From the manufacturer

Module 1

What Makes Our Turkeys Different

Every turkey we sell in our Meat department — from fresh to frozen, organic to heirloom — must meet 100+ animal welfare standards and be raised with no antibiotics ever.

Module 2

What Types of Turkey Do We Offer?

Explore and find the perfect turkey from our Meat Department for your celebration.

  • Classic Turkeys: These tasty, tender turkeys are a great choice for value, quality and flavor.
  • Organic Turkeys: These birds must receive organic, non-GMO feed and have access to the outdoors.
  • Heritage turkeys: These unique, old-world birds are leaner with a smaller meat-to-bone ratio and can be very flavorful.
  • Heirloom Turkeys: A little bigger than heritage turkeys, this special variety has robust flavor and a lot of dark meat.
  • Brined Turkeys: These birds are brined for moist, flavorful meat. If you’re planning to fry your turkey, start with one of these birds.
  • Turkey Breasts: Feeding a smaller group? Our classic and organic turkey breasts are easy to brine and take less time to prepare than a whole turkey. We offer bone-in, organic bone-in and boneless options.

Turkey selection varies by location.

Module 3

Turkey Tips

How to store fresh turkeys: Our fresh turkeys are kept just below freezing to maintain a crust of ice on the surface, which easily melts once in your refrigerator. Keep your turkey as deep-chilled (35°F) as possible until ready to cook.

Oh no! I thought this turkey was fresh and it appears to be frozen. Don’t be alarmed if the surface of your fresh turkey seems icy. Fresh turkeys are kept just below freezing to maintain a crust of ice on the surface, which easily melts once stored in your refrigerator.

How to store turkey leftovers: Turkey leftovers are generally good for 3–4 days in the fridge or 2–6 months in the freezer.

How do you know when your turkey is cooked? We recommend placing an instant-read meat thermometer in the meatiest part of the leg — just make sure you don’t hit the bone, or you’ll get an artificially high reading. If the thermometer registers at least 165°F, your turkey is perfectly cooked.

Since I'll be alone this Thanksgiving, I'll be cooking this turkey today or tomorrow, so I can't comment on the flavor yet. BUT, I can tell you that the turkey arrived cold and fresh, and the packaging says, "Never frozen, ever", which I believe. It also came at a great price: $1.99/lb., 11.70 lbs.; can't beat that for a fresh turkey!Because this first experience for me with Whole Foods delivery was, in every way, a fantastic experience, I highly recommend to every Prime member to check this out! Free 2 hour delivery! Prices for many items are generally much higher, but if you search carefully, there are exceptional deals to be found like the turkeys! I'm hooked!UPDATE: The turkey was good, but didn't come with cooking instructions so I went with the standard 15 minutes/lbs. rule at 325°. That meant that this 11.7 lbs turkey SHOULD have taken about 3 hours. But at 2 hours 10 minutes, my 6 year old oven cooked this turkey completely (see picture). No idea why this happened but it's never happened to me before.

It was a great turkey!! Would definitely order again from Whole Foods. I put last years in a turkey bag. But on this one I used Jacque Pepin method of cooking a turkey upside down for 2 hours then flipped it over to brown the top. This thing was so juicy.

This fresh chicken from Whole Foods tastes so much better when seasoned and cooked.
Compare this to Walmart chicken and you’ll always chose…. Whole Foods.

This review is for the turkey before cooking. Will revise later.

Turkey received was just under 10 lbs. Neck was included, but giblets/organs were not, unfortunately.

While this turkey isn't brined, it is injected with broth solution.

I haven't cooked the turkey yet, but I'm pleased with quality as delivered. These birds are not injected with brine solution as are many typical supermarket turkeys. It is fresh, though there are some ice crystals at the bottom of the bag. The neck and giblets were included inside the partially trussed turkey. I'm thinking of ordering another one.

Ours weighed 14#, so we gave some to a neighbor. This turkey was moist and delicious. I made a thick stock with skin and bones. YUM!
