5.0 out of 5 starsGreat speaker for the price!
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2024
I am a teacher and I use this daily for multiple hours to play music for my students. I have had it connected to my phone and to my laptop pretty easily as it is very user friendly. I like the built in controls on the top of the speaker because it makes it easy to quickly pause or resume music. I still typically prefer to adjust the volume with my phone's controls however because that feels more precise. My one complaint is that the built in controls only work with my phone and not my laptop, but that isn't necessarily the speaker's fault. The audio quality isn't ground breaking, but it does sound very nice for the price.

1.0 out of 5 starsUpdate: will not turn on, less than 2 months. Recommend Tribit Maxsound Plus!
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2019
Update 4-23-19:
Forget about the OontZ Angle 3 Ultras. Well do not forget about them. When paired they are very good speakers and I prefer listening to stereo, and they are what I use when I need lower level volume but still want good stereo sound. Buy a pair for under $70, they are worth it.
However...
The Tribit Maxsound Plus BLOWS AWAY the Anker. The Tribit sounds more like a Bose Soundlink Mini II than any other speaker of its size, or even a bit larger.
The Anker DID sound as if it lost some of its low end punch that mad it seem like such a great bargain. Maybe listening to the Tribit ruined my ears and set the bar too high for the Anker.
Amazon Customer Service hooked me up and gave me a return authorization though the Anker speaker was out of its return window! I paid shipping but that is more than fair in my book.

Updated 4-5-19: Replaced "Great speaker, second only to the OontZ Angle 3." as second submitted review title .
It definitely lost some of its richness and bass during the short time it worked.

This has moved from high on the list to a distant "nth". It will not turn on after being gently used indoors for half the time I owned it. I switched to the OontZ Angle 3 Ultra (bought a pair). They play stereo together and singly, they are definitely better than the Anker.

I had hoped Anker returned to the days of old when their QC was top notch. No such luck. They went big time and then hired BA/MA types who will screw customers with shoddy/lesser product for the dollar +bonuses.

Hell, I have quit buying their power banks. Out of the 12 I originally purchased, only 4 are working reliably. They were rotated frequently so NONE of them have high cycle counts. I have owned them from 4 to 2 years.

The return window has passed but I will contact Anker and see if their Customer Service is still as fantastic as it used to be. Whoever was in charge of CS, they better have gotten a big promotion, big bonuses and stock option. No one could touch Anker's Customer Service back in the day.

Original Headline: Fantastic speaker. Anker scores again = our gain! Buy before price goes up.
Update, 3-26-19 on the Anker Soundcore 2.
Knocked off one star. Reason: tested this against the OontZ Angle 3 (OA3). I do not know if speakers have a break in period or what, but the OA3s sound "better" after using both for over a month now. If I could send the Anker back, I would. The return date passed on 3-5-19. This is a VERY good speaker, but it is not the best under $50 speaker, the OA3 takes that title. Plus the OA3 can be paired to another OA3 and play dual stereo or stereo mode!
The bass on the Anker seems to be getting weaker, OR, I my ears have gotten use to the bass from the OA3. I still HIGHLY recommend the Anker, but only if the OA3 is not available.
I tested both with:
1. No EQ
2. Low and high to maximum volume
3. With EQ using the jetAudio music player, 75% volume for both speakers, which is plenty loud for indoor listening.
4. Used bass settings of 50% and the OA3 seems less distorted at higher volumes!
5. At 85% and louder volume, the OA3 sounds louder and loses little of its full sound. The Anker gets washed out at the higher volumes.

AND, the OA3 seemed to produce fuller sounding music. Not as good on the highs if not using EQ. The Anker will sound clearer in the highs without EQ, but not drastically.

I used JBL for 3 years before getting sick and tired of replacing my Clips, Flips, and Charges due to broken charging ports, and dying batteries.

BOTTOM LINE: The Ankers are very good speakers and worth $39. However, for better volume and value buy, the OA3 should be looked at first. When paired with a second OA3 and playing in stereo, they rock!
CAVEAT: the OA3 have terrible latency time. They are unsuitable for use when playing as the sound source for any video you are watching. I have other higher end BT speakers I use for watching movies on my TV.

