Design worse than Razer 2012. Not recommended if you have big hands and use claw/finger grip.

Design worse than Razer 2012. Not recommended if you have big hands and use claw/finger grip.
So I purchased the new Mamba Chroma during the CES appreciation event and gave it a few months of use before passing judgement on it. Just as a little background info, I've been using Razer mice for years including all the Mamba releases, Naga and others. I was pretty excited when this new iteration was released and jumped on the CES appreciation event and was one of the lucky few that managed to snag one at 50% off.Once the mouse arrived, it was in the premium Razer packaging as expected and at first glance, it looked very similar to the old Mamba 2012 in ergonomics. However, that impression quickly dissipated once I held the mouse and realized just how vastly different it was. For reference, I'm 6'2" and have fairly large hands, roughly 20 cm from the tip of my middle finger to the end of my palm and about 13 cm from the top of my thumb to the bottom ulnar end of my wrist. I tend to play FPS games and hold the mouse in a claw grip. The new Mamba Chroma is almost the same length as the old 2012 but there are a few things that made it very uncomfortable to use long term:Weight: Because of the battery being built in, the mouse weighs more now and that added weight was something I never fully adjusted to.Curvature: The Chroma has a bigger curve/hump than the previous 2012 and it tends to make it harder to claw grip than before.Side grip: By far my biggest complaint about this mouse. The area where you grip with your thumb is very uncomfortable because it doesn't have that curved edge anymore like the Mamba 2012. The material used also feels very slippery and I find I have to exert a lot more force during games to hold the mouse. For reference, here are some images to illustrate what I mean:As you can see above, the Chroma's edge is at an almost flat 90 degrees and because of that, it is a lot more difficult to grip vs the 2012 that has that slight curvature which holds the thumb in place, especially when lifting the mouse.Because of these aforementioned reasons, I've pretty much given up on the Chroma and have decided to sell it to a friend of mine for the same price I bought it from Razer and have gone back to using the Mamba 2012 full time. The next mouse I'm seriously considering right now is Final Mouse Tournament Edition as it seems to have styling very similar to the Mamba 2012 with the only down side being it's wired. If Razer is reading this, I hope you considering releasing a new version of the Mamba using the classic design with an updated sensor and removable battery as I would buy it instantly. I enjoyed the lights of the Chroma and the adjustable tension for the buttons but the shape, grip materials and weight turned me off from it completely.Thanks.

This mouse is very, very, nice. I have been using it's predecessor for the past four years or so, ever since it came out.

First: What I like about this mouse:
    1. Comfort! This mouse fits my hand perfectly, and has most of the buttons in the right place for ease of use on a regular basis. The side buttons are in the perfect position for me to use for push-to-talk or other functions on my computer. The side grips are comfortable, and the perfect texture to keep my hand from slipping.
    2. The buttons on this mouse came adjusted how I like them, with some but not a lot of force needed to activate the switches. The buttons do evidently have an adjustable click force, but I have not had a good reason to adjust them.
    3. Quiet scroll wheel. A lot of the competitor's mice have ridiculously loud scroll wheels. I use this mouse in a quiet room, and though it is not silent, it is not super clicky. It doesn't sound like breaking plastic when you turn the mouse wheel, but it does have a nice feel and sound to it. I think the biggest thing is the lower frequency of the noise.
    4. This mouse feels well made. The parts don't shift around on you, and the whole mouse is solid. A lot of the other mice I have tried feel cheap and not well made.
    5. The side buttons register as button 4 and 5 in most software, allowing you to assign function to them without using some crazy keyboard shortcut like some other mice require.
    6. Lighting - There are some pretty cool lighting effects that you can set up on this thing. There are three different zones, which can have three different setups, and the setups can be layered as well.

What I don't like as much:
    1. The battery is no longer removeable. Not really a big deal, but a small annoyance.
    2. The cable is not the same as the original mamba. They moved to micro usb instead of sticking with mini. Kind of annoying that the old cable won't work in a pinch.
    3. The latch is gone! There used to be a latch that kept the cable in the old mamba. In the new one, it uses only friction. This is one of the two places where I don't like the new design as much.
    4. The sensitivity buttons are now below the scroll wheel. I preferred them off to the side, but I guess it isn't that big of a deal.
    5. Color choices are different between the software and the mouse lights. Setting Orange in the software gets more of a washed out yellow/white. Kind of disappointing for the cost of the mouse.

All in all, this is an awesome mouse, and I would recommend it to anyone who has even thought about a wireless gaming mouse. The charging dock is easy to use, looks pretty decent, and you can of course customize the lights on it as well. If you liked the original Mamba, you will probably like the Chroma as well.
Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2018
The first time I ordered this product only the buttons worked and the mouse cursor didn't move. After countless hours on the internet looking for solutions nothing worked. Returned the Mamba and got another one. The new one worked perfect! Battery life is good, no issues getting synapse to recognize the mouse, and the wireless mode of the mouse has no input lag and if it does I can't notice it and I game quite often.

