These Four Discoveries Became The Guidelines For Designing The Leap Chair:

The spine doesn’t move as a single unit. When you recline, your upper spine moves backward and your lower spine arches forward.
Each individual’s spinal motion is unique. Even for people of identical size, age, and gender, each spine moves differently.

Had the chair for a week. Easy to set adjustments while watching online videos. Was unsure until adjusted the seat pan, then, Ta-Da! Works well. Chair comes completely assembled (don't know why there's a choice to add an "assembly" option sometimes??) and the packaging protects well against shipping damage and is all cardboard (recyclable) and plastic sheet cover. Best to have two people to lift out of the box.

Expensive, yes, but well designed, comfortable, and should hold up for years and years. Only complaint is with the totally adjustable arms. Unlike all of the other settings, the arms don't lock in place after adjusting, so if you grab the arm rest to get up or move the chair, the arm rest moves. Not a big deal, but a minor annoyance.

The reviews for this chair contain reviews for both new and refurb chairs. Make sure you're selecting which you want. Reviews on refurb chairs have been mixed.

The price for the chair I bought changed almost daily. Pick the price point you're willing to pay and jump when it hits that point. The Honey browser extension (and others) is helpful to track price history. I'm always price sensitive, but willing to pay for a quality product, which this is. I bought one for my wife too and she's equally happy with it!

Disclosure: I purchased this chair 2 months ago. I've been using it every weekday from about 9am to about 6pm. I get up for lunch and the occasional errand. However, I spend at least 6-7 full hours on the chair each day.

After spending a year on a cheap desk chair (~$100) and dealing with pain in my legs and back I finally had enough and started researching the best chairs. I came across Steelcase and eventually settled on the Leap chair as my next chair. I thought about buying it from Steelcase directly, however, their online shop isn't too user friendly and I would have had to wait at least 3 weeks for it to arrive. With Amazon, it was going to arrive between 5-7 days since they had it in their warehouse.

The Leap chair arrived fully assembled (the packaging was actually quite impressive!). This chair has several settings so that you can customize it to your height and size and make it feel just right. The one I got came with the carpet casters, however, they work great on my hard floor. They glide smoothly and comfortably. FYI - I weigh about 170lbs.

I have a feeling this is a chair I'll have for at least a few more years. I highly recommend it. After this chair I will never go back to cheaper desk chairs.

NEW REVIEW: After a couple years, I cannot believe how well I rated it the first time. I have never got used to the seat not being adjustable. I want to change the angle so I stay in the seat. I slide forward slowly every time I sit down until my butt almost falls off. You simply cannot sit up straight! I want to order another but not without testing it first. This is a well built chair but a terrible design. What a waste! OLD REVIEW: This chair is way better than the cheap ones and you can feel it. Good back support, good solid feel, good cushion support, and the controls work well and seem well built. I got the wheels for hardwood floors, and recommend them. Quiet and smooth. The only negative, and it's slight, is that the arm supports don't lock in, so you'll be moving them a lot. But compared to the other chairs I've had, you can sit in this for hours and not the slightest discomfort.

This chair should be one large sociology experiment, published and used in colleges to teach people on how easy mass psychosis can occur, and how to avoid being sucked in.
I was sucked in. But then my OCD kicked in, and I realized how bad this chair is.
The seat is really small. If you kick it out, there is an even larger gap in the back.
The fabric felt like you were sitting in a movie theater seat. There was folding where they didnt evenly wrap the fabric under the chair.
There's very little cushion. I'm not looking for soft and fluffy here, Im looking for supportive.
The back is just this flimsy plastic with some fabric over probably 50 cents of foam. This is supposed to be 'by design'. Mmmkay. Give me something that I can lean to the side a bit over a flimsy back that I have to sit like a robot on all day for it to hold me.

The back lumbar support is the only plus. But, even at the highest setting it didnt offer alot of 'push' there. Which I found the highest setting to be modest and nice for my liking. Unlike the Gesture which is also a Steelcase chair, the lower back support is not adjustable - and the chair is more expensive. SMH.

So I thought, maybe it is just me. Let's have my friends and family test out the chair.

Dont believe me - but look at the pictures people post. A plastic base on a $1200 chair?! Wrinkled material that is haphazardly wrapped under the seat?? LOOK at the seat, it looks no different than some cheap office store chair. Sure maybe they use a bit better of a fabric or foam, but I didnt notice a difference.
I really dont trust anyone that says they like this chair anymore. To me, they are easily fooled and I dont run with fools.