Anker Soundcore II review
For those people who are new to BT speakers or have been using a generic BT speaker, the SC2 speakers are going to be amazingly good to them. The newer-be will be correct on how good they are, but this will be interpreted by inexperienced people looking for a good description of the speaker. They will think that these are the end all be all for BT speakers.
While the SC2 is the BEST under $50 bar none, it will not outperform the JBL Charge on sound (comes very close IMO). No one should expect that. It is completely unrealistic. (Listening to Haircut 100 - Love Plus One, smooth sound.) The charge is a +$100 speaker, not fair.
(Mary Jane Girls - My House, now playing). This little speaker is in the Bose Soundlink Mini level. (Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait, is now playing)
(REM - Crush with Eyeliner, now playing) Pair this with a quality EQ (jetAudio) and forget it! This thing moves up a whole new level! I use Bonjovii DSP plug in and wow does it pump up this little speakers range. (REM - I Took Your Name, now playing). This thing can be turned up to max and will not distort UNLESS you have applied too much bass in your EQ. Even then not bad on distortion.
I bought the SC2 to replace my JBL BT speakers which have crappy batteries! JBL sound is GREAT but IMO they SABOTAGE their speakers by using shoddy charging ports and using batteries that wear out in less than a year. Love my JBL Clips but I need to keep them plugged in to use them (Bad Fish - Sublime, now playing). I liked my JBL Flip, weak on bass but very loud for the size. The shape of the Flip and lack of bass and crappy battery have made me abandon JBLs from this point forward. (A Message to You Rudy - The Specials, now playing).

There are several reviews that pretty much detail MOST everything you need to know about this speaker. I will list a few things I have not seen mentioned.

1. You can go to previous track. Pause = 1 quick press and release on PLAY button; 2 quick press and releases on PLAY button = go to next track; 3 quick press and releases on PLAY button = previous track.
2. If you want to use this for playing the sound from movie on your tablet or phone, there is a slight but noticeable lag. Not quite like a dubbed in English movie. You will ignore it after a while.
3. I used a splitter to use the SC2 with another BT speaker, the LG PK3. Not a good combo. The PK3 had zero lag, the SC2 was behind by almost half a second. This caused an echo effect.
4. The SC2 has very good bass output. The bass is felt as well as heard. Not chest thumping bass, but enough to enjoy your favorite tunes that rely on bass for their punch. I am listening to Tom Sawyer by Rush, and thank God for the lows/bass.
5. Speaker placement can help this speaker deliver even more. Believe it or not, suspending this in the air works the best. The PK3 has a strap hole which I attached a nylon string to and use this to hang it off a hook in midair!
6. The stereo sound definitely sounds like there are two speakers. It is difficult to tell where the speaker is if you are not looking right at it. I had 2 Aomais STEREO speakers playing earlier. I came back into the room and thought how good the Aomais sounded...oops. I had previously switched to the single SC2!

I am now listening to Never Let Me Down Again (aggro mix). Though the thump of the drums is no where near my HK Onyx Studio 2 speakers, it does sound like a thump where all of my other BT speakers of this size lose the thump and it sounds as if some is beating a tin can wit the lid and a piece of cloth on. As the drums sound, something on my desk, not the speaker, is vibrating. And I am playing this song at 70%.
You cannot go wrong with this speaker unless you have ridiculously high expectations.

This is the best budget speaker out. The sound is clear the bass is good and it's small enough to take anywhere. The battery lasts forever. It works in the rain and snow. Had it out camping at 15 degrees F and worked flawlessly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little speaker.
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2024

I purchased this because I have a lot of their product and figured I'd give the speaker a shot. I was not disappointed.
This is a speaker that I use primarily next to my bed as I can't sleep at night unless I have something going in the background whether it be a podcast, music, etc. The song quality is actually very good given the small size of the speaker. Sometimes I use it outside and I never have to worry about it getting wet and damaging the speaker as it's been great in this crappy New England weather.
A durability standpoint it's pretty strong has a rubberized coating all over and seems like it can take a lot more abuse than I've given it. I like the fact that the speaker communicates with my phone via Bluetooth so I can see how much battery is left in the device. The buttons are not actual buttons they're kind of a membrane style button under the rubber which is perfect because it seems like they will last quite a long time.
I've had the speaker for well over 6 months now and figured I'd give it a review after I've used it for a bit and it's been excellent. Great size, very good sound for the size of the speaker and it's very portable. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, Slight Limitations
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I was in the market for a decent portable speaker for use when I'm at work in the office, out kayaking, things like that. This seemed like the perfect fit, and overall I'm really pleased with this product.

