Alexa+lightbulb changed my life!

Alexa+lightbulb changed my life!
Little backstory - I work full time from home and have a fully-functional office. After assembling and placing my desk and all my equipment where it needed to go, I realized that ALL of the plug ins on that side of the room are controlled by the lightswitch! That means if I want to shut off the light, my 3 computer monitors, ring light, speakers, alexa, TV, phone charger, webcam, microphone, AND MORE will not work. So each time I turn it off, it's a complete shutdown.I purchased this lightbulb as an addition to my Alexa and my life has changed. I taped my light switch in the ON position - and put the lightbulb in the fixture. NOW I can leave my work gear on - and control the lights separately! (See video) If you have this problem, Alexa and her lightbulbs will change your life!If this review helped you - please leave a thumbs-up!(I was not paid or incentivized in any way to give this review. I purchased this product with my own hard-earned money!)

With the onslaught of bluetooth speakers coming from both Google, Amazon, and other big named companies which are all competing for the smart home conversion, this can be overwhelming to choose. Like, really, what's best for your ears, your family and company?
Alexa, that's who. But, I'm a biased fan boy. So remember that.
For my smart home I chose Amazon as my primary converter. Fire stick, blink security, Echo Hub, the echo show for face calls, Kindle, Tablet, Echo Buds and works with smart bulbs. There isn't much of anything that the Echo Development teams haven't thought of. This device was the first step in making my house a smart home, though, even though I didn't think about it at first.

Portable speakers (with wifi), calculator, someone to tell your dad jokes, or just make fart noises, this device has it with Alexa. With customization to wake words (Computer, Alexa, Echo, etc) and pairing of multiple dots to an Echo hub in a multiroom can provide for some amazing surround sound. Seriously.

Alexa is kind of like the middle man of making your home smart. She acts as the computer, and communicator to you and your home. I use my Echo Dot every day, playing music all the time. For individual listening, I would recommend Echo Buds for that private concert.
I would recommend volume level 3 or 4 for a medium sound. For a party, you may need an two Echo Dots and a Hub for a large room. 1 and 2 settings are perfect for a meditating experience, or just soft background noise depending on what your listening too.

Amazon's music library has literally 20,000,000 songs to choose from; and ad free with 3d audio for those interested in Amazon Unlimited and HD. That's essential to ANYONE who loves listening to music all day, every day. Not to mention, if you don't wanna use Amazon HD, or Amazon in general, you are still able to set up Spotify as you're primary library/archive of music. That way, you don't have to start all over by liking, disliking and setting up new playlists for your road trips or work out sessions.

5/5 for awesome sound
5/5 voice recognition
5/5 easy installation
5/5 smart home device.
4th generation Echo Dot really blasts the hell out of all previous models, including sound output, style and variance in both Child and Adult, with variety in colors.

Con:
Cable could use a different color other than black or white, because this would allow "what cable goes to what." Otherwise, this is a really small complaint comparing to what you're really getting.

I have numerous (5) Alexa devices and one of the main issues I have with each one, from the Dots to the ball to the tower, they sound fantastic when you first get them but within 6 months the speakers all start to go downhill. I have difficulty understanding my earlier devices and although the ball dot was purchased after the others, it also has the same issues now. Over time it starts to sound like it is in a bucket and everything it says is 'mushy'. I have to use them connected to bluetooth speakers to understand the mumbled messages they give. As far as functionality with her understanding voices and the sheer volume of things Alexa can do to make your life easier, this device is great but plan on using other devices for music and audio book listening long term if you want crisp clear sound from your electronics.

This is our second Dot and set up was effortless. "She" walked us through the process which took less than five minutes. While her sound quality is better than the original it is still lacking and she doesn't hook up to my older Bluetooth speaker.
The Singled light bulb is great, again the set up was effortless. "Alexa" walked us through the process and we had a light that we could turn on or off hands free - plus it's in an older house that did not have a switch for the overhead light, so we are very happy. Will continue to use Singleds.

It's obvious that my phone and computer are listening to me anyway. They have been for years.
So accepting the fact that we live in a surveillance state, I decided to automate my tiny video studio lights and I found lots of other uses:
I'm a creative type and lose lots of inspirational ideas by not taking notes. The "Alexa, take a note" function alone is worth the price of admission. Further long format transcription is intriguing as a writer.
Verbally building a shopping list one item at a time as they occur to me, and "Alexa, print shopping list" just leaving for the store is a neat trick--it's on my phone if I forget.
Routines.
The "Good Morning" routine command gradually fades my bedside light on, plays Bolero by Ravel, gives me the weather and some daily factoids, and reminds me which supplements to take before I make coffee. I like to make my own coffee in a French press, but Alexa could do it in an automatic maker if I wanted.
"I'm home" turns on the string lights above for non-harsh overhead lighting and a lamp on the far side of the room, plays some soft Jazz Piano, reminds me of more supplements and suggests a Ketogenic recipe for dinner.
"Good Night" turns off all lights, the TV, plays 30 minutes of environmental sounds, and sets the alarm for 6am--this is important and really unaddressed problem, because I would leave the everything on all night when I fall asleep while watching TV. Alexa understands me when I'm sleepy and confused, and I can say for certain at this early point that it is correcting an unhealthy sleep pattern.
My Fire tablet is involved now.
I'm still fresh to this application, but I'm wondering what will happen if I get Cortana and Siri running in the same room with Alexa...
I have an old Windows Surface Pro 3 in the corner of the room used as a streaming platform, and I'm looking forward to voice commanding my web browsing entertainment center in the future.
In my mind, it's too late to be concerned about surveillance if you own a phone and use the internet.
