our bathroom vacuum. I have to empty her bin (belly) by hand and clean her brushes, removing my hair as well as our dog and cat’s hair. The dust in there is truly repulsive to have to handle constantly - but I love the superb vacuuming job she also does! Now Hazel will need much less frequent hand cleanings and I have the best of both worlds!
And for those who wonder why anyone would spend the money to buy these vacuums: I am physically unable to sweep or vacuum without overwhelming pain and it takes me a long time with having to walk just a few steps only to have to sit down because of pain. Not as young as I used to be. And even for those not physically challenged, life is busy! Working parents, keeping up with kids or pets... MANY people have reasons that make this an affordable buy.

The Roomba has performed flawlessly over the past three weeks. It has found its base each and every time. It has picked up the hair from two dogs and a cat. I divided the daily runs (last two map images) into two as the battery life is one weak point and having it recharge to continue, we found to be annoying. In the morning it does the run where we tend not to be in and in the afternoon, the other portion of the house. It has been working out well with no interruptions to empty or recharge.
Our living area consists of all hard floors and has a lot of furniture and obstacles for the vacuums. Having said this, the layout was robot proofed for the prior robot vacuum cleaners so it did make it easier to implement the Roomba. After completely charging the robot, I did a single mapping run with all rooms well lit. That, surprisingly, worked out perfectly. Our vacuumable area out of 1700 square feet of technical floor space is around 1000 square feet.
I check and clean the bag, brushes (if necessary) and filter once a week.
Pros:
Excellent at cleaning and picking up fur (one dog is a husky that sheds a lot)
Self cleaning bin is very effective.
Good navigation in light
Good cleaning pattern
Much less maintenance than other robots without the self-emptying bin
Rotating brushes work very well with no tangles to date.
Better than my Lidar at actually cleaning.
Dirt sensing ability and repeats cleaning in those areas where it detects more dirt.
Good mapping.
Minor Cons:
Shorter battery life than other Lidar based robots.
Needs light to navigate effectively.
Lidar vacuums are more precise in their coverage and navigation.
Major cons:
None yet.
I have been impressed enough to consider having another one in the future for our lower level. I had carefully researched for weeks before purchasing this I6+ (which is the same as the I7+ and I8+ except for extras). While I prefer Lidar based robots normally, this one seemed to be the best self-emptying robot available. I purchased this while it was on sale before Christmas.

After reading countless reviews and searching the Internet, I figured I’d give it a try and I’m glad that I did. Here are a few of my initial thoughts that I hope will help you when deciding whether or not to buy this product.
PROS:
Despite some negativity about this product’s noise level, I found it to be quieter in comparison to my Bissell; unless it was emptying on the dirt disposal base, otherwise it wasn’t nearly as loud as your traditional vacuum.
In terms of suction power (also compared to my Bissell), the Roomba has just as good of a suction, if not better. The i6+ was able to pick up anything from dust, to dirt, to cat hair (we have three cats). I was especially impressed when it cleaned the baseboards and in between our railing banisters with its side brush.
Another feature I liked was the “charge and resume” software. From my experience, it takes about one and a half hours to get a full charge then the robot does roughly an hour and a half of work before needing some more power. I placed the i6+ on the upper level of our house, which measures about 800 feet, and it was able to get that area clean on one charge.
A final feature that I find convenient is the app. I like that I can schedule cleanings and see information about how long the robot cleaned, where, etc...
*** NOTE: I READ IN THE MANUAL THAT A MAP LAYOUT IS GENERATED AFTER ABOUT 3-5 USES.*** (This is accurate in my experience thus far)
(At first I didn’t notice this mapping feature in my app settings and became worried, but after further investigation I now understand why. The robot needs to learn the area/floor plan a few times before it can generate a map. After two “learning runs,” my Roomba was able to identify its surroundings and I can now name rooms, place clean zones, and set keep out zones within the app.
CONS:
There is no question in my mind that this was a great investment; however, the price was a bit hefty. If you’re able to purchase this on sale like I did, it’s worth every penny.
I would’ve also liked to see a bit more extras in the box, but overall I feel like this vacuum was still good value and I will get a lot of use out of it.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Look for this product when it’s on sale. It’s worth a pretty penny but it’s features are excellent and it gets the job done in a reasonable time. I purchased this because I have a very busy schedule. So I see this being ideal for those with busy lifestyles, and those who own pets.

After reading countless reviews and searching the Internet, I figured I’d give it a try and I’m glad that I did. Here are a few of my initial thoughts that I hope will help you when deciding whether or not to buy this product.

Pros:
1. This unit maps every inch of our floor perfectly and literally misses NOTHING. Our floors are always so clean you can mop right after and find not even a crumb. The AI is unreal! Watching it "think" is mesmerizing.
2. The fact it returns to charge and clean its bin (and works with Google Home voice commands) is so great.
Cons:
1. The disposable bags are 9$ each with tax, only available thru Roomba, and with our dog they fill up easily once a week. The unit only came with 1 bag too. This just feels wrong, like a total rip off. There is no reason they couldn't have designed a removable/reusable bin other than to rip you off for vacuum bags for the next 20 years.
2. While this unit is flawless on floors, it doesn't pick up our dogs long hair off the carpet. Basically it just clumps it up everywhere leaving balls on the rug. Ironically our old pet hair Roomba was far better at this. I think the difference is the new Roomba has rubber brushes which work flawlessly on floors, but about 20% as well on rugs. Hopefully they start making bristle brushes or something to fix this issue soon.
3. Even though the unit auto empties the bin, it will not get all the long pet hair off the brushes, side spinning brush or front spinner wheel. You'll need to quickly clean these areas every time so you don't prematurely wear out the Roomba. On the plus side this takes less than 30 seconds and is FAR better than cleaning past Roomba versions which often took me 5-10 mins to do.
Bottom line: if you have floors, this Roomba will clean your house better than you can imagine. Expect to replace a vacuum bag often and at excessive cost. If you have rugs with pet hair, this isn't a great purchase.