Pros:
//Connectivity - Very easy to pair, and very easy to unpair directly from the speaker and switch to a different device. One click on the Bluetooth button unpairs the speaker, making it ready to pair with something else. I also really appreciate the fact that they included the standard 3.5mm TRS jack. Really awesome.

//TWS - I think it's awesome that they offer true stereo if you want to get a second speaker. I may not be buying another one at the moment, but knowing of this feature has put it on my radar.

//Build quality - It really feels like a solid product that will hold its value as long as it is taken care of.

All these factors make this speaker more than decent, especially at its price point. I'm really satisfied with it, and I think Anker did a great job.

Cons:
//Battery level indication - I primarily use a Galaxy S9. I own audio products which send information to your device which tells you percentage of remaining battery life. SoundCore 2 does not do this for my S9; however, it does offer a battery meter icon for an iPhone[6].

//Volume control - (These particular issues may not be from the speaker, but an app I use, so I'm not calling out Anker here)
- I think people typically like products such as these to "sync" volume settings; meaning, one click on the speaker translates to one click on your device. Once again, this works on my iPhone, but not with my S9. I use the Poweramp app for music, which lets you customize all sorts of settings like this, and I'm sure this particular glitch is some sort of compatibility issue from Poweramp.
- The volume automatically jacks up pretty high upon connection, which is relatively loud. Not that I mean to complain, it's not like turning the volume back down is hard, it's just easy to point out annoying things like this.
- Pressing the volume down button on the speaker makes the app "freak out" and turns it up instead. Again, while annoying, easy workaround. Just use volume buttons on the phone.

//Audio Quality - One thing I didn't like was that this speaker was advertised as offering "enhanced sound". This is always a big red flag for me. Mixing/mastering engineers already do enough when finalizing any track so that it's "enhanced". So when companies try to make their own product sound unique and "enhanced", it typically ends up sounding pretty awful, and appealing only to those who enjoy listening to a combination of the most obnoxious and uninspired Dubstep and Pop. Now, I will say you can tell that the components used here are certainly capable of producing quality sound. And it's certainly not a terrible-sounding speaker, it really does sound pretty good. But overall, it sounds a bit hollow. For the most part, the high-end frequencies are just too much, with not enough from the mid-range. And this is sharply magnified as you increase the distance between you and the speaker. I know for a product like this it would be unrealistic to include any sort of consumer-level EQ adjustment capabilities, but it would be absolutely amazing if Anker offered a firmware version which had a completely flat EQ setting.
>On that note, that's why I rated sound quality three stars. The equipment is there and I appreciate that, but unfortunately, it's been "enhanced".

For what it's worth, I'd be more than willing to pay extra for a flattened EQ setting.

Well, there's my two cents. I hope this helps address certain questions others may have. An Anker, if you read this, please, offer that flat-EQ firmware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud, good sound reproduction, advanced call answering features
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2017
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
When Anker’s SoundCore 2 went on sale, I immediately made the purchase so that I could compare an Anker Bluetooth speaker with those from other manufacturers. Anker is a well-known brand producing quality products. My expectations were high.

Packaging

The SoundCore 2 came in a white and light blue box with black and light blue text on the outside. Inside the box, wrapped in velvety plastic, was the speaker secured by cardboard on all but the top parts. With the speaker were the user guide, “Happy/Not Happy” card and an Anker-branded charging cable inside its own smaller box. Packaging was professional.

Pairing and Controls

Pairing the SoundCore 2 with an iPhone 7 Plus was a breeze. Shortly after turning the speaker on, “SoundCore 2” appeared on my phone. A couple of seconds after I tapped the name, paring was successful, confirmed by tone.

The controls are located at the top of the speaker. They include the power, - (minus), play, + (plus) and Bluetooth buttons. The + and – buttons are used for adjusting volume. The play button is a multi-function button that can be used to pause/resume playback, accept/reject/end calls as well as putting the current call on hold while accepting another call. Additionally, the play button can also be used to switch a call between speaker and mobile device.

On one of the sides are the auxiliary and micro USB charging ports.

Performance

When it comes to speakers, the most important factor for me is sound quality reproduction. Anker’s SoundCore 2 didn’t disappoint. Vocals by a basso vocalist were smooth. Middle frequencies produced by a flute and a clarinet were clear and pleasant. High frequencies from an acoustic guitar were crisp and very satisfying.

