I do NOT RECOMMEND if you have AT&T as your carrier!!

I do NOT RECOMMEND if you have AT&T as your carrier!!
Update August 5, 2020:I purchased the phone in December of 2019 and just a few months afterward, I began to have difficulty with it and things continue to get worse. Voicemail does not notify you that you have messages so you have to get a third-party voicemail app to alleviate that issue. You have to call the voicemail instead of pressing a voicemail icon like on the iPhone. The ability for anyone to hear me is a neverending struggle as I am told that I sound like I placed the phone in a bucket and other times it sounds to them as if the phone is close to me but sounds like it is under water! My screen goes black during phone calls so I either have to press the power button to see the screen to select the keypad for dialing options (like during automated calls to businesses where you have to press the number for the option stated on their automated menu) and you cannot change the screen "time-out" in settings so you have to constantly tap the screen after three or four seconds to keep the screen active..seconds, not even 5 or 10 seconds, which would be better than a couple! The previous complaints were just last week but NOW my screen goes totally black once I answer a call and I have to ask the other person to hang up because the screen won't change from black back to the phone function screen at all now. I would like to throw the phone into my garbage disposal and turn it on...just because I think that would bring such a triumphant feeling and it's very unfortunate that I can not, lol! With all of the troubles that I have had, in such a short amount of time, I felt it necessary to share my experience with other people who may benefit from avoiding this phone and DEFINITELY after my husband received a notice from AT&T that this phone does not have the capabilities or an operating system compatible with their network and soon will be (useless) unable to be used with their "new network" upgrade beginning in 2021!Please, if you have AT&T, AVOID THIS PHONE! It would seem that maybe it is mostly AT&T but there are many other cellphone specific things that are annoying and irritating that it would be too long to list them all!Previous Update: February 3rd, 2020 1:16pmI am having great difficulties with people being able to hear me during phone calls. Either it is broken or I sound like I am in a tunnel but I am not sure if this is due to the phone itself or my AT&T service. I will update once I contact the manufacturer for guidance as that will be part of this review as well...I apologize for the lack of information but I wanted to log it here in hopes it would be helpful in the future once it is all completed but I don't feel comfortable removing the five stars just yet as it could just be AT&T and not the phone.

Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020
My first LG was a V20 which I then moved to V30 to V35 and finally I moved to this G8, I had a V50 for a short time but found it a bit on the too heavy and big side. Although the battery life was great. My mistake with the V50 was getting an unlocked phone only to find it was an unlocked SPRINT phone and returned it due to the constant Sprint messages to continue with activation. I am on Google Fi a year now. Fi is OK but has it's faults, no real tech support because it's all either chat or phone calls and when you have a hardware issue they pass you around and run you through so many trouble shooting scenarios. Just not good for the technology unfriendly. Fi App works great on all these LG phones and the Amazon Alexa version is no exception works flawless.

Note I did NOT have any of the update issues and the phone updated without issue to the latest version of Android 10 Software version G820QM21b The phone I got was a "Like NEW" sell and it was in like new condition and came in the original box with charger, headphones and cable (all still packaged and new). Phone had no visible wear. booted up and activation was flawless.

This model by the way is the LM-G820QM it has NO sign of any carrier branding or software installed on it.

I ordered (2) cases a Ghostek Covert smoked case and a Poetic Hybrid Guardian series case, fell in love with the slimmer, well protected Ghostek, The Poetic was too bulky and alien looking plus the bright blue accent just did not fit. It's a great case with built in (or removable screen saver) screen but the slim smooth minimalist design of the Ghostek won be over.

The screen is a step up over the V35 I moved up from. Super bright, clean and crisp.
Plus the 128gg of memory is a big major advancement.

I don't care or use the other hyped options you find reviews downgrading this phone such as the Screen speaker which I found the sound to be clean, without distortion and great for listening to. By the way this phone also has a speaker (3 holes bottom right side of USB C port) so sound is not an issue.

I don't use the face recognition or the hand gesture features either so they are not problem even if they're not perfected yet.