Please understand before you buy, that the charging dock needs to be plugged in to your computer/laptop in order for your rig to connect to the mouse. Sadly, there is no way around this but other than that this mouse is beautiful and awesome, works great and I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a great looking mouse with customization lights and who wants the luxury of having a wired and wireless mouse in an instant.

    p.s
Understand Razor is a big name brand company who probably makes hundreds of thousands of products and probably even more than that. It is to no surprise that some products are faulty, it happens, so if it happens to you replace it for another one. If you are afraid of spending the money you probably shouldn't shop with Razor, but lemme tell you this is one kickass mouse!
Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2016
First of all, I use this mouse for CAD, not for gaming which is it's intended purpose. So the things I need in a mouse may be a little different from the target customer base, but if you want quality high end computer peripherals it almost has to be made for gaming. This mouse offers a lot of advanced features that prove very useful when working with CAD. The programmable buttons are very nice and are able to be set up to do much more than other mice that I have used. Not only can you set a button to a specific keyboard key, but you can program a macro to enter advanced CAD commands which I use very often. The ability to adjust the sensitivity very precisely (down to the exact dpi) is a nice feature to really fine tune how you want the mouse to move. The mouse feels very comfortable in the hand as well. The ability to adjust the sensitivity at the push of a button is not something that I find useful for what I do, but the buttons are easily reprogrammed to more useful functions. The lighting aspect is not one that I was interested in when I bought the mouse, but I must say, it's actually pretty cool. It makes it easy to tell which settings profile the mouse has switched to when using multiple applications at once. The Razer Synapse application is very easy to use and set up. I only use the mouse for one computer, so having to have software installed in order to customize the mouse is not something that I mind.

The reason I gave this mouse four stars instead of five is because the mouse is because of the link program feature and the cost. It is a very nice mouse with a lot of great features, but I just don't quite see why it costs as much as it does. the link program feature links a particular application to a specific settings profile for the mouse. This is a very useful feature, but it is very slow at switching from profile to profile. A lot of times when I need to switch to another application for a moment, I have already switched back before the profile even changes. I have use other mice, such as the Logitech M510, that coordinated button function with application with no latency and much less cost. For the price of this mouse I would expect all of the functions to work flawlessly.

    Edit: 12-30-16

After using this mouse for a few months I have to edit my previous review. This mouse is may be a great gaming mouse, I have no idea as I've never used it for that, but it is absolutely terrible for general use or CAD. I thought the extra buttons would be useful when working with CAD, and that part is mostly true, being able to set macros is for the buttons is nice. The problem is the software that controls the mouse. It is the worst. I do not understand why a $150 mouse does not have the ability to assign custom functions for the buttons depending on the application without a lengthy process to switch profiles. This process makes you wait several seconds before the profile is switched and if you are trying to switch to a different program from the task bar, it closes the pop up. This will happen several times while it is switching. If you need to go back and forth between applications (as I frequently need to do) this is a huge headache. I've had to change to manually switching profiles with the two buttons on top of the mouse, which means I've ended up with two less buttons that I could have had. Often times I will try to use mouse button functions only to realize that I am in the wrong profile and then have to switch. This may seem like a minor problem until it happens constantly throughout the day, every day. As I said before, Logitech manages to implement this feature flawlessly in even their cheap mice, but this mouse for three or four times the cost cannot manage this simple task. I do not understand this. I also do not understand why my old Logitech mouse could hold a charge for several months off of AA batteries and this mouse cannot stay charged for the entirety of a day. Often times the mouse just stops working and will not come back until you unplug the base and plug it back in.

This mouse has many gimmicks to attract people but does not have any substance to its use. If you want a mouse that lights up with pretty colors I guess it will do that fine. If you want to make minuscule adjustments to the click pressure (for what ever reason) it will do that very well. I will also say that it does look very nice. But I expect a little more out of such a pricey mouse.

If you are considering this mouse for anything other than gaming, I would very much reconsider. It may be a fine gaming mouse, and if it is, that is it's one and only use. The price they are asking for this mouse is absolutely absurd. There is nothing about this mouse that warrants such a price tag. I become more and more insulted with each day of use. I have purchased a different mouse just before updating this review because I just cannot take using this mouse any longer.

Only had this mouse for a month and use the scroll wheel is not working. Terrible build quality. It only looks nice with the light effects but don't be fooled it won't last. over 150$ for a mouse that doesn't even last a month. I'm even using a razer blackwidow chroma and firefly mouse pad but in the future I will be staying away from razer products. Battery does not last and needs very frequent recharging.

Fantastic packaging and presentation, plugged in and running immediately, no issues with connection or responsiveness, awesome customization options and capability, mega-comfortable and works perfectly out of the box. My initial 'first day' testing is that the chroma is a super cool feature, but will kill battery quicker (obviously). The battery life seems to extend a lot with the lights off so I am rolling with that for regular work days. If I want to show it off, I can when I desire to. I purchased it for office use because I wanted a wireless mouse that was close to the Death Adder for comfort and feel. The extra button customization with the scroll wheel is also underrated in my opinion (use it to play previous or next song). It fits the bill perfectly for me for what I need so far. Certainly a more expensive option, but worth it in my opinion if you have that budget.
