It gives me headachs and nose bleeds but I cant stop playing it. Im not sending it back because its a great game even though it was different than what the box said it was
I grew up in the 80's and was expecting some type of "knockoff" type of game. It plays just like I remember it. I also liked Joust back in them days and it appears to be the same. The other two games I didn't remember right away, for myself they were filler games until "my quarter" came up on defender, Joust or Missile Command. Assembly looks complicated when you open the box, but even getting interrupted several times, I followed the instructions and had it up and playing in about an hour. This brought back a lot of memories and I plan to buy more from this company.
I purchased this at Walmart after several weeks of deliberation and noticing that it was the last one in stock. Since this unit contained four of my favorite classic games, it seems to be an easy decision. When I got it home I found out that Rampage and Joust are exactly like I remember from the arcade. Gauntlet was a little disappointing. Even though there are three controls, only two people can play it at a time. Defender is nearly unplayable since the button controls are split across the control sets furthest apart. I also ran into an issue with the center control stick for "Lizzie" in Rampage that required a replacement of the control deck. I'm still waiting for the replacement part, hopefully it won't cause more issues.
The game did work properly up was down and the buttons were all over the place. I returned the game Dec 18 2019 it was received on Dec. 24 2019 and still haven't gotten my refund its Jan 07 2020. It was to be a Christmas gift so I had to rush out to a box store and replace it. I'm very aggravated about the whole deal. WHERE IS MY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!
Instructions are easy to follow and well labeled. So I put the thing together, plug it in and nothing happens. I flip the on/off switch a couple of times, double check all the connections are tight and nothing happens again. I hear a buzzing from the speakers so I know there is power. I end up flipping the on switch and holding it for a second or two and the unit comes to life. Maybe there is a loose wire or something. Play is good, just like the old school games. Pressing the one player button multiple times give you more health on Gauntlet. Havent tried multiple payer yet, looks kinda tight with more than one person. Buy the stand/riser, this game is small, first time I played I was kneeling. The game unit is light weight and easy to move around once put together. I would recommend hooking the electronics together first, plug it in and see if the game works.
I bought this machine from Arcade1up, directly, hoping it would arrive with a properly balanced monitor contrast. NOPE! The monitor sucks! It looks gray, and washed out, on all games, and at all angles. It's like someone went in, and just cranked the brightness all the way to off-scale high! YUCKO! Now, I have to buy the brightness adjustment module, on ebay. Just lovely, Arcade1up! LOVELY! Interestingly, the 2018 units had perfectly balanced displays. Hmm.
Right! Well. As for the rest of the machine, the assembly went well, no problems, other than those blasted C screws, which hold the monitor in place. LOL The Rampage graphics look cool. The machine I got was made in 2019, so I'm hoping they at least fixed the Gauntlet crash bug, at level 30, and the elf sounds, which were missing on the 2018 units.
Oh, and there's a scratch on my monitor, too. So, I guess the scratch protector film did it's job. It properly protected the scratch! LOL
You will need to get a riser for this machine.
Arcade1up offered to give me a refund. I told them I didn't want a refund, because ALL the 2019 units are like this, and that I'll have to clean up after them, with the brightness module, and that they need to do a recall on this, and two other machines, which now have this problem, and to not sweep the problem under the rug, with refunds. LOL
Oh, it's still bloody loud, even with the volume switch in the middle position (low). Had to put clear packing tape over the speaker holes. Just be sure to leave two holes open, to let base, and mid range frequencies through.
Oh, there's a half second delay between action, and audio, which wouldn't have happened, had Arcade1up not used that cheap All winner CPU! :/ At least the delay isn't as long as on Centipede, and Atari 12-in-1. LOL.
Defender is tough to play, but not impossible. The button mapping could've been better done.
I gifted this to myself and love it. Put it together in the morning without much difficulty at all. Definitely brings back memories and some nostalgia!