The cameras are similar to me to my V35 and not much if any of an upgrade as much as the 3500ma battery which the V35 had 3000ma battery.

I'm 100% happy with this LG phone and now sold on the G series, great sound, great camera, Fantastic price for a phone that is up to 2020 standards. Consumer reports by the way rated this phone a 75 on a scale of 91 being the top phone an Apple 11 Pro Max and well above the Huawei Mate10 Pro, on paar with the V50 a bit above the V40 and 35. My only other phone I would consider in the same price range is the Samsung S10e which placed 85.

This phone new when I purchased it was four hundred but also available for three hundred sixty at "like new". So not bad and not much difference in wear.

You can still register this phone with LG and extend the warranty to 2 years via LG

    update 7/13/2020:

Got another recent update. This goes against the naysayers. I think it's been four or five now. Amazing for an LG device and I'll just nomenclate with LOL, but good for us.

It's been a great phone so far. Two days of battery and maybe more... wireless charging is great.

I just wanted to outline a few differences and comments, coming from an unlocked S7 to this phone...

Tethering - no freebies with this one, it does a carrier tethering check

LED - nope, regular version manual states led, but I did find a way to light up the edges of the screen with two "tron-like" snakes. Under notifications - brief notifications. It doesn't seem to keep flashing until you acknowledge it, but it works.

Google Now/Discover panel - Option removed. I installed Nova, the allowed side loading, ad the Google Discover integration is an option. Just google something like "nova, google discover installation", there's sites with instructions.

Alexa - you don't have to turn anything on

Updates - **sigh LG** last system update 4/1/2019, wonder if it will ever get an update, cough cough, this is what LG is good at, not updating.

Facial recognition - Fast and pretty accurate in decent lighting. You will have to learn about where to hold the phone for best results.

Hand recognition - Pretty good stuff here once you learn where you have to hold your hand. Hand unlock works great.

Fingerprint sensor - Holy Frogs, this is one of the fastest I've ever used!

Audio - Seems better than my old phone, just more depth and seems cleaner. Call quality is very good, although I typically use a wired headset. Speakerphone is good, too!

Alarm - if you change from the regular LG tone (forgot which one), it make one noise and instantly went into snooze mode. TEST THE ALARM if you use it to wake up, etc.

The google button - removed from this version. Most reviewers online hate the button and accidentally bump it. Just turn on google voice and talk to your phone.

Headphone Jack - Need I say more? This is one feature that is important to me. You can dongle and BT all day with other phones, these are negatives to me. Having a real headphone jack adds value here.

Overall, this is an incredible value at the "sale price" that shows up every now and then. Screen is the best I've ever seen, and there are a lot of features in this phone. Battery life is very good, and it doesn't seem bulky or too heavy in this day and age.

The phone itself, feels great in the hands and is overall a wonderful device. The sound from the display is good, but not as clear as a regular speaker when turned up to higher volume, setting the phone down on a flat surface does help to boost the volume a little. The camera does lag slightly which isn't a big deal for me personally, as I am a steady handed person. The camera quality isn't as good as other high end phones, but it is not bad by any means. The volume and quality of the auxiliary is actually better than I expected coming from a previous Galaxy S/N series owner. The hand gestures are actually of use for me, as I have dirty hands from work and can use the feature to answer calls or decline them, and control my music without getting the screen dirty. Some people have had trouble controlling it with hand gestures, but all you have to do is curl your fingers a little and it will work fine at the right distance of course, it takes a little practice. Call quality, is pretty good, but not top notch (this may vary with carrier and coverage). The display, is very very good. I enjoy the phone a lot, and the haptic feedback is really good on this device, better than any phone I have ever used. The battery life, is absolutely better than my old phone (Galaxy Note 8). I had to keep my Samsung phone on charge or battery saver to keep it from dying halfway through the day or a little after half, but this phone barely gets to 70 with moderate to heavy use. With light to moderate use, I can still have upwards of 80 percent battery percentage left. If you are looking for a device for good battery, great display, amazing audio quality for music, and an overall ease of use, then I highly suggest this device!