The sound of a bass drum was somewhere in between a “punch” and a “boom.” Applying an equalizer app got the bass drum closer to a boom but not quite there. This is an area where the speaker could use an improvement when it comes to sound quality reproduction.

The SoundCore 2 is loud. At maximum volume, it easily filled my 20-feet x 20-feet garage with sound. Bluetooth range was amazing. Without any obstruction in between the speaker and my phone, sound didn’t cutoff until both were about 100 feet apart, producing the best Bluetooth range of all speakers I’ve tested to date.

Phone calls were clear. The speaker has the ability to put an existing call on hold while answering another incoming call. I have yet to see this feature on other Bluetooth speakers. There is one feature that is common with most speakers I’ve tested but not present with the SoundCore 2 and that is the ability to call the last number dialed on the phone the speaker is paired with. This would normally be a double press of the play button but this action is assigned to skip to the next track. I found this to be surprising coming from an Anker product.

In addition to call the last number dialed, I was also surprised by the inability to go to the previous track. Unless I missed this in the user guide, this functionality is not present.

As already mentioned, the speaker has the ability to enable voice control software such as Siri on iOS devices. This is the second speaker I have tested to include this nice feature.

Pros

• Durable and rugged construction
• Good sound reproduction
• Loud
• Comprehensive user guide in 9 languages
• Amazing Bluetooth range
• Advanced phone call answering features
• Ability to enable voice activated software (Siri with iOS)
• Anker-branded charging cable

Cons

• Can’t go to previous track
• Can’t call the last number dialed
• No auxiliary cable

Conclusion

Despite the minor quirks mentioned in my review, the pros far outweigh the cons making the SoundCore 2 an excellent choice for a Bluetooth speaker in the $46 (price at the time of review) range. Similar speakers I’ve tested are the Meidong 2110 and the Meidong QQChocolate Medium. While these two speakers are more accurate in terms of sound quality reproduction, they are not as loud as the SoundCore 2. If volume is more important, you can’t go wrong with the SoundCore 2. However, if sound quality reproduction is more important, take a look at the Meidong speakers. I had to switch between all three speakers while writing this review to make sure that my conclusions are as accurate as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review after years of use! Long but honest.
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2024
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I've been using this product for a couple of years. I really like Anker's products in general. But this one is a must-have product. Here is the detailed list:

Pros:

Unbelievable Sound: With 12W of pure audio power and dual neodymium drivers, the SoundCore 2 delivers exceptional sound quality with enhanced bass. The advanced digital signal processor ensures zero distortion at any volume level, providing a rich and immersive listening experience.

Intense Bass: Thanks to Anker's exclusive BassUp technology and patented spiral bass port, the SoundCore 2 produces deep, thumping bass that enhances the impact of your music, making every beat hit harder and more satisfying.

Outdoor-Proof: Boasting IPX7 protection, this speaker is built to withstand the elements, including rain, dust, snow, and spills. Whether you're at home, in the yard, or on the go, you can enjoy incredible sound quality wherever you are without worrying about damage from environmental factors.

24H Non-Stop Music: Equipped with Anker's renowned power management technology and a 5,200mAh Li-ion battery, the SoundCore 2 offers up to 24 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. This ensures that you can enjoy your favorite tunes all day long without interruption.

Grab, Go, Listen: The SoundCore 2 features a classic design that has been refined and lightened for effortless portability. With simple and intuitive controls located at the top of the speaker, you can easily adjust volume, play/pause music, and activate Bluetooth pairing with minimal effort.

Cons:

Can't Go to Previous Track: One limitation of the SoundCore 2 is the inability to go to the previous track directly from the speaker. This feature, commonly found in other Bluetooth speakers, is not present in this model, which may inconvenience some users who prefer seamless track navigation.

Can't Call the Last Number Dialed: Similarly, the SoundCore 2 lacks the ability to call the last number dialed directly from the speaker, a feature that is typically available in many Bluetooth speakers. This omission may be disappointing for users who rely on this functionality for hands-free calling.

No Auxiliary Cable: Unlike some other Bluetooth speakers, the SoundCore 2 does not come with an auxiliary cable included in the package. While Bluetooth connectivity is convenient for wireless audio streaming, having the option for wired connection would have been beneficial for certain situations or devices.

In conclusion, despite these minor limitations, the Anker SoundCore 2 Bluetooth Speaker stands out as an excellent choice in its price range. Its durable construction, impressive sound quality, long battery life, and outdoor-proof design make it a versatile and reliable companion for music lovers on the go. While it may not offer all the bells and whistles of higher-end models, its combination of performance and affordability makes it a solid option for anyone in search of a portable and powerful audio solution.

I needed a set of small bluetooth speakers for my Sailboats cabin and tried a few other options prior to the Anker. These were by far my favorite in terms of sound, battery life, and build quality., Bluetooth connectivity is spot on / fast and no issues during use. One of the better sub $80 upgrades on my boat!

Excellent compact bluetooth speaker. Clear sound all the way to max volume. with noticable base. No, the base won't rattle your teeth. But remember big base needs lots of surface area and this IS a very compact speaker. Super easy to pair to my phone. Great battery life. Using this speaker 8-12 hours a day, only need to charge every three or four days. This is the third one I have purchased. First one lasted close to 4 years of everyday use. On my second one now. Bought this third one for a spare . Got it for a great price so figured I'd stash this one for later before they are gone for good.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this Little Speaker
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2024

I bought this speaker to use while hanging out outdoors on my back patio and in my backyard. I wanted something that was waterproof and that had decent, good sound. Well, this little powerhouse DEFINITELY checks those boxes! While I haven’t immersed the speaker completely in water (like in a pool), it did survive, and continue to perform flawlessly, while directly under a constant stream (or gush) of water from my garden hose (when I was testing it’s water readiness right after I got it), and it’s survived more downpours of rain than I can count. And the sound on it is great! The sound is clear and [can be] loud (if you want it to be), even when playing bass heavy songs. The battery life on it is also great! I use/play it A LOT over the spring, summer, and fall seasons, including for long periods of time each time I use it, and I’ve only had to charge it a few times. I’ve never had problems connecting the speaker via Bluetooth to my cell phone [iPhone], nor either of my laptops [Windows & a Mac]. And while the Bluetooth range on this speaker states 66 ft., I’ve been able to successfully connect the speaker [via Bluetooth] to my iPhone at a range of 80 ft. with no issues at all whatsoever. After having this speaker for a few months and absolutely loving it, and wanting a similar speaker to keep in my garage for when I am doing stuff out in my garage and in my front yard, I didn’t even think twice about getting another Anker branded speaker. I decided to “live life on the edge (LOL),” and so I decided to get a different model of Anker speaker, a “fancier” speaker, with more features, etc., and so of course this Anker speaker was a little more expensive than this Soundcore 2 speaker, and whoa! Boy, how I regret that choice of mine [getting another model of Anker Bluetooth speaker, an Anker speaker OTHER THAN this one, other than this Soundcore 2]! That [other] Anker portable Bluetooth speaker, the Flare 2 model, is HORRIBLE! It’s absolute junk!

Even though that model of speaker [Anker Flare 2] has more features than this speaker [Anker Soundcore], and thus costs more than this [more than this Soundcore], it can’t even perform the most basic of functions (doesn’t stay connected to Bluetooth source, no battery life, etc.), let alone perform the most basic of speaker functions (ie. has a decent quality sound) well! I even had the Flare 2 speaker replaced by Anker under it’s manufacturer’s warranty, and I still had the exact same issues (minus the Bluetooth connectivity issue) with the replacement speaker that I received as I did with the original Anker Flare 2 speaker that I purchased!

So if you’re deciding between this Anker speaker, the Soundcore, and another similar Anker speaker (say the Anker Flare 2 speaker), I think that you’d be pleasantly surprised and pleased with the Anker Soundcore speaker, just like I was, and that you won’t regret your choice.

ITERATOR
5.0 out of 5 stars POWER PORT
Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2024
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
Researched to see if any changes were made to unit. The Yushy review with pictures show the power port is mini USB, same as my old one. BABOOM, the new one I bought has a Type C port. I use this as a sound bar for PC with a 4K dumb TV as a monitor. Fortunately, I had an extra magnetic charging cable with multiple plugins, one of which was a Type C. This ended up as a pro. My first Soundcore was hooked to a Smart Charger 24/7/365 and turned off at the Soundcore when not in use. Might be why it failed and needed replacing. With magnetic cable, I can attach when I turn the Soundcore on and detach when I turn it off. Should be easier on the rechargeable battery in the Soundcore. At a bare minimum, you may need a longer Type C charging cable than the one that comes with purchase, it's 24", tip to tip.
